The differences in starting equipment could perhaps be explained as the character buying and selling items prior to the adventure, as many players do.
Edit: I'd also like to add that pregen characters should not automatically be added to your list of characters, especially if they are included in your limited number. If deleted, you wouldn't get it back.
Rather, add them as an option to build. First thing it asks you is if you want to create a Standard character, or if you want to Quick Build or Randomize.
Either add pregens there as an option, or maybe within Quick Build's next step. Whichever method, it will only show you pregen characters from sources you have active on your account.
chunderbunny, I think you have dex and cha switched on the folk hero fighter.
Also, thanks for your advice on where to go on levels 3 & 4 on both of the fighters. I wasn't sure how to advise my player who asked.
Whoops! Thanks for pointing that out, I must have just copy/pasted the previous one without updating the values. It has been corrected in the original post now.
The levelling up advice will give you the same stats as on the pre-gen char sheet and will work with the basic rules (so you don't need to buy any further content on DDB). It produces good, but not amazing character builds. If you buy the PHB then you will have more options; the Battle Master subclass would be a particularly good fit for the folk hero fighter at level 3 for example. In this case I would pick the precision attack, trip attack and menacing attack maneuvres.
Today's announcement made it sound like there was a way to copy the pregens from somewhere?
Not quite yet. The sharable links to these can be posted now, but initially, you can only copy your own characters. Ability to copy other people's should follow soon.

That way you can create (and delete) as needed.
Agreed, it would be great to have a bunch of "sample characters" to start with, not sure if WotC would let them just crib their giant set of starter characters, but it could be nice for new players to be able to just choose "generic Druid" as a starting point to have things filled in, particularly if it's just someone trying to get set up for a game in the next half hour.
There's a quick build feature in the character builder that will create a generic character "using recommended starting options" (presumably those in the PHB). You just select race and class.
I'm pretty sure sharing isn't available yet, but it's one of the next things that should happen. I think they said they're currently testing that feature for security purposes.
EDIT: I guess you can share as view only now but can't share for copying yet... I think.
I'm attempting my first DM with this campaign. Are we talking about the generic pre gen characters like the PDF on Wizards of the Coast? There arentbspecific characters are there? I don't see them in the LMOP info. I don't mind building them but I want to make sure I'm using the right characters

There are characters coming with the physical version of LMOP that have backgrounds that specifically refer to places/people within LMOP, but they are not necessary to play the adventure.
I'm totally curious if it will ever be a thing so DM/ GM Ever be able to add the pre made characters into a campaign as we can have characters unclaimed for a campaign. Im highly aware that I can build my own to have yet it would be nice to just have access to them to use in the D&D Beyond system making it that much easier to run campaigns for new players and not printing them out as that is the one thing I love is the paperless way if i so choose. More Curious if this is still in the works.?
This is great, thanks for putting that effort in! Would it be possible to create the characters as homebrew options people could select from? I'm not clear on how homebrew works yet.

Unfortunately, no. The Homebrew system is for creating and sharing Sub-Classes, Monsters, Spells or Magic Items, not complete characters. It's also against the rules to homebrew and publicly share other creators IP - in this case, characters created and published by Wizards.
The way they are shared here - spelling out how to build them so that you can recreate them yourself for personal use, is the only way to do so. Aside, I suppose, from getting someone else to do it for you, then adding them to a campaign you are in and transferring them to you as mentioned in post #35 up above. That is possible now.
... * With the skills, technically, you could get Stealth from the background and select Sleight of Hand for class, but since DDB has you selecting your Expertise before your background, I just swapped them so that you don't have to go back and forth. ...
I do feel the way expertise requires you going back in the character builder counter-intuitive.
... *The pregen wizard starts with a shortsword, but this is not an option by default so I put the quarterstaff in instead which is technically slightly better. ...
Shortsword is finesse, so is the better weapon for the Elven wizard character - although it's not going to end well if a L1 wizard frequently gets into melee! It should be fairly straightforward to change the equipment post-build.

I see. Does anyone know if someone has created any pregens and has shared the links?

Correct. For now we can share anything but only copy our own characters.

In any case, you can find them here

Hi, pretty new to the community. Preparing to play LMoP in the near future with some newbies aswell.
I have tried to make the pregens as close to the real deal as possible. Are you able to share the characters like this?
Noble: https://ddb.ac/characters/28331032/SaxI7T
Cleric: https://ddb.ac/characters/28331358/JKBIiU
Rouge: https://ddb.ac/characters/28346962/tHX7fc
Wizard: https://ddb.ac/characters/28349540/ql1w0f
Folk Hero: https://ddb.ac/characters/28381746/BAc698
I do feel the way expertise requires you going back in the character builder counter-intuitive.

Only the Wizard and Noble worked out of these now. But they are great! Wish I had the others but this is a great start.
Thanks @SpillerFandago
