Whatever Adam, James, Lauren and Todd do, I wish them all the best of luck.
My guess is that the four of them will be working together again in the future.
It's also very interesting to see staff changes like this at the same time that long promised projects like shared dice rolling and other enhancements have rolled out. It makes me think that new investors have joined the DDB team.
Wow that was a lot of reading as a fairly new reader of the forums here (around 3 months). My family and friends just started up a campaign 3 months ago and we came to the best place we could find for content that was easy to access and forums that had a good atmosphere and great info. We found it here at DnD Beyond. Have I watched more than 2 or 3 videos with James, Lauren, Todd, or Adam? Not really, to be honest. I enjoy their content, there just aren't enough hours in a day.
As a relatively new member to this site and community, I can tell you what I have watched just now. People who have join dates from 4 years ago spreading negativity and rumors with no evidence and literally sucking the positivity out of this site. People are finding a great community here with or without the "4 faces of DnD Beyond". Sure I love the content I have watched with them... but some people need to stop poisoning the water and atmosphere around here without evidence that the apocalypse is coming. It is as if you all became so selfish with the community and those leaving that you won't allow it to continue if it changes.
Maybe... just maybe... some could spend a bit of that negative energy helping out in other threads more and fill whatever void you see being left by an exodus of talented people. Maybe write an article or two? If you can't, then what have you even learned from watching and reading what those individuals have posted. What great benefit did they bestow if it is not visible through you? If you truly care so much about this situation, then challenge yourself to become a content creator.
A community isn't a cult with 4 leaders... and those of you willing to spread rumors at the doorstep do a disservice by not continuing the positive atmosphere Lauren and her team have been working so hard to build and encourage. I am so glad yesterday was not my first day or I might not have shown back up tomorrow. If you are truly here for the community, then please think outside of yourself and your ideals enough to evaluate if what you are saying would make someone stay or leave the community. I have to believe everyone is intelligent enough and caring enough here to realize the community itself is what makes this place great.
Now... I am going to go back to preparing for tonight's session with some awesome people and try and forget the negativity and division I saw here in this thread. For those of you who are positivity spreaders or new members just now getting here... focus on the things this community does well for you and how encouraging people are for the most part. And if one day it comes to an end, it was just a web site and the people who make it comfy and cozy are still a twitch, twitter, whatever away.
D&D beyond is more about the tools the app gives you to play than the actual content which they don't even own. its a service not a product. I am a legendary bundle owner. there is nothing on the site i haven't purchased, but i know all of it could go up in smoke the moment the service decides to shut down. my decision to purchase content on here was based on my confidence in D&D 5th edition being a relative commercial success. I do not see this site ever shutting down as long as D&D 5e remains successful among fans and may even outlive 5th edition. this seeming exodus of people from D&D beyond doesn't worry me. the people that left, despite them being well recognized faces, were not the ones making the site what it is. those are the tech people behind the scenes who are writing the tools. when we suddenly see the nameless tech people jumping ship, THEN I'll worry. that all being said, If they manage to make the offline mobile app more feature rich, its possible that even after the site is gone our ability to make characters and manage their sheets will still be doable. I can easily see a small fanbase of dedicated individuals taking that app and modding it with new content going forward and it being functional offline makes it uniquely suited for this.
FYI: People with far more experience in the industry found that article laughably inaccurate and nothing but unfounded speculation and clickbaiting. I'd take it with some massive grains of salt. I don't know anyone with any experience in the industry who took that article seriously, for what it's worth.
Fair.
I wouldn't mind seeing it happen, though. I'd much prefer to see the D&D property owned by an entity that has strong roots in, or a genuine interest in, role-playing games.
You don't think WotC has a genuine interest in D&D? WotC pretty much rescued D&D from the Pit of Despair better known as TSR.
I didn't level any criticism at WotC. I said I wouldn't mind seeing Hasbro sell-off WotC to another entity whose focus was more role-playing at its core.
This sort of thing happened with DnD Online back in the day remember? I'm hoping that it doesn't happen that way. Essentially we won't know anything until its a little too late. I certainly don't plan on investment more $$ into DDB for a bit.

Yeah. Cuz not investing if there’s a chance they are going under is going to help stop them from going under.
people leave. That’s it. Y’all are serious making this to be bigger than it needs to be. Stop and listen to the people speaking from the company. poor storm in here sad to be loosing their friends and trying to tell y’all it’s fine but you choose to take that as some ulterior meaning. Seriously this is how things get worse speculation.
And everyone’s asking for DDB to deal with and help ease your minds but none of you want to listen to DDB staff.
4 people are leaving within a year. That’s happens they didn’t all leave on the same day and some of them are leaving on a few months. Also y’all seriously believe replacements are alway right there? If some of them got a job and then told DDB they were leaving, DDB only just got a chance now to start hiring. Not to mention some replacements have been announced.
take what is being said without the grain of salt and maybe all the anxiety of wether or not DDB is have problems would fade.
The folks we’ve come to associate with the face of DDB, are going elsewhere, as happens when talented individuals become widely known. They all deserve great things and support. I’m not going to jump to conclusions regarding the future of DDB. It seems like a great company and will continue to provide awesome content.
So...yeah. Nice of Stormknight and Lauren to try and reassure folks, but since they'd be contractually obligated to do so no matter the actual state of DDB, people will suspect incipient insolvency regardless.
??? No contract can force you to say nice things about the company that you work for. It may force conditions on you for saying negative things but that's about the extent that a contract can control what people say. They can't force Lauren to take her time to come here an reassure people. I mean she's already leaving, what would they do if she refused? Fire her??

Well if your job is based on community management it would look poor to shit talk the company you just left. It's more about the perception you want to make for your next position. It can be an amicable departure and still bode poorly for the company as well.
They got kidnapped and brainwashed by Elon Musk to be private Tutors for his children on their trip to mars. That’s why they had to leave, to join NASAs cosmonaut training program. (I didn’t mixed up astronaut, there was a secret takeover in NASA by the KGB that the goverment is trying to hide.)

Yeah I understand why they would do it for their own personal reasons and benefit. But that's not a contractual obligation...

So to make it even more suspicious, a WOTC employee just announced their 2 weeks and to look out for something new upcoming.
I just want to tell everyone "happy gaming" and actually mean it. Whatever your game is, just have fun with it, it is after all, just a game.
That's interesting, because DDB and WotC are separate from each other. A new enterprise on the horizon then?
