Game: D&D 5e Group type: Play by Email (and messenger/whatsapp maybe) Experience: New to D&D, but not new to GMing in general Location/Timezone: Not important, but I'm in York UK. Schedule: Whenever - that's the joy of PBEM Roles sought: Players , 3 to 5
Hi folks,
Much as I'd love to, I can't spare big chunks of time to get a game going in person or online. But what I can do is play by email. I've done this before with other systems (WFRP, Call of Cthulhu) and had a great time. I was just wondering if anyone else in a similar position (or not) would be interested? I'm open to players of all abilities, ages, genders, experience. I'm envisioning that it would be a time commitment of an hour or three per week spread over the week, but once we've got the squad together we can see what people can manage.
In terms of the campaign itself, it'll be sandbox rather than railroad, the settings and scenarios designed by myself but fleshed out as we go along. It'll be fairly gritty. We'd be starting at first level and see how far we can go!
Interesting, as someone who misses playing so much, is desperate to play, but just can't find the time (that is until I learn how to survive without eating), this concept has my attention. I would love to hear more.
I indeed might also be interested, I might be only 24, but even I remember playing multiplayer games via email, you do your move, then forward a savefile to the other person who then takes their move and so it goes. We played old civ games like that, it was weird coming home from school, making your turns and then forwarding it to your friend, sometimes you got a answer back with minutes, other times days.... Anyway, I might be in, it will be just a punch of text walls, but hey, gives me an outing to practice my English.
Life is very busy unfortunately, gone from most Pbp's indefinitely. If you'd like to contact me, I am on Discord at GreatAxeblade#7595, always happy to chat :)
I'd be interested in playing as well. Have you considered making a private forum here to play on, or using discord instead of email? I'd be fine no matter what, but been looking for a good PBP to get in on.

I don't like the look of what I've seen in the forum - it's not my style. I don't know what Discord even is!

I've already posted this to a couple of people here, but in case you're wanting more details:
Essentially, I post a game turn, which collates everything that happened since the last post. It's the official version of events.
Then players and me discuss and state intentions much as if we were face to face, but via email or some kind of chat. Dice rolls and outcomes get sorted.
Then I collate all this into another official game turn. Rinse and repeat. The official turns should make a readable story, kind of like an ongoing short story or novella.
In terms of the setting, I'll send something meatier out once I've got a few more interested parties, but the game world is recovering from an apocalypse, borders are expanding, magic is awakening and sleeping evils are stirring!
How the story begins and subsequently unfolds will depend on what characters people want to play. Like I say: sandbox ;)

i am sadly new to this where I live D&D is not a thing so I will need some help here and there, but I have a great imagination and I write a lot so I can do paragraphs and I have RP on discord so I do have some experience.
If you are okay with me asking a lot of questions I would love to join

I know it's been a long time between posts on this thread, but I am looking for 5-6 play by email players for a new campaign, 5th ed but set in the 3rd ed version of Forgotten Realms. This will be a role-play/social skills heavy campaign with some combat. Characters will be starting at 3rd level. I prefer no firearms/technology using classes (gunslinger, artificer, tinker Gnome, etc.), nor construct races (warforged, scarecrows, etc.). I am flexible on both of these for REALLY interesting characters.

Sounds interesting, but why email? This website has a text-based game player built in!

Sounds cool, but also slow and clunky.

Hi, I'm massively inexperienced and I can only play by email, but I'm looking for a simple campaign that isn't too graphic. Sorry, I'm a wimp.
