I've joined Dragonworks recently and so far, I am very impressed with everything. From the organization to the quality of the DM and campaign, I am truly enjoying myself. I used their free session to see if I'd like it and I ended up subscribing right after that. I am super glad to see these types of communities developing here and elsewhere. I started playing when I was 14 years old (I am now 38) and beyond playing with your friends, I always found it difficult to form a consistent to group to play with (especially if you move a lot like me). This is really cool and makes it easy to start playing and get my fix of D&D every week ha.
I've been playing in the Medusa Team for a year now. Last time I posted here, I said I absolutely adored my experience. Now, I am fully invested and completely enjoying my time. As proof, I wake at 6AM every Saturday to play this game (and I do it with joy)! My minotaur barbarian has grown so much and our party is advancing quite nicely, having fun and fighting stuff!! Overall, if you want a quality, quintessential D&D experience with incredible DM (particular shoutout to my DM, Alex), then look no further!!
I've been playing with Dragonworks since about March of 2022. The experience has been phenomenal and I can't recommend it enough! The all original grand campaign is incredible and the DM's are amazing and always trying to make sure everyone has equal voice. 10/10 highly recommend you give them a try!
Hey everyone, I am Shawn. When i started to play with Dragonworks i was very new to the world of D&D. I'm about a year in and it has been a exciting time, I've learned a lot thanks to the community and the resources available that fit my schedule are awesome. I'm in a paid campaign and its been worthwhile and very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend and encourage you to look into it if you are looking for a group of dedicated people that make sure you have fun and get the best bang for your buck. #MedusaTeam #GrandCampaign # Quest# Sorlockmain
Adding to the list... I started playing with the Griffin team in February and it's been an awesome experience. The campaign is written extremely well and our DM is incredible. While I can't speak for other DM's personally, I'm sure they're equally as good. Dragonworks has built interesting encounters and custom items, both of which help to (in my opinion) balance some of the discrepancies between magic users and martial characters in 5e. While I've only experienced a bit of the storyline so far, it grabbed my attention early on and hasn't let go.
More importantly than all of that, the community that Dragonworks has built is genuinely friendly, caring, and helpful. I really can't emphasize that enough.
Overall I'd say I came for the custom campaign and stayed for the community. Definitely recommend.
Been apart of this game for about 2 months now and I have to say it is one of the best DnD experiences iv had, with most sessions consisting of a good amount of roleplay and interesting combat encounters. The best part being the fact that your character actually feels important and the backstory you bring is actually utilized. Totally worth the money!
I have been playing in the Astral Team for about 7 sessions, and I am having alot of fun. This is an amazing world that the team has built out with all original content, and alot of interesting details. As with all online D&D groups, the membership is pretty fluid, and there are frequently new faces, but the DM does a good job keeping it all togeather. I can very much suggest this community for either beginning players, or ones that have their 400th character.

Some teams are a little fluid, with sometimes people leaving due to unavoidable life changes. We just had one guy leave due to getting promoted at work, and we can hardly compete with that. But most teams are pretty solid. Around half of the teams are completely solid with almost no-one ever leaving. And most of the remaining half only have people leave rarely. We have also had a few teams with quite a few changes in membership.
All the adventures at Dragonworks are always fun with plenty of depth. Be it a one shot or a campaign. My favorite by far is the Halls of Alabaster! I have played using pathfinder 1E and using 5E. This is a grand campaign that will take your character from level 2 to level 20 and challenge you all the way. I am in my second campaign and still have not uncovered all the secrets that can be found in the campaign. Because much of the game depends on the choices the party makes, the game takes on a different feel each time as the other players always bring something new to the experience! The GM's are fun and exciting and have all been trained and prepared long before they start their first campaign. This is a game that focuses on fun! Their world is well thought out and completely fleshed out! How the campaign ends depends on you and the party and choices you make!
Hey all, so allow me to join the multitude singing the praises of Dragonworks. I’ve had the luck to play with 3 DM’s from this group, and they have really all been stellar. They are fun, friendly, and all invested in telling a meaningful story as a group. They are some of the best DM’s I have ever played with.
On top of that, the world written by this organization is totally enthralling. The humble beginnings where my party is currently at has impressive themes and great foreshadowing of what is to come. The story is compelling, and the world is so fleshed out!
The community overall is great. Everyone is very friendly, and there are a mix of players who enjoy roleplay for roleplay’s sake, as well as others that enjoy theorycrafting the strongest builds! You can get friendly help and advice and build new friendships with so many different points of view here.
All in all, Dragonworks is the most well-run and motivated group I have seen in TTRPG. It’s obvious why they are growing so rapidly, and why people who join, stay.
This is one of the most consistent groups I've had. The DMs are very rarely is unavailable and the group has a very wide array of schedules available. The Discord Server is very active too with a lot of fellas available to help at a notice or just chat in general.
Another important thing is that the worldbuilding and lore of the Main Campaign is very, very good. It accommodates multitudes of backgrounds, players and style. Heck, I could even see wanting to replay the campaign more than once because multiple choices actually matter and lead to something different.
All in all, you can't go wrong with Dragonworks and its friendly crew
I've been involved in Dungeons and Dragons as both a player and a DM for about 5 years now and can say without a doubt that DragonWorks has been my most enjoyable experience so far. This is not just limited to the campaign itself, but the community as a whole. From the moment you join (without even paying a dime might I add) you are made to feel extremely welcome.
In terms the campaign I can only speak for one DM, but I can say that he has been incredible with our rather varied group of players. He allows new players ample opportunity to learn and develop their characters' voices while also giving the more experienced players challenging and complex scenarios and moral dilemmas to overcome. It is also clear that while there is a SUBSTANTIAL amount of content written into the campaign, the DM is not following a script and leading us on the rails. He is very flexible and often comes up with scenarios on the fly when things (often) don't quite go the normal route for our party.
Aside from the DM the campaign itself is very well fleshed out from the NPC's to cities and even down to the descriptions of the meals that are provided. I can't stress enough how well thought out the experience that DragonWorks has created is. If you are in the market for your next Dungeons and Dragons experience then I would absolutely recommend stopping by the DragonWorks Discord and saying hi. You may be pleasantly surprised by the community right away.
So much of my own experience has all ready been posted by many others above. Being at Dragon Works has been fantastic. I love the DM's who put so much of their time and energy into making the player participation worth wild adventure. If your experience is anything like mine, you won't be sorry. Shout out to my DM @grumpymagician, you rock! Thanks as well to everyone at Dragon Works as well as the Dragon Works community for making it such a fantastic place to hang ones D&D hat.
After watching Critical Role episodes during the pandemic, I got intrigued by D&D and TTRPGs in general, but having an introverted personality can really be a setback in terms of just putting myself out there. But I eventually did, posting in Reddit and Roll20 LFGs left and right, hoping something would stick. Didn't realize how difficult that task was going to be, how many were like me trying to find a suitable group-- it almost felt like shouting into nothingness.
Then out of the blue, Hannu contacted me and asked me to join Dragonworks. He commented on my elven profile picture and I truly appreciated the friendliness-- that was a good sign right away, and for an introvert, a cool thing to be reached out to like that. And then after seeing the campaign primer, I was impressed at the level of detail-- a lot of love and effort was put into this, so I got even more excited at the prospect of joining something potentially good. Then joining the Discord group and having several people welcome you convinced me to try out the Grand Campaign.
I've been with the group for a few months now, with probably 10 sessions under my belt. I joined a little later than everyone else at Level 5, but that didn't stop them from welcoming me warmly. The chaotic camaraderie of The Menagerie (as we'd like to call ourselves) is great, and of course, leading the helm is our truly awesome DM, GrumpyMagician. (I actually see some of these great guys posting before me here. *waves*) Every session is a delight in storytelling, in roleplaying, in character building, in combat tactics-- truly a fantastic holistic D&D experience in every sense. It's come to a point where I'm actually sad that I'm missing a session because of vacations (and doubly sad especially if I missed a truly epic session)!
My Sundays are not what they used to be, and it's all thanks to this community.
The guides and DMs of this community are exceptional. I spent what felt like forever looking for a homebrew campaign with dedicated players and DMs, and I finally found it with Dragonworks. I've been with my party & DM for only two months now, and I already love them. Leadership is supportive and attentive and do a great job of building a community for the players. Try out Dragonworks... I promise you won't be disappointed!
I've had a lot of fun over the last year playing in one of the tables of Dragonworks's current main campaign. They asked if I could leave a review here and I'm happy to do so. Dragonworks is an interesting outfit. I enjoy telling friends about it.
good GMs, well trained and supported
attentively overseen by the company leader and original GM with energy, wisdom, and humility
large but friendly community discord server
they seem to be good at managing potentially difficult personalities or situations. I've seen very little social friction and it's always been low-key.
the setup makes it possible to play a long campaign to completion, which can be hard to find. For example, when my campaign group's GM had to leave, other GMs were available first to substitute for him and then to take his place, all pretty smoothly. The games are strong and stable, which motivates players to stay.
the adventure content is solid, varied and interesting. The main campaign appears to have been derived from a published campaign, but as best as I can surmise the first year of game play has involved almost no content that would have been in the published one. They say it's a remake of another campaign but they're a bit cagey about the specifics, I think principally to avoid spoilers. (Dragonworks told me the main campaign is a remake of a homebrew campaign, rather than of a published one.)
the games are designed for player enjoyment. The company leader seems to be very experienced GMing online games for many different people. I think he understands what people like and what works, and knows how to deliver an experience that will be fun for a lot of people.
The flip side of that is that for my taste in TTRPGs, the experience is a bit overly curated, safe, and oriented toward making players happy customers. The content is pre-written and there's an emphasis on delivering it. And in a year of playing I haven't seen our heroes face any real chance of failure. But Dragonworks is still good at making the game feel like an adventure. It's a good time for what it is.
Thank you for the awesome reviews, guys! I really appreciate it.
And Roko, thank you for the straight talk in the review. I was unaware Basilisk Team felt curated in terms of content and the level of difficulty. Difficulty really depends on the DMs. The occasional failure is something that absolutely makes for a great time around the table. Thanks for letting me know and I'll talk to your DM about it! Now we can improve your game!
I am the DM in charge of telling the tale of Tiger Team on Dragonworks and still pretty new to the organization but the amount of support and appreciation I receive from both my coworkers and players has been unreal.
I was pretty hesitant to try online games after a few rather disastrous attempts at finding games on Roll20. In fact, I was becoming so illusioned with the community that I thought about throwing the towel on TTRPGs for good after a decade of playing and enjoying the game. I figured 'hey, these guys do one-shots. I give it one more try for old times' sake." After that one game, I was back. The party was quick to come together under the hospices of the story, the dm was quick and rolled with our punches and was organized enough to give us a fun experience without pausing no matter how we tried to shake him, and the setting was a blast and a half.
I played their free one-shots and even playing in the campaign for about half a year before they tapped me to join them as a dm and, after a decent training setup meant to help their new hires, I took on running missions and, eventually, a campaign of my own. To be a professional DM has been a dream of mine since childhood so to finally realize that dream with a team of fellow DMs and writers as devoted to advancing the game and enjoying the experience of Dnd as I am has been nothing short of a pleasure.
