Game: D&D 5e Homebrew Campaign in an original setting. Group type: Online - Preferably through Discord. Experience: All players welcome! New players included! I have been DMing for friends and family for years, and I am happy to help new players learn! Location/Timezone: EST Schedule: Weekend sessions in the evenings. May vary on which day of the weekend and time works best for everyone. Roles sought: Looking for 4-5 players. Game style: A roughly balanced mix between role play, adventure, and combat. There will be some custom creatures and settings, so we may have to adjust things on the fly, but I strongly focus on making sure that my players are having a good time, and everyone gets to do their fair share of what they enjoy.
RULES:
Foster respect. Don't bring personal conflicts to that table or let disagreements escalate into bad feelings. If there is a conflict with another player, bring it to my attention and we can work to resolve it together.
Avoid distractions when possible. I know they happen to all of us, myself included. An occasional interruption or distraction is expected, but don't abuse the leniency. Everyone is here to play and enjoy their time playing. Please be respectful of that.
Stay in character. If you need to speak out of character we will have a separate area for that. It's important that we know who is speaking, you or your character, and keeping the chats separate will just help keep that clarification easy.
Try to avoid metagaming. Sometimes you may learn something your party members don't know. If it would not be possible to share this info in game, then please don't. You may also learn something outside of the session that your character wouldn't know. Try not to play your character reactionary to this information, if its not something they would rightfully know. The hope is to create a fun story for everyone to enjoy.
No rules lawyers. I may at time make a decision contrary to written rules. That might even happen often. But I will be consistent. I often go with rule of cool. If I think it makes the game more enjoyable or adds a fun or interesting dynamic to the game I'll allow it. At the same time if I think its annoying or silly, or just plain don't agree, I may override it. DM has final say on all rule interpretations or changes.
Constructive feedback is appreciated. Unconstructive is not. Don't just tell me "I hate everything about this campaign". Explain to me what you are not enjoying, why you are not enjoying it, and some suggestions for how I may be able to improve things for you. Don't create problems, help me find solutions.
Be kind to others. I don't care if you're playing an evil warlock who sacrificed his own family and eats baby fairies for breakfast. DON'T BE A JERK TO YOUR CO-PLAYERS. I can't stress this enough. I have seen many toxic players ruin a game for everyone by trying to justify their actions with "I'm evil, this is how my character acts". Even evil people have comrades. Don't be a jerk. Nobody likes a jerk.
HAVE FUN. Seriously. It's a game. We all love games, and that's why we're here. Relax, have fun, and maybe make a new group of friends.
I reserve the right to edit and add to this list at all times for the benefit of the game and our players. Essentially just be a decent person, get along, and have fun playing this game we all love or are growing to love!
Campaign Setting: A large chain of islands known as the Lost Isles off the coast of a large continental country known as the Golden Empire. The Lost Isles and the Empire are separated by a vast sea known as the Wasting Waters. They have only been discovered in the last few decades by the Greywing Shipping Company, whose merchant caravan was carried far off coarse by a large storm and shipwrecked on the largest of the islands, later named Goldfall. It is in the largest city of the new settlements there that you will start your journey, arriving to the port city Fairpoint, the original area the merchant fleet ran aground and survived for months before making their way back to the Empire. You all will be passengers on the ship known as the Errant Osprey, a transport ship that brings settlers and adventurers from the Empire who wish to travel to the Isles to seek freedom, adventure, and a fresh start.
Lore & World Restrictions: This is a High Fantasy setting. Modern technology and weapons are largely absent, though there are some magical replacements that may exist. Magic is common throughout the lands. Some customization and even homebrew spells and skills may be allowed, but we need to make sure things stay balanced. I'm even open to new classes if we talk about them, and agree that you may be nerfed at any time we notice an imbalance making things a little too OP. (I.e. No playing as an immortal demon king reincarnated with massive amounts of magical knowledge and experience. And no level 1 war enders. Sorry! :p) Please note, that this is a fully custom world, so there will be no deities from existing D&D lore, or any other aspect of lore from Faerun or any other official content. Be prepared to adjust some classes to fit custom content. Thanks!
Anyone wishing to join, please apply with the following:
Character Idea: This can be an existing class and race, or even something custom if we talk about it first. I have many custom races that will be present throughout the campaign, so don't be afraid to ask!
Your availability: At least a rough estimate. Most sessions will be on weekends with potential for bonus sessions at random that will always be optional.
Discord Tag: This one is self explanatory. :D
Your favorite play style: Do you like role play, hack and slash, dungeon crawl, puzzles and riddles? Help me understand how to build the most enjoyable game for you.
Your experience level: This is not a determining factor on whether you join or not, it just helps me plan ahead on pacing, difficulty, the amount of time that will need to be spent on rules and etc.
An interesting idea you would like to see in a campaign: The great thing about homebrew is that most of this is being made up on the fly to suit the setting I have developed in my mind. You can be a part of that too! Never be afraid to suggest something that may help improve the story!
What you would like to get out of this campaign: I'm hoping to run this campaign for a long time to come for example. I want to expand upon the world that I have given birth to in my mind, and share the creation and expansion of that world with a new group of friends. Tell me what it is you hope to get out of this campaign so we can make sure we're all on the same page! :)
Any other questions comments, or concerns you would like to share with me?
Hello, me and my partner have been looking for a fun game to be a part of. Would you be using dndbeyond character sheets or roll20 maps? Also it says EST but do you know what day and time you would be running?
My friend and I are looking for a game, I’d love to discuss with you further! I can send you my discord name if you’d like. She is a relatively new player and I’ve been playing since “DnDnext”
Would love to discuss. Wife and I are looking for a place to play where I am not DMing. This sounds like a great campaign and a great time.
My Info:
Character Idea: Aasimar Cleric, Goku esque monk build (lawful good), redemption paladin, I have a full list of character ideas depending on the setting
Your availability: weekend evenings would work great but would be 10PM est (after little ones are in bed which means 8PM our time ready to play).
Discord Tag: Obsolete-Arcanis#3808
Your favorite play style: I love them all. Role-play, puzzles, combat, dungeoning, etc. Rolling and playing is fun.
Your experience level: Played consistently since 2019
What you would like to get out of this campaign: Fun times and laughs with my wife and friends
Wife Info:
Same as above except she has played through half of a campaign and has been playing a few months. Interested in playing healing characters in the support role that are good aligned.
Hey, name's Carter! I'm a martial arts teacher and sociology student looking to be a counselor.
Character Idea: An Amethyst Dragonborn Wild Magic Barbarian cinnamon roll ray of sunshine (Neutral Good). I've got art that I've been sitting on for a while and I've never gotten the chance to fully play this character from start to finish.
Availability: Friday and Saturday nights work the best for me as I have another session on Sunday that I'm not willing to reschedule.
Discord Tag: zthandrapus#0
Preferred Playstyle: I'm a heavy roleplayer, but I do like hitting things
Experience Level: been playing D&D since 2015 and I've DM'ed for numerous homebrew campaigns already.
What I'd like from this campaign: an engaging story and a good group dynamic between the PCs and players.
My name is Matt, it would be great to talk in more detail about this and share some ideas. Here is my info below, let me know what you think.
Character Idea: I’d like to play a warforged Draconic Sorcerer that I have a great backstory for. I’d love to hear about your custom races to, and I have other character concepts that might fit in with those
Your availability: monday through Wednesday, ideally between 6:30 and 11:30 EST time. I can be flexible though
Discord Tag: Tiigz#7768
Your favorite play style: A little bit of everything is a good way to keep things fresh. I like thinking strategically about whatever we are doing and finding fun and creative solutions to what we are facing as a group.
Your experience level: experienced, with a lot of 5e groups. My long term group had scheduling conflicts that caused us to have to break.
An interesting idea you would like to see in a campaign: I think some of the best ideas come from personal story arcs that can be built into the overarching plot. I am a warforged Draconic Sorcerer, and a brass dragon was mortally wounded and transferred its soul into a warforged. It could be interesting to build into the campaign a scenario where the brass dragon could resume living in a dragon body (through necromancy or something similar) there could be a lot to play with!
What you would like to get out of this campaign: I am looking for a long term campaign and exploring your world. I’d love to find a group where we can all become friends through our travels and shared experience together. It would be great if one adventure leads to another and we can all come together as a group and build a legacy together!
Feel free to reach out, it would be great to talk about your ideas in more detail and how we can do this together.
Character Idea: Changeling bard with a charlatan background.
Availability: should be free pretty much whenever though timezones may make it a bit more difficult. Though I should manage fine.
Discrod: non_stick_pan
Playstyle: Roleplay and combat. Enjoy a bit of stealthier gameplay too sometimes.
Experience: Not a pro but not a total noob. I have a decent grasp of the main mechanics in dnd.
Idea: I'd like the campaign to maybe be involved in political turmoil and have to figure out which sides to fight for and such. My charisma based character would work well with this as well.
I really just want a campaign that's long term which I could be a part of. Short campaigns are fun but I'm looking forward to seeing how the party adapts to the world around them and how they gel together as a group. Plus I really enjoy homebrew content. It's interesting to see different people's creativity.
Availability: mostly anytime Sunday. I'd PDT, so prolly not before noon your time, but good past that :)
Discord: kamah. (with the period)
Character idea: Mira, a chaotic good oath of the open sea paladin (haven't decided on her Race yet, also honestly might change the class, but the oath tennets fit well). She'd wield a harpoon (flavored polearm), and have an ocean/hunter theme (think Gladiia from arknights). I love the abyssal hunters from arknights, so maybe glance at those for the vibe I'm going for. Personality-wise, chaotic good, mostly follows the tenants of the oath for a baseline, but also they're a bit playful, preferring to joke around in non-serious situations and ignore authorities, while also being a little bit edgy and dramatic. Also, they're bit teasy, messing with people for the fun of it, mostly if she finds them annoying (if this becomes a problem I can stop :) Backstory, I'd want a bit more information and to make it with you, but a few general ideas: 1: She's part of some abyssal hunting organization that keeps people save from monsters of the ocean. 2: She's from the isles themselves, and might know a bit more about the deeps that lurk there. She's dragged to the main continent by some sort of whirlpool, and she wants to return. 3: She's secretly some spawn or being from the sea, and went to the main continent to train in hunting those who were with her, iunno~ best backstories are made with Dm anyways, so whatever works. Some sort of hunter though. Also, I tend to multiclass, so I'll work with and consult you on that if it comes up
Playstyle: nice balance. I'm really into all pillars of play, but I'd lean toward combat. I'm not huge on puzzles and riddles, I prefer environmental challenges, but I'm all good for them if they come up. I like stories with a big climactic finish and a clear final objective that we're generally working towards, though I do enjoy interacting with side stuff. I'm all good with wandering around a bit, but I'd like if there's some big hook soon that lures us into some core goal. I enjoy more challenging combats, not all the time, but I'd love the occasional hard miniboss to go around. Also! I very much prefer battlemaps on roll20 and stuff over Theater of the mind, especially If I end up being a paladin. Also if this is an ocean campaign please don't pull a saltmash and actually have some underwater combats lol
Experience: bit under a year, mix of DMing and playing. I have a bit of experience being an overeager player, so I'll try and work myself into the group as best as I can and be a team player. I also work on some homebrew stuff and character builds, so I have plenty of experience with the mechanics. I have tons of stuff on DnD beyond, and I'm used to roll20. I tend to go with Discord (VC), Roll20 (battlemaps and info-keeping like inventory), and DnDbeyond (characters).
Interesting Idea: I'd love some sort of slight eldritch or mystery tone of the game, with some great being of the deep disturbing the waters and ocean and needing to be taken down, side quest or backstory or not. Also for a more mechanical one, a thing I'm a huge fan of is, at ASI levels, you get both a feat and an ASI. I try it in my games and it seems really nice for the players, since feats are fun and it allows it to feel like you're growing stronger directly too. might wanna swap a bit for the fighter is there is one, but eh~ Other more mechanical and niche thing, but if I'm going for a paladin, I'd love to ge a bit more versatility in my weapons. I've found that it's more fun to give different options with magic weapons and stuff instead of a flat buff, like a grappling hook weapon that deals 1d4 at a range and drags people closer, or a magical coral scythe that cuts through water. I'd be hyped to work with you for more on that~
What I'd like to get out of it: To start, I love DnD so goddamned much, so I'm hoping to get some fun out of that. Also, I'm free over the summer, and I was getting a bit restless, so I figure that having another DnD character for me to help build and pour my ideas into seems like a fun time. I went sundays so I have time for this anwyays when stuff starts back up, don't worry~ Besides that, I'd love to get more into the DnD circle with other people, get some new friends to talk to. For the game itself, I want to try and fulfill the fantasy of an ocean hunter, where she's exploring for a mix of reasons, but also simply because she wants to hunt and see what great prey she can find. So many of my ideas boil down to something similar to that, so this campaign seems perfect for her to shine :)
Other: I love working with DM for fun stuff in my DnD games, and I'll try my best to give good feedback on games and help make this the best game we can~ also i flavor stuff tons. So be aware of that, I'll pass em all by you.
Character Idea: Astral Elf Sorrccer (may have a single level dip into Cleric down the road)
Availability: Preferred Weekend evenings, but any time after 3pm CST works for me. (Work a 8-5 job during the week).
Discord: BogusBladezz(#9809)
Overall play style I enjoy a little bit of everything but tend to be drawn towards combat and puzzles/riddles. Role-playing is fun depending on the type of character I'm playing. (I.e Barbarian vs Bard would have two very different outlooks on social interactions)
I've played in 3 campaigns and a few one shots. Currently in a campagin that plays 9am~1pm CST.
Interesting things I'd like to see: Personally I'm always interested in creative monsters and situations that don't always have one solution. I'd love to see what kind of sea creatures and eldlitch horrors await the party.
The one thing I'd really like to get out of this campagin would be good character development and level progression. Doesn't have to be fast but would love to see what some High Level play feels like when it goes on longer than one session.
Character : Tiefling sorcerer of wild magic. Criminal/Spy
availability: (evenings &weekends) very flexible
Experience: completed one campaign with my brother and cousins - about 4 days 3 hours each. Loved it and would like to learn more!
favorite play style: i have never been asked this/thought about it but I think riddles magic and mystery are my favorite - I love solving puzzels or getting out of situations
discord : nelliebellie#4217
what I would like to get out of the campaign: learning my character more deeply and experience with their skills/magic. Also making friends and getting lost in a world 🌸
So excited to hear back from you!!!
Thank you for this post- you seem like a wonderful DM and I appreciate how much you consider your players desires! 🌸
Well met! My name is El :) my pronouns are they/them and I'd love to join your campaign!!
Character Idea: I have multiple premade characters since it's a hobby of mine (I'll link them below). But since you're running a homebrew I'm open to discussing different character ideas that would work well in your world and the party!
Your availability: My work schedule is sadly hectic (the joys of two jobs) but I'm normally available Saturday evenings (5pm CST at the earliest and 8:30pm CST at the latest depending on my shift); otherwise I am available on Tuesday evenings at 6:00pm CST.
Discord Tag: senpai.el
Your favorite play style: a good balance of roleplay, puzzles, combat, and lore/mystery!
Your experience level: I'm returning to D&D so I have some knowledge but would consider myself new.
An interesting idea you would like to see in a campaign: I'm a big fan of working with DMs to weave character backstory into the lore of the world and some quests we may venture on!
What you would like to get out of this campaign: I love world-building, character development, and overall joining a fun environment with others who share a passion for D&D and role play :) It'd be nice to be in a campaign again!
Your availability: Anytime passed 8:30 pm would work if something doesn't come up.
Discord Tag: Zilla
Your favorite play style: I prefer role-play and story focus campaigns.
Your experience level: I'm a novice who played several one-shots.
An interesting idea you would like to see in a campaign: The exploration of the moral gray zone that all high-ranking officers face within any form of government.

Also, they're bit teasy, messing with people for the fun of it, mostly if she finds them annoying (if this becomes a problem I can stop :)
Backstory, I'd want a bit more information and to make it with you, but a few general ideas: 1: She's part of some abyssal hunting organization that keeps people save from monsters of the ocean.
I try it in my games and it seems really nice for the players, since feats are fun and it allows it to feel like you're growing stronger directly too. might wanna swap a bit for the fighter is there is one, but eh~
Other more mechanical and niche thing, but if I'm going for a paladin, I'd love to ge a bit more versatility in my weapons.
Other: I love working with DM for fun stuff in my DnD games, and I'll try my best to give good feedback on games and help make this the best game we can~
also i flavor stuff tons.
