First off, I would like to say I still am a "new" DM. I've ran a campaign here and there though I've taken a break for quite awhile because I got into other hobbies. Now I'm back and interested in setting up a 4-player short (maybe medium) campaign. I'm taking a different approach and instead of building the world before-hand I want to meet the players then build a quick world after. . . thats the idea. I do want to seek people I can just vibe and chill with so if you could fill out the template below that would be nice ya know. - Age - Experience with D&D or other TTRPGs - Preferred play style (e.g., roleplay-heavy, combat-focused, puzzle-solving, balanced) - Availability (days/times they can play, timezone) - Interest in character development (backstory, goals, roleplay opportunities) - Expectations for group communication and coordination - Level of commitment (how often they can commit to play, how many sessions) - Conflict resolution preferences (how they prefer issues to be handled in or out of game) - What they’re hoping to get out of the campaign (fun, escapism, storytelling, etc.) - Any specific goals for their character (if they already have one in mind) - If you HAD to ask one question, what would it be - Discord Username?
After this I would be doing a VC Interview through Discord. PLZ feel free to ask me any questions and speak your mind (This right here is very important since communication is key bruh)
I have a more than a year's worth of experience with DND and have been playing in 3 campaigns with different people so far (1st one being Waterdeep and 1st time playing with my best friend and her boyfriend DMing for us, we have another good friend of ours playing too. We had someone else for a while too but they dropped out a while back). 2nd campaign is still new-ish for me with all new people at a card and game shop in my area. Had 3 sessions with them so far, and we're level 7 rn. Then 3rd campaign is brand new and entirely on DNDB and Discord. We only had a practice RP/quest session with me and one other player (after someone else abruptly dropped out long story short) and we leveled up to lvl 4 (started out at 3). We also had a meet and greet session with 2 new players not long after. I've also played in 3 one shots, highest level played being 6. I haven't really played any other TTRPGs yet though.
I prefer overall balanced campaigns (RP, combat, exploration, puzzles), but tend to lean a bit more towards RP and exploration. I'm into a lot of dark and edgy entertainment (I love Berserk and Souls games for example) so I tend to be okay with some more dark and mature themes in campaigns.
I am in CST, and I'm open on Monday nights, Tuesday nights, Thursday nights, and Friday nights. So in evening to night hours on those days I'm open to play. As a heads up, I have no access to a PC. Just got my phone.
I'm undecided on which character I want to play, but I keep a backlog of rolled up characters on DNDB, and some of them already have finished backstories. 90% of my backstories tend to be quite lengthy, but I want to leave loose ends of the story open for the DM to be creative, and just say "do what you want with this or that detail". (Ex: dragonborn bard escapes from his home town after acting in self-defense against his jealous older sister, who lost to him and his team in a Bard competition. He casted a Vicious Mockery on her that he now regrets because he went too far with what he said after he just backhanded her across the face. So now that he's run away from his town and eventually starts his journey after becoming an info broker, what happened to his band mates and family after the competition? That's for DM to get creative with). I'm a fan of a lot of Chaotic Good aligned characters, so I tend to enjoy playing characters who still want to do good, even if it means facing societal repercussions for it. I'm also big on sad and tragic backstories, and for the flaws my characters can have from theirs, I want to see them learn to grow and overcome whatever haunts them.
For expectations I want there to be consistent communication when it comes to planning sessions. I want to be able to know who will all be able to make it ahead of time, and I have a tendency to jump into gaming voice chats ahead of time to prepare. I also ask that everyone please keep their own political and religious views outside of the game. You're free to have whatever political views and religious views you want, but we're all just here to have fun and roll dice, not to have debates with people and constantly argue about what politicians are corrupt and what gods are or aren't real. I am also someone who is transgender (FTM, so trans man) and I ask in the most polite way possible to please be respectful of my pronouns, orientation, and gender identity. I use he/him/his pronouns but I'm also okay with they/them/theirs. Just no she/her/hers. Please and thank you. Also, if there is anything I do in or out of game that you find upsetting or uncomfortable for any reason, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Also in game, I am NEVER okay with my character or anyone else's characters being SA'd, mainly due to personal trauma from it growing up.
I am committed to playing as much as I can since I tend to have a pretty flexible schedule. Depending on how things go for everyone, I'd want to see us make it by lvl 10-15 in our campaign, maybe even all the way up to 20 if things go brilliantly and we're all experienced and prepared enough to take on tougher enemies. I am fine with playing more than once a week depending on everyone else's schedules and such.
If we had any conflict in or out of game, then it should be a one on one conversation between DM and the player(s) involved in the problem. If it's a problem that affects everyone else involved directly, it should be an open and at table discussion, with healthy boundaries established, issues with the game, and expectations politely and assertively established.
I am looking to make new friends to play with in other campaigns if all goes well with this one. I'm super into RP and world-building, so escapism is a big one for me, and of course having fun with it is just as important. I'm a writer, so storytelling is also big for me. Formulation of character friendships and other meaningful bonds are also something I'm fond of as a player.
Again, not sure which kind of character I want to play. Depends on what other party members have already, but depending on the situation and the mood of character type I'm in, I don't mind going with a character that has the same class as someone else, especially if I end up leveling them to be a multi-class character (ex a warlock multiclassing as a bard, or a barbarian multiclassing as a paladin).
If I had one question, it would simply be what level we'd start out at.
- I don't mind anything, but want everyone to be able to agree on one thing without killing each other (that has happened before in one of the sessions I played)
- Pretty committed
- Maybe talk it out, find solutions
- All of the above. I really like fantasy
- Not anything specific and it really depend on the character I make.
- if I had to ask one question, how chaotic can a character be?
I have played pretty regularly for 4 1/2 years, as well as every iteration of Baldur's Gate, Elder Scrolls etc. I adore fantasy, as you can see.
It would be most excellent to have balance between combat, roleplay and the odd puzzle,
i tend to do the basic ideals, bonds and flaws, as it helps me understand character motivation, i an not opposed to exploring backstories, i tend to leave it fairly vague, and if the DM wants to enlighten me, that would be grand.
I would like to play with a group that values communication, and is involved in progressing the story, and who shows up. I am committed to playing a long term type campaign, establishing friendships and would hope to play weekly
I am available most evenings (except Friday) and weekends. I live on The West Coast of North America (time zone PST/PDT)
Conflict resolution, every one should get a chance to play, and be heard, i hope that there is mutual respect, and through openness, the conflicts should be resolved. i tend to want to contribute, but if others have a strong feeling about something, I can back off, unless it is a group of murder hobos
a good story and some joy in exploring new adventure
I played AD&D back in the early 90s for about 3 years and started DM'ing for a few months before I graduated. I recently decided I wanted to get back into the hobby and began researching. Initially, I thought I would try to get back into AD&D 2.0, but after my research I found I liked much about 5e so I began buying in and looking for an opportunity to play again.
I can play Fridays and Saturdays starting around 5 pm EST most weeks.
I like both storied backstory and enjoy trying to optimize the builds. I enjoy combat as well as exploration and problem solving.
I prefer communication through some sort of dedicated app with the group devoted to the group communications.
With rare exception I should be able to play at least once a week for as long as the game goes and is a positive experience.
Conflicts between players needs to be mediated by the Dungeon Master and conflicts need to remain to those inside the game. All players need to respect the opinions and beliefs of others and not try to force their beliefs on the others. (In other words leave religion and politics and anything similar out of the group.)
I am looking to have a weekly fun escape that hopefully fulfills my love of a good fantasy story.
I am hoping to be able to play the character class/subclass/build that I desire. At present what I want more than anything is to play a high elven Wizard/Bladesinger who was supported by his elder sister who was an adventurer, but with whom he lost contact with. He wants to find her or find out what happened to her. He also wants to make his bladesinging mentor proud of him as well as the male elven scribe who gave him a trade to support himself with until he was fully trained and ready to begin his search for his sister.
My one question is which set of 5e rules are allowed? Core Rules 2014? Core Rules 2024? Xanathar's? Tasha's? Fizbin's? Book of Many Things?
