Experienced DM/GM looking for local players for once or twice a month game. Play on the weekends, preferably Saturdays. Host online or at a local gaming store to start, once everyone is comfortable I'm willing to host at my house. I would like to attempt a game solely in the confines of DDB capabilities. The end goal is to create a group of players for twitch and or youtube videos.
Game: D&D 5e with D&D Beyond control
Group type: DDB/Discord/NE TN location
DM Experience: 35 years, DMed all settings
Location/Timezone: EST - NE Tennessee - Tri-Cities Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol (roundabouts)
Schedule: Looking to run games one or two times a month on weekends.
Roles sought: 2-3 players
Game style: New player-friendly, more focused on role-playing but with a healthy mix of combat.
THAC0 means "To-Hit Armor Class 0", and depending on who you ask, it was either pronounced "thack-oh" or "thay-ko". When a -5 was amazing and an insult was asking, "What alignment are you again?"
I will be looking as long as this is still active. I will try and revisit once a month to keep it going. My end goal is to find players that might be willing to live stream a game.

Hi, my roommate and I are trying to get involved in D&D but learning on our own has been tough, it would be great to play a game with a DM who has as much experience as you do.

Nice. I live in the Tri-Cities area. I'm working a lot, but once or twice a month on weekends sounds cool. Send me some more info, no hurry, and we'll see what we can do.
2020 has taken its toll on me just as much as everyone else. This is in limbo until the pandemic is dealt with.

Hi I see this post is old. Are you still looking for players? I’m brand new, read the players handbook, and played a one shot game. I’m interested in learning.
Greetings all. I see that this thread is a bit old, but hopefully the Tri-Cities folks are still on DDB and will see this message.
In May I’m relocating to Kingsport, and in the past three years I have become hooked on D&D (5e). I love to play, and I love to DM.
I played D&D briefly when I was in college in 1978, but that (and college) didn’t last long. I also played briefly in the mid-2000s with my young kids, but that didn’t last long either. However in early 2019 I started playing again, and dove in head-first. I absolutely love the diversion, and the creative outlet that D&D provides.
I have played in several campaigns, including Homebrews, and Curse of Strahd.
I have also DMed Tomb of Annihilation, and a homebrew adventure which I have written and is designed to be part of or lead into a campaign.
My ultimate goal is to find a pool of excited D&Ders with whom to establish a group or three to play/DM with.
How I like to play/DM. Well, I mentioned that D&D is a creative outlet for me, and this drives my style of play. I love role-playing, and consider that to be a vital part of the experience. The storytelling and combat just feed into it. I consider the group dynamics to be vital as well. When I DM, I think I guide more than rule. And while I respect the rules, and follow them almost all the time, the “rule of cool” is another vital piece of this experience. I think I am a players DM. Would I follow through on a TPK? Yes. But I think I’d be as broken up as the players.
Anyway. Let’s see what sort of interest we can drum up, and go from there.
Hi there! I started playing about a year ago and still have a lot to learn. If you plan to start a new group I’m interested if timing and location work out. Also, as long as you and others would not mind when I’m unsure how things work and I ask or try the wrong thing. I am in Bristol, VA so I’m close to some areas of Kingsport. A “rule of cool” thing I’m doing in the game I play on Discord voice is my Paladin found a little piglet and is keeping him as a pet. The DM allowed me to turn the piglet into my steed with the spell find steed.

Well, hello there. I am definitely going to start a group in the Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson City area. I would likely want to host in my home as well. I could supply references from folks who have played in my home games. As far as location, my new home is just on the east side of Kingsport, I can provide specifics in DMs later. As far as timing, that will be something we work out.
Now concerning the continued learning of D&D, and rules as written (RAW) and all that, here’s my thoughts. For the games I’ve played in, and the games I’ve ran, following the rules as written provides a basis for all of us to have a level and fair playing field. Of course there’s always the “house rules” that should be explained in a session zero, but following the rules sets boundaries which allow us all to play freely. But… there’s always that “rule of cool” which keeps the game lively. This however is all at the discretion of the DM. Really, D&D is a fantasy based game, so having fantastic things happen not only makes it more fun, but is truly a cool core part of the game.
As far as this rule of cool, I’m a huge fan. I’m playing in a Descent into Avernus game where my character, a Minotaur War Cleric has adopted a miniature donkey as a pet. Or a homebrew game where my Circle of the Moon Gnome Druid picked up a hitchhiker Myconid in his robe after an encounter (social) with a group of Myconids. This hitchiking Myconid (Ruthie) and my Druid synced so much my DM allowed me to trigger a switch to Circle of Spores. These are the things that make the game spicy! So yeah. Rule of Cool.
I’m moving in early May, and will likely be ready by middle to end of May to start. I’ll DM you here with my direct email.
I’m hoping some others might see this message as well.
I'm definitely interested in a game in the Tri-Cities. Let me know if this comes together. I'm in Bristol, TN, but happy to travel to Kingsport.
I can assure you it will come together. I must play D&D. I'll keep notes and send a group DM in DDB once I get moved. I'm moving the first week of May, so it will likely be later that month. But it will happen.
Bidet to you all! I just came across this thread and thought I would also speak up. I’m located in Gray,TN and have been looking online to join a group to no avail yet. I played a crap ton online during the early stages of the pandemic but most groups have fallen apart. Very much interested in doing an in person session though so if there’s any opening around the table please keep me informed! Thanks!

Well hello there. Most excellent. I am indeed keen on starting a game. There are now three interested parties. A good start. Interestingly, I pre-moved some stuff to a storage unit in Kingsport, and stayed at an AirBnB. And the host is also a D&D player. May be interested as well.
So. I move officially next week (the first week of May 2022), and will likely have to take a few weeks to get settled. I'll wait until I move, but will then send a DM to each of the three interested folks, and we can get on an Email chain to determine next steps.
Concerning the play. I have ran Tomb of Annihilation once, and would love to run it again; I learned a lot from the first run of ToA. I have played a long campaign of Curse of Strand, and would also like to play that at some point. And I've ran a home-brew game, which seemed to be well-liked. This home-brew game could be expanded. But... I've also wanted to play or run an Icewind Dale, or Mythic Odysseys of Theros. So lots to do.
If I DM, I'm pretty lenient. Any published version of D&D 5e is acceptable, but any home-brew must be approved first. When I run and when I play I really want to try to get immersive -- which means limiting as much as possible metagaming -- and heartily endorse role playing as much as possible. I do tend to do RAW but this is secondary to seamless gameplay.
I dream of pulling together a group of like-minded players which we can build into a cohesive and funtime gaming group.
I too am a recent mover to the area, Elizabethton actually. I have been missing some IRL DnD for some time, especially since covid. I've been playing and DMing on and off for the past several years. If you are looking for another person for the table, please let me know. From what you said about your way of DMing and what you want to play, I am very interested.
Good morning Owen, and welcome to the (Tennessee) Tri-Cities. Absolutely we'd love you to join us. We started putting together a group of people, and had decided to play Curse of Strahd. But the scheduling of this has slowed down. It may be July before we could get this to come together.
However, I'd like to get a larger collection of folks together to get more than just one game going. Build this up into a community of D&D players. I'm ready and game to DM, and have a few ideas pretty much ready to go. Of course we would need a fourth at the Curse of Strahd table, so if you're into that that would be great.
We have a Slack workspace, which I used when I was in middle Tennessee, and with that groups permission I've enlarged it to include us. It's a good place, a common area, where we can share thoughts, funny memes, and have channels set up for specific games. If you'd like me to add you, then just direct message me your email address and I'll get it done.

My wife and I are looking to play. We are extremely new at this and would need to learn everything
