We have a gaming group that has been together for over 25 years, and use Roll20 extensively after years of muddling through a variety of other tool sets. We all met in the military and now that we have moved on to our second careers with families and are spread across the United States; Florida, California, Arizona.
The ability to sit around our VTT and connect weekly is welcomed. The days of having to drop family life; trudge over to someone's house with a bag full of munchies; coordinating dinner break, etc are past. It's nice to be able to take a quick AFK; tend to the needs of the family and get back to gaming. Often family life can interfere with spending all day with the guys; VTTs make for nice venue.
It provides the right functional capability when combined with a shared folder for resources/references/place to drop documents.
I am a Pro DM and love Roll20. I have practically never been a player. I love teaching d&d to players, dm's, and showing all the cool things roll20 can do. I use the same username across most platforms and am going to be making a curse server to start up a west marches style game. Anyone can add me on curse as sudolgend XD see you at the table.
I've been running a Phandelver campaign (and also some Season 1 modules) on Roll20 for the last few months. It definitely took a little while for us to get into the swing of things, but it feels pretty great overall for a group that can't get together at a table on the regular.
I've actually been considering starting up an ongoing Adventurer's League thread in this subforum to see about getting groups available for people, and the need for DMs is pushing me more towards thinking it'd be a good idea.
I played on Roll 20 once - it was fun - run by a friend who wanted to try it out - haven't played since sadly - but I'm interested in learning more and playing even one off campaigns though I wouldn't mind longer ones.
Just finished my first ever D&D campaign, it took place on Roll 20. It was a great first experience, especially as a PC gamer. Can't wait to find an IRL game and load up on some dice!

Hello folks! I would love to try being a DM on Roll20 but i honestly find the amount of stuff you could do with the interface intimidating. Can anyone recommend a good guide to the basics or somesuch?

I have played a few games on Roll20. Though when I play D&d normally (which is face to face with friends) I usually DM.
