Can we get some updates regarding implementing new functionality to the mobile app? It seems like there was no progress these past few months (soon to be years).
Keeping the app on phones / tablets right now, for me is a wasted memory space. Should I abandon all hope and get used to using the mobile version of the site?
I'm pretty sure the storage amount of the app depends on how many sources you have downloaded into it, otherwise it should be a relatively small app. If you're having memory space issues, maybe remove sources you don't use, or don't use often enough.
That seems more of an issue with your phone than an issue with the app as they have stated they're working on it. They are currently in the process of integrating offline character sheets onto the mobile app, as stated on their official roadmap
Thank you for the link to the roadmap, that's very helpfull.
In regard of memory space issues, i don't have any. My statemant was about the app being a wasted space, better used for literally nothing (more obvious: APP BAD, DUH) But never mind that ;)
Would still love to see new functionality added to the app. Based on the very poor reviews in the app store, I'm not alone in that. I would, at a minimum, love to be able to access character creator and character sheets.
Character sheets are coming to a separate app. For character creation, you can use the mobile site (seeing as you need an active internet connection to create and save a character to your collection due to slot limitations for non-subscribers)
DDB doesn't do timelines because they just tend to lead to disappointment. Less dismissively, they could set timelines based on current workloads, but then will have to react to stuff WotC gives them with little lead time, which pushes other things back.
However, we do know that they've got a dedicated team working on the character sheet app which should reduce the disruption caused by stuff like UA drops, new book releases etc
My concern is if there is a separate app that there will be another payment needed to use it. I have bought several books now. I would not be a happy camper if there was a subscription charge to use my character sheet in the app.
There's been zero mention of any kind of subscription or cost for the character sheet app. Just like there's been no additional cost for the compendium app

You don't pay for using the apps; you pay for content (one time payment per content) and subscription (monthly, only required for removing ads, using on more than 2 mobile devices, sharing content and/or having more character slots). If you buy access to a sourcebook in the app, you can read that on the website as well. And you can just use the free Basic Rules material without paying a penny.
On the other hand, it's way easier to maintain a separate app for character management than trying to build it together with the current app; not to mention the performance gains. If you think about it, there's a separate Google Mail, Google Sheet and Google Documents app for mobile, even though the content is connected; because it's better for performance and maintenance than having one monolithic app, where one change in one part of the system might cause issues in another part.

When will we have the app for Microsoft surface?
It shows it for me. You just have to scroll down a bit farther to Totem Spirit. It describes Bear, Eagle, and Wolf.
Any chance to still register for alpha/beta?
At the moment there is no test flight anymore. You can just download the app from either iOS or Android’s App Store. Search D&D Beyond.

Thanks for the information. Do you know what the timeline for that looks like?

We've stopped this OGL madness, but stay vigilant, they tried it once, they can try it again.
