"Lynny, let's go, put yer scribblin' away. Let's get this over with." He gripes.
She nodded excitedly, but held up her picture first to everyone. It was a briefly animated group shot of all of them talking together, like in the brief frames of a animated cartoon. She smiled at the work, closed her sketchbook, and joined everyone inside. She had titled it "New Friends and Adventure!"
INSIDE CANDLEKEEP
We handed in our books - the entrance fee, and were allowed inside. Bedecked in purple vestments, five Avowed priests of Deneir (god of writing) oversaw the front gates, examining and discussing written works presented by hopefuls trying to gain entrance, like us. We were quickly informed once we entered that we were now referred to as seekers, and could request the assistance of an Avowed adjutant who could acts as a guide and research assistant for the duration of our visit. (This guide has access to all the resources of the library, with the exception of the vaults that contain the rarest and most dangerous works.) Candlekeep was fortified by a fifty-foot-tall, fifteen-foot-thick, iron-reinforced stone wall with a double gate facing east.
Eralynn scribbled something in her sketchbook, and tapped Ysabell on the shoulder, showing you.
After we find Matreous, can we look for books on art?
Once inside, the half-elf listens impatiently to the rules, only taking mental notes of how severe the punishments were and what to avoid. "Yes, sure, let's find your friend."
He turns his head curiously as Ysabell mentions a mage before reflecting her own words back at her. Mages were fun to meet! And they could be useful, provided they knew much about teleportation.
"Know Matreous?"Ecko reflects in Ysabell's words, shaking his head.
"You truly have a gift with art Miss Eralynn." Ysabell replied warmly after seeing her living drawing of the group.
"Oh we're supposed to part with a book?" Ysabell replied to priests with a hint of surprise. Opening up her small pack, she pulled out a small journal that read "The True Works and Thoughts of Deneir" and handed it to the priests. "Will this do? It's old but I was told it's one of a kind so I've kept onto it for awhile. It's yours if you want it; I no longer have any need for it."
Once they had safely made it through to the Court of Air, a rather on the nose name she thought to herself humorously, she responded to the questions directed at her. "If I have time while I'm hear, I wouldn't mind looking through some of the books they have here Eralynn; I cannot promise anything though. And I see, you do not know him either... well it's no matter. I doubt there are too many sages named Matreous wandering around this keep so he hopefully shouldn't be too far to find." Pausing for a moment, she continued, "Perhaps I should ask... ah perfect Raastin!" she added, stopping when she realized that he had already asked a random passerby.

Eralynn's cheeks turned red.

Your book is accepted!
Raastin, you are pointed towards The House of Rest by a young sage. "Someone in there should know. Ask in the House of Rest."
"House of Rest," Raastin rubs his hands together like an excited kid in a candy store. "That sounds wonderful." He corrals the others and tells them of what he's learned. "Shall we?"

Eralynn looked to everyone hopefully, eager to explore. She twirled the crayon between the fingers of her right hand, like a coin trick. She nudged Garmus, bobbing her eyebrows at him.
"House of rest?" Ecko echoes in Raastin's voice, coming to an abrupt stop. He didn't want to rest, he wanted to explore. No matter. He shrugs, hiking the overflowing pack on his back higher up. Deciding not to filter through his array of voices accumulated over the years, he winds back the sonograph attached to the metallic raven he had put together with spare scraps in his time here. The little beak repetitively snaps open and shut as the gears within rotate. "I believe the house of rest is an inn for visitors of some sort. What a shame - the spires of Candlekeep are much more interesting! I hope to visit some of the more magically constructed ones. I wonder how they are supported. So little time, so much to look for. The house of rest is..." the gears wind down as Ecko swivels, one feathered finger pointing towards the inn. With some reluctance, the Kenku tears his eyes off anything interesting visible from the open area they were in. And there sure was plenty the curious creature's eyes could find.
This three-story bunkhouse in the Court of Air provides seekers with a place to rest and store their gear. The rustic accommodations include both private rooms and common rooms. In addition to comfortable lodgings, the House of Rest offers guests peace and quiet. Noisy patrons are directed to the Hearth if they want to continue their revels. The House of Rest can hold up to fifty guests comfortably.
"Greetings, Seekers. How can Maurice help you today?" a young man at the main check in counter offers.
"Of course." the attendant replies. "Let's see." he consults his appointment book. "Ah, yes. Matreous. Here we are. He has been renting a room from us for over a week now. Are you here to investigate his disappearance?"
"Disappearance? Oh that doesn't sound good. Hope they're not lying dead somewhere in one of your libraries." Ysabell began rather nonplussed. "Can you tell us anything about them?"
Raastin's attention is piqued. "Maybe this group will provide a welcome distraction," he thinks to himself. "Yes, let us investigate," he says out loud.

MATREOUS'S ROOM
Maurice opens the door to Matreous's room, but..it is unoccupied. He bows, and says, "I shall leave you to your work." and departs. Only the sage’s personal effects and a handful of books remain. There is an open book on his desk called The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces and open to the pages with someone's handwritten notes.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Chirping in agreement, Ecko follows into the room. Much like a gyroscopic camera, his eyes rapidly fixate on any fascinating baubles and eyesights they come across as the party walks forward, turning his head to keep eye contact with whatever momentary thing he found curious until the object was out of reach or the party moves forward enough so the Kenku’s neck couldn’t keep on turning. Needless to say, he bumps into idle chairs and furniture along the way - but all of that was secondary to fulfilling his curiosity’s desire.
Upon entering the room, Ecko spots the book. He lets out a surprised sound - one of a sprocket being unexpectedly blown out during a high-speed collision test with some energy generator back in Hupperdook. He immediately abandons all caution, excitedly striding forward and flipping through the pages. He was trained with using and crafting magic, and that is exactly what he intended to do here.
Raastin looks over his feathered friend's shoulder, equally intrigued by the book and its arcane mysteries. On one hand, his desire to learn more about such things has him excitedly studying the tome. On the other, his brain is quietly ticking away the value of coins such a book would bring for his father's shop.
"Interesting, indeed."

"Hmmm curious..." she mused out loud as she walked into the room. Completely uninterested in the book on the desk, she instead scanned the chamber for anything of note or a sense of how long since the space was last inhabited.
The room, while it's hard to tell, appears to have not been occupied for at least a couple of days, judging by the burnt out candles, and from the testimony from the attendant.

Maybe we could see his room?
"Yes what my friend said. Can we check on him ourselves?"
