I'm back and looking for players to run a Dragon of Icespire Speak campaign here on PbP.
But before creating your character, I'd like to say that I'm looking for players willing to discuss "session 0" before the game.
Things like: post frequency, encumbrance, and, ammunition, are all situations that I'd like to work out as group before the game and more importantly we can establish good communication lines.
From experience, if PC's aren't communicating openly with DM and each other, it can have a severe negative impact on pacing and immersion.
So, ideally, I'm looking for 3-4 players who all have no problem messaging each other as much as I'm looking for good roleplayers.

Backstory:
Anu was born within a sect of Yuan-ti from a swamp far from the Sword Coast. She was raised by an adoptive family after her father gave her up so that she may live a better life. She was told her mother mysteriously disappeared and as a favor to her father, they adopted Anu. Growing up in the hidden temple within the swamp, Anu made her living as entertainment playing her pan flute to the upper class. Around the time she was a young woman, her temple became occupied by half-dragons and other sorts of dragonkin as they were in at war. Allies to the Yuan-ti, they were accepted, but the lower class was treated so cruelly, especially Anu. One day, she was exiled from her home on instruction of the horrid dragonkin and so she was alone, stewing with rage against her dragon cousins.
During her time in exile, she started her own pilgrimage to seek a reason for her to live and revenge. This became evident when she came across an old spellbook along with a shining orb in a nearby tomb she decided to take refuge in for one night during a storm. Understanding the words, she became dedicated to become powerful and have her vengeance. During her pilgrimage of self-discovery, she has found a love in the form of a goblin explorer (though she had fallen in love, the goblin may not love her in-return..), has been on adventures, and has grown her arcane knowledge to be respectfully called a wizard.
Continuing her pilgrimage in the Sword Coast, under a thick robe to hide her more noticeable Yuan-ti features, Anu continues her quest of vengeance and knowledge.

Ricster was born as a normal kid. His celestial blood did not manifest until he turned 15. His eyes became pupil-less and golden. His parents did not know what to do with the transformation; therefore, they decided to take him to a temple in the city.

Until one day the bullies were atacking one of Steven's friends and enraged he fought them back, leaving one of the bullies badly injured and himself very scared of what he could do if he allowed his orc heritage uncontroled, so he left to a monastery that worships the goddess of peace Eldath to train his self-control.
Now after years of training, Steven leaves the monastery to test his training and help people along the way in his travels.

As a child, he got training in history and medicine, and eventually those became his Cleric proficencies when he decided to devote himself to Gezarian and heal instead of harm when possible. meet Kreios. a young, nervous (human) boy. he is an advocate of peace, although has a hard time bringing up the courage to speak up. he worries a lot, is constantly nervous, and dreams of changing the world for the better, although he often worries himself out of taking his opportunities to make a difference, and beats himself up about it later.
born in a small outskirts town, his town still had scars of the past orc raids. his parents died during the last one in recant times, and he had to grow up on the streets. while growing up, older people would often tel tales of how terrible the orc raids were, and Kreios began to hate them. learning of the orc raids also made him scared, never going outside the town for fear of finding orcs.
when he was older, one night as he lay awake under a bridge at the edge of town, a voice came out of the shadows
"don't trust the mayor [insert the mayor's name here]. he/she consorts with the orcs! if it weren't for him/her, nobody would have died of them. join us, and we can replace the mayor with a new one that will not hand us over to the orcs."
instantly, Kreios was wide awake. "yes, how do I join?"
Kreios joined the gang of bandits. he never wondered why they were all thugs, just did what they told him to, to help save the town from orcs. he felt amazing. after running from every situation, he was finally doing something to create peace.
Kreios worked as a spy for them, sneaking as doing he dirty work. one day, he got a mission to spy on the mayor himself/herself . when he got their, he found the mayor crying out to someone called Eldath for peace. he listened closely, and found that the mayor really wanted peace! he immediately cam out of hiding, and explained everything to the mayor.
a few days lator the gang of criminals was apprehended. a few days after that, Kreios became a follower of Eldath. after that, he traveled, looking for somewhere to help spread peace. although he is still nervous, scared, and an extreme worrier, he founf corkage in Eldath, and is trying to complete his life-long goal, to make peace.
Name: Sem Race: Reborn (UA)(being played as a fungal construct, born of a goblin corpse) Class: Druid (plan to go Circle of Spores) Background: Reborn of Decay (Custom: 2 skills, 1 tool, 1 language, using Undercity Paths feature from Golgari Agent) Backstory:
Sem was awoken in the sewers by Glen Boletus, a Reclaimer of the Circle of Decay. Glen explained that Sem had been given a second chance by the cycle, that he had been reborn for some purpose unknown.
Over the next months and years, Sem trained with the druids leaning their ways and recovering some of his former memories. During this time Sem became a Reclaimer, helping the druids tend to the gardens of fungal growths that help keep the city sewers clear and helping to treat the sewage to produce clean water and rich soil to be exported to the surrounding farms.
Recently the High druid of the circle had a vision of Sem leaving the city. After some discussion between the elders it was decided that Sem should leave to seek out and discover his purpose.
So Sem, equipped with some basic gear, is now exploring the world, looking to find his purpose, the reason the cycle didn't take him, but gave him his new life.

Personality Traits: I love the peace of the dark and the comfort of decay. I am searching for my purpose, I am open to exploring many possibilities. Ideals: Stoicism. All of us are part of the cyclical march of nature, which will continue with or without our consent. Bonds: I am forever grateful to the reclaimer who found me floating facedown in the sewer, giving me a new chance at life. Flaws: My beliefs about death and the cycle are unconventional by normal standards and this can cause friction in civilised society.
Description:
Sem is a little goblin with fungal growth all over his body. In particular, there appear to be gashes and cuts on his small body that have been filled in by fungus. His eyes are milky white, but he still seems to be able to see.
Sem is generally calm and quiet, unrushed by the goings on around him. But in a fight an almost sinister mood overtakes him. Thankfully this passes quickly when hostilities end. Sem is otherwise friendly and curious about the wider world.
Sem is a druid of the circle of decay and has an unusual relationship with death and the dead. To Sem, death is a natural part of the cycle and many forms of undeath are just another step along a different part of the cycle. Having said that, undead that refuse to submit to eventual decay or who are immune to it (Vampires, Ghosts, etc) are looked at as troubled individuals who are going to need help moving on.

Merah was always entranced by the sea from a very young age. The youngest of seven siblings - and the only daughter - Merah lived with her family in a coastal city. She was expected to grow up and become a soldier just like all of her brothers. But her heart belonged to the sea. When she was sixteen, she slipped off in the middle of the night to join a crew. One way or another, she was getting onto a ship and leaving town. And sure enough, she found a ship willing to look the other way for her age, so long as she pulled her own weight. Just her luck, the crew turned out to be a bit more... pirate than merchant. No worries. Merah adapted and took to the seas with an oddly cheery passion.
During a terrible storm, worse than anything Merah had ever encountered before, she began to pray. She’d never been one to really believe in the gods, but she just knew she didn’t want to die here. Nothing seemed to answer - not until a large wave swept her over the side of the ship. She regained consciousness on a sandy beach, covered in salt water and seaweed and with no view of her ship. Now she’s been roaming the lands, taking jobs and adventures as they come. She’s just looking to earn money to buy herself a ship to get back to her first love: the sea.
One thing that's been gnawing at her ever since the storm: she doesn’t quite know who -or what- her newfound patron is, and that scares her more than anything. She doesn’t like to let on that she’s afraid of anything, so she covers it with a grin and confidence she doesn’t always feel.

If Saltmarsh is in this setting, that's where Jasconius is from. He is a soldier/marine with a burning hatred of sahuagin and pirates/smugglers/slavers. He is determined to protect his fellow locathah, even if that means going inland in pursuit of smugglers and slavers. He has served as a marine for several years, so he is experienced.
This isn't set in stone of course. And I am totally down for using variant encumbrance (or normal encumbrance) and keeping track of ammunition. On the character sheet, I gave him a decanter of endless water for practicality, since he would die without submerging himself in water after 6 hours. But I can take that away and find some other way to manage that.
There's more than a few "underwater" or "sea" based back story submissions so I'm going to plan on including more opportunities for water-based interactions. That could mean ships but more likely means utilizing swim speed or underwater breathing for an advantage more frequently.

Cyril Embershade grew up in the shadowy alleys and backstreets of Waterdeep, stealing and conning money from the more fortunate. Quickly learning there was no such thing as honor amongst thieves he never trusted anyone and never sought out friendship. One night visiting a scholars study, contracted to steal some specific tomes, his eyes fell on a black onyx, the shape of a claw. He left with the onyx clutched to his chest, dreaming the same night of a shadowy ever-changing landscape devoid of light, and a sinister voice whispering secrets of shadow magic. He woke up later that night changed, pale and icy cold to the touch but with shadowfell magic coursing through his veins. It soon became clear that powerful people wanted the onyx, and Cyril, who wouldn´t consider parting with it, decided to leave the city behind to travel Sword coast. His sorcerous abilities growing by the night Cyril Embershade now seeks even more magic and the thrill of adventure. And adventure was never far away.

Backstory:
meet Kreios. a young, nervous (human) boy. he is an advocate of peace, although has a hard time bringing up the courage to speak up. he worries a lot, is constantly nervous, and dreams of changing the world for the better, although he often worries himself out of taking his opportunities to make a difference, and beats himself up about it later.
born in a small outskirts town, his town still had scars of the past orc raids. his parents died during the last one in recant times, and he had to grow up on the streets. while growing up, older people would often tel tales of how terrible the orc raids were, and Kreios began to hate them. learning of the orc raids also made him scared, never going outside the town for fear of finding orcs.
when he was older, one night as he lay awake under a bridge at the edge of town, a voice came out of the shadows
"don't trust the mayor [insert the mayor's name here]. he/she consorts with the orcs! if it weren't for him/her, nobody would have died of them. join us, and we can replace the mayor with a new one that will not hand us over to the orcs."
instantly, Kreios was wide awake. "yes, how do I join?"
Kreios joined the gang of bandits. he never wondered why they were all thugs, just did what they told him to, to help save the town from orcs. he felt amazing. after running from every situation, he was finally doing something to create peace.
Kreios worked as a spy for them, sneaking as doing he dirty work. one day, he got a mission to spy on the mayor himself/herself . when he got their, he found the mayor crying out to someone called Eldath for peace. he listened closely, and found that the mayor really wanted peace! he immediately cam out of hiding, and explained everything to the mayor.
a few days lator the gang of criminals was apprehended. a few days after that, Kreios became a follower of Eldath. after that, he traveled, looking for somewhere to help spread peace. although he is still nervous, scared, and an extreme worrier, he founf corkage in Eldath, and is trying to complete his life-long goal, to make peace.

Background: Reborn of Decay (Custom: 2 skills, 1 tool, 1 language, using Undercity Paths feature from Golgari Agent)
Backstory:
Sem was awoken in the sewers by Glen Boletus, a Reclaimer of the Circle of Decay. Glen explained that Sem had been given a second chance by the cycle, that he had been reborn for some purpose unknown.
Over the next months and years, Sem trained with the druids leaning their ways and recovering some of his former memories. During this time Sem became a Reclaimer, helping the druids tend to the gardens of fungal growths that help keep the city sewers clear and helping to treat the sewage to produce clean water and rich soil to be exported to the surrounding farms.
Recently the High druid of the circle had a vision of Sem leaving the city. After some discussion between the elders it was decided that Sem should leave to seek out and discover his purpose.
So Sem, equipped with some basic gear, is now exploring the world, looking to find his purpose, the reason the cycle didn't take him, but gave him his new life.
Personality:
Ideals: Stoicism. All of us are part of the cyclical march of nature, which will continue with or without our consent.
Bonds: I am forever grateful to the reclaimer who found me floating facedown in the sewer, giving me a new chance at life.
Flaws: My beliefs about death and the cycle are unconventional by normal standards and this can cause friction in civilised society.
Description:
Sem is a little goblin with fungal growth all over his body. In particular, there appear to be gashes and cuts on his small body that have been filled in by fungus. His eyes are milky white, but he still seems to be able to see.
Sem is generally calm and quiet, unrushed by the goings on around him. But in a fight an almost sinister mood overtakes him. Thankfully this passes quickly when hostilities end. Sem is otherwise friendly and curious about the wider world.
Sem is a druid of the circle of decay and has an unusual relationship with death and the dead. To Sem, death is a natural part of the cycle and many forms of undeath are just another step along a different part of the cycle. Having said that, undead that refuse to submit to eventual decay or who are immune to it (Vampires, Ghosts, etc) are looked at as troubled individuals who are going to need help moving on.

Backstory:
Merah was always entranced by the sea from a very young age. The youngest of seven siblings - and the only daughter - Merah lived with her family in a coastal city. She was expected to grow up and become a soldier just like all of her brothers. But her heart belonged to the sea. When she was sixteen, she slipped off in the middle of the night to join a crew. One way or another, she was getting onto a ship and leaving town. And sure enough, she found a ship willing to look the other way for her age, so long as she pulled her own weight. Just her luck, the crew turned out to be a bit more... pirate than merchant. No worries. Merah adapted and took to the seas with an oddly cheery passion.
During a terrible storm, worse than anything Merah had ever encountered before, she began to pray. She’d never been one to really believe in the gods, but she just knew she didn’t want to die here. Nothing seemed to answer - not until a large wave swept her over the side of the ship. She regained consciousness on a sandy beach, covered in salt water and seaweed and with no view of her ship. Now she’s been roaming the lands, taking jobs and adventures as they come. She’s just looking to earn money to buy herself a ship to get back to her first love: the sea.
One thing that's been gnawing at her ever since the storm: she doesn’t quite know who -or what- her newfound patron is, and that scares her more than anything. She doesn’t like to let on that she’s afraid of anything, so she covers it with a grin and confidence she doesn’t always feel.

If Saltmarsh is in this setting, that's where Jasconius is from. He is a soldier/marine with a burning hatred of sahuagin and pirates/smugglers/slavers. He is determined to protect his fellow locathah, even if that means going inland in pursuit of smugglers and slavers. He has served as a marine for several years, so he is experienced.

This isn't set in stone of course. And I am totally down for using variant encumbrance (or normal encumbrance) and keeping track of ammunition. On the character sheet, I gave him a decanter of endless water for practicality, since he would die without submerging himself in water after 6 hours. But I can take that away and find some other way to manage that.
There's more than a few "underwater" or "sea" based back story submissions so I'm going to plan on including more opportunities for water-based interactions. That could mean ships but more likely means utilizing swim speed or underwater breathing for an advantage more frequently.

Wizard. That's all he'd ever wanted to be. Using the very forces of nature to make the world a better place for everybody! No problem too big, or too small. And if he isn't have the right spell at hand he can always conjure the proper tool, or go to a place to get what he needs =) or something like that anyway. And from what he learned in a class project the Sword Mountains would be a great place to start, because of how challenging life itself is in that extreme far northern mountains....
