Her attack slashes deeply into the leafy creature, but it continues to lunge at her with two arm-like appendages.
Attack: 21 Damage: 12
Meanwhile, the drow's cry for help carries up and down the path to the ears of our other travelers. Her voice is suddenly cut off as the vines constrict tightly around her. She loses consciousness.
How do the others respond to a sudden call for help and then silence?
(Everyone, please roll for Initiative and feel free to post your first actions.)
Bramble hears the call for help and rushes forward. (Up to 30’ - DM’s discretion where he ends up) He would want to travel far enough to ascertain the threat but keep his distance. He will reach into his bag of river smoothed pebbles, draw out three and enchant them.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hearing the cry for help, Ryndar instinctively draws his long bow, knocking an arrow. "As I was saying..." He looks over his shoulder towards Helena, nodding in the direction of the noise.
He begins moving towards the source of the noise, scanning the tree-line for signs of distress. Perception: 5
As he's moving his lowers his voice, speaking to his companion, "Stay close."
"Did you hear that?" Helena says, whirling around and looking to the path behind them. "There..." She points to where a figure is being pulled into a mass of bushes..."
Moving past her elf bodyguard, helena moves back down the road they had just traveled, calling upon her magic. Speaking words of magic she gestures towards the plant-thing that is pulling a body towards itself. A shimmering lance of blue energy leaps from helena's hand and towards the plant-thing...
Essie blinks at the sudden cries before following after her companions. She gets as close as she can but hesitates before launching into battle. Instead, as her new friend Stigandr runs past, she reaches out and brushes her hand against his shoulder. A faint murmur and a fainter glow, and Essie casts Guidance on him as he continues on past her.
Essie runs hesitantly toward the action, casting Guidance on Stigandr as she moves by. Daerthe makes a death saving throw. Ryndar moves closer to the action, cautiously assessing the situation. The aggressive plant creature releases the unmoving prey from its grasp and freezes in place, appearing once more as a mere tangle of vines. (Perhaps it hopes that no one saw its attack or the fact that it didn’t move from its current location. It’s not very smart.)
Stigandr dashes toward the source of the cry, reaching the edge of the entangled roots and vines that surround the drow. Bramble trots closer, scolding the unfriendly plant. He attempts to hit it with an enchanted pebble, but it bounces off without doing any damage. Helena follows Ryndar and a shimmering lance of blue leaps from her hand and hits a tree next to the plant-thing.
Stigandr, Helena, and Ryndar can all clearly see the fallen drow, still restrained by the general spread of branches that fill the area. Next to her is a particular mound of vines that is holding very still, but is pretty clearly the source of the problem. A tree between them makes it harder for Essie and Bramble to catch all the details of the scene.

Ryndar's eyes narrow, noticing the Drow that had been apparently skulking in the brambles. Ignoring that issue for the time being, he draws his longbow, loosing an arrow at the bramble creature.
Taking a deep breath, Essie will charge ahead with the others, using both her full movement and the dash action in order to move 60 feet closer. Close enough to see the situation, but far enough to keep out of reach of whatever this vine thing appears to be. Seeing the fallen drow, she thrusts her holy symbol out. Using her Circle of Mortality, she casts Spare the Dying on the drow elf.
Stigandr moves up the rest of the way to the plant monster and the downed Drow. (A Drow! He had heard tale of a dark elf encounter among his tribe many years ago.) He will then take a swing at the creature with his maul.
Maul Attack: 18 Damage: 13
Also, per the Crusher feat (Once per turn, when you hit a creature with an attack that deals bludgeoning damage, you can move it 5 ft. to an unoccupied space, provided the target is no more than one size larger than you), I am going to move it 5ft away from the Drow, one square to the right/east, while still making it adjacent to me.
Essie charges up the slope to get in view of the drow and casts Spare the Dying to stabilize her. Ryndar fires an arrow at the mound of brambles, but it glances harmlessly off a larger vine. The plant creature now lunges at Stigandr and attempts to constrict him.
Attack: 18 Damage: 9
It wraps several vines around the barbarian who is now restrained.
Stigandr attempts to smash the annoying plant with his maul, but finds himself unable to get a good swing at it. Bramble moves up the path and casts Healing Word on the unconscious elf for 5 points of healing. He follows this up with a well-aimed enchanted stone that plunks the plant for 2 points of damage. Helena sends a Ray of Frost at the creature. This time, her aim is true and the frigid beam of light smashes into it, causing a frost shoot along its many vines for 5 damage.
The creature is looking badly hurt, but hanging in there. (Literally hanging on Stigandr…) The drow stirs back to consciousness, still restrained by the entangled plants that the main creature conjured at the beginning of the attack.
If the vine blight survives to Bramble’s turn in initiative, he will throw his remaining enchanted stone.
Attack: 15 Damage: 7
If his throw is unnecessary, he will give the stone little kiss, put it back into his small sack with the rest of his collection and rush to aid, freeing those that might still be entangled by using his quarterstaff as a lever to break the bonds.
Daerthe will ready her rapier and attempt to attack the creature once more, cursing on her native language as she wishes for even a sliver of the divine magic she had been able to call upon.
Rapier: Attack: 9 Damage: 11
Sneak Attack if it applies: 5
