Thunderfist checks behind and sees no sign of Dazlyn and Norbus following, but his keen goliath ears pick out the distant chattering of the two prospectors arguing at the temple’s entrance:
“My stone finished it off, that elf just pulverised the remains”“Don’t be a stupid old goat. If it wasn’t for those four, you’d be floating inside that thing and losing your skin by now”
Cackie and Elfa inspect the armour and wardrobes. By happy coincidence, they both recognise the symbols as those of Abbathor and inspire each other into a lecture on the deity that both informs and, possibly, bores their colleagues:
Abbathor is the Dwarven god of greed. He was an intensely greedy deity and was both desirous and envious of others' riches. Abbathor and his followers believed in the acquisition of all forms of wealth by any and all means necessary. Abbathor's priests dressed in red leather armor and leather caps. His holy days were on the solar eclipse and he demanded the sacrifice of both blood and gems annually. Such temples would be likely to guard any riches jealously, either with traps or monstrosities – or both...
Lei-Tana, finding no signs of traps, pushes open the south door and finds herself in the middle of a corridor. To her right (west) it stretches about 10 feet and ends abruptly, to her left (east) it reaches 10ft to a pile of rubble that seems to block any further progress; it might be possible to clear with time and effort.
Straight ahead (south) from Lei-Tana's entry point is another door.
Cackie takes another sip of air from his empty beer bottle. "Here Dazlyn, I won't believe we have stumbled upon the only two dwarves on this godforsaken planet who don't carry extra beer with them. Perhaps if you have some, I can interest you in a trade? My trusty toe scratcher can also be used as a shortsword, might save your life the next time you find yourself in trouble"
The longer Cackie went without a beer, the less sensation he could feel in his toes, his shortsword was of little use to him really.
"Lei-Tana, Elfa, Thunderman, I think we should split up for a while. Lei-Tana, come with me to clear the rubble to the east. I'm sure you must have some magical powers that could help lighten the load. The other two can either investigate the short path to the west or the door down south, I'll leave that up to you."
"If any of you find trouble, run back to this corridor and make the sound of a dying giraffe, so we know to come and group up!"
"Gregolas you look like you workout? what do you do?. Me and Diplomat, he's my best friend who's a bear by the way, love going on our daily jog round the forest and then have a refreshing drink of water from the clear lakes." Elfa said.
Looks like Cackie wants us to go investigate. "NO PROBLEM CACKIE, FEAR NOT! WE WILL DO OUR BEST. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES" shouted Elfa.
Elfa went down the short path to go and check what's going on. Elfa took a deep breath, this was nerve-wracking but Elfa felt her Father motivating and pushing her along. "Let's go Gregolas, I've got your back at all times"
Thunderfist felt a wave of relief wash over him as the booze-addled clown stumbled off. Although this was only short-lived as motor mouth was determined to not let there be a moment of silence.
"I kill people" replied Thunderfist to Elfa's question regarding his workout regime. "It gives you a great pump"
Elfa's love for her animal companion was endearing and it was hard to dislike her. "Where did you hear that van halen clan song?" Thunderfist asked. It was out of character for him to spark up a conversation, he must've got a concussion from fighting the jelly.
Thunderfist accompanied Elfa down the short path, checking for any secret doors or traps.
Lei-Tana begins the ritual to summon her Unseen Servant while Cackie sets about moving rocks from the cave-in. He determines that it could take him a whole day on his own to clear the cave-I, 12 hours with one person helping, eight with three people, etc.
Elfa and Thunderfist proceed through the southern door – no sign of traps – and enter a room that appears to have been the chambers of a senior priest. Many, many years ago.
Rubble fills the southern half of the room, out of which protrudes the half-buried skeleton of a dwarf in rotted, once-fine vestments. The elf and the goliath both spot the same thing at the same time – a glint of silver at the skeleton’s neck.
Stooping down to retrieve it, Thunderfist holds the pendant in the air, dangling from its chain, as he reads its inscription: “Greed is good”. It is a tiny jeweled dagger and is worth around 50 gold pieces.
"priests are dodgy aren't they" Elfa says to Gregolas.
"Well, in answer to your question Gregolas, I learnt that Van Halen Clan song from a very nice Barbarian called Fred. I needed a leg up to climb a tree that was holding my favourite fruit! I thought it would be nice to take back to everyone. Fred taught me loads of songs on the way home". Elfa said to Gregolas and looked at him with a smile.
Elfa looked at the shiny object, greed is never good she thought to herself, it's always good to share. Elfa wondered what kind of past this Dwarf had, she thought long and hard back to the history which could give her more answers about the temple and the Dwarf.
Elfa does a history check on the item and Dwarf in question
A few rocks into his effort to clear a pathway, Cackie immediately regrets his decision to split the team up. This is thirsty work and too much for one person to be doing.
"Lei-Tana, I'll leave you to your summon, I will return with Elfa and Sleetknuckle. I am confident that we can find a way through these rocks if we all work together."
Cackie heads South to ask the other couple for help.
The path to the west does indeed end abruptly, devoid of anything except a small pile of rocks where Cackie has been moving them from the collapsed eastern portion.
You set to work moving the rocks, clearing them from the pile of rubble and passing them down the chain where they are deposited in a corner out of the way. Around an hour into the task, an unseen pair of hands starts to lift rocks and help with the effort; Lei-Tana looks very satisfied, her ritual spellcasting complete.
After about five hours of hard work, you clear enough rubble to be able to get through the blockage and into the room beyond. It is octagonal, 25ft by 20ft, with alcoves in the north and south walls. The room has been sealed off for some time, not even rats are evident although the abundance of spiderwebs seems almost designed to compensate for the creepiness shortfall. The air in the room could be best described as...fetid.
The alcove in the south wall holds the rubble of a shattered statue, it would take some investigating to determine its former shape or any other details. The alcove to the north holds a statue of a dwarf with horns, which stares greedily at a glowing green gem in its hands.
Cackie collects a fistful of thick spiderweb and places it on his head, to give the appearance of a grey comb-over. His sweat helps bind it to his shiny bald head.
He cautiously approaches the Dwarf statue and studies the glowing gem. Whilst no one was looking, he gives the gem a lick (green is his favourite flavour).
Whilst everyone appeared to be deep in thought about the dwarf statue or licking it, Thunderfist strolled up to it and booted it, causing the statue to smash into smithereens and fly off in multiple directions.
Thunderfist looked proudly at the destruction and turned to the others and said "he's shattered"
The glowing green gem lay amidst the rubble and Thunderfist picked it up and held it up to his face to inspect it further.
Elfa and Lei-Tana are safely tucked away in the southern alcove when Thunderfist disturbs the green gem in the angry statue’s hand. Just as Cackie is leaning back from his tatste test, the gem explodes in a shower of glass.
(Cackie and Thunderfist both need to make a Dexterity saving throw: d20+5 for Cackie, d20+1 for Thunderfist. Anyone rolling less than 15 will take 19 damage, anyone rolling 15 or higher will take half that)
Thunderfist leaps cat-like out of the main blast and just catches a few shards (-9hp, down to 5). Cackie is not so lucky and gets caught flat-footed, taking a face full of blast (-19hp, down to 0hp and drops unconscious for the second time today).
As the smoke clears, Elfa and Lei-Tana see the two wounded explorers; one bruised and bloodied, the other horizontal and bleeding out.
(Cackie needs to make a death saving throw, everyone else declare what action you are taking. If you want to try to stabiliseCackie without using a potion, make a Medicine check)

Lei-Tana acknowledges that Cackie is going to find the others with a nod, and remains behind continuing the ritual.
Typical Dwarves, thought Thunderfist upon reading the inscription on the pendant. Maybe the dwarves will cough up some gold coins in return for this.
"You knew Fred? Freddie Van Halen? He was my uncle... until I killed him. Top bloke though." Said Thunderfist to Elfa.
Thunderfist inwardly groaned as he could hear the stumbling footsteps of Cackie getting nearer, the break was nice while it lasted.
"Let's check that other path to the West" and he turned around to exit the chamber
