Having finished the first arc of the campaign, the party lost half their friends to the Xanathar guilds soldier when rescuing Floon. After one player disappeared from this site I am looking for a fifth player to join us.
Welcome to the city of splendors. No matter if you come from near or far, Waterdeep is a city full of adventure. For one reason or another you have come to the city and found your way to the Yawning Portal, an inn for adventurers, whether if be to stay, to look for work, to drink, or to meet with friends.
I am looking for an adventurer of the second level to join in a treasure hunt across the city. There shall be a lot of roleplay, some exciting fights, mysteries to be solved, and villains to defeat. I would ask that you try to tie your character to Waterdeep, the entire adventure happens in the city and there are opportunities to join guilds like the Zhentarim, Xanathar's guild, the Order of the Gauntlet, the Harpers, the Lord's Alliance, Force Grey, Emerald Enclave, Bregan D'aerthe, along with all of the city's smaller guilds. The more attached you are to the city the better.
For character creation, 4d6 reroll 1s once for stats, you can reroll if you have less than 70 total or use point buy. Tasha's racial and class options are all okay, if you want custom lineage, I just want you to give a reason why you are using it over a normal race. UA content is generally okay as long as you check in with me, I just like warning when it comes to that. Level 2.

Olaerysis the son of an Elven priest and a young human girl, ill conceived but thankfully not thrown to the dogs. He grew up as an altar boy and a servant of his father's deity. He discovered at a young age that he had a strong sword arm, he soon learned to wield a battleaxe. After he learned that his skill was not with tomes and scrolls but with a shield and axe.
He enlisted in the City Guard, defending Waterdeep and the surrounding towns. On one outing where a village was overturned and destroyed in an orc raid, several of his close friends died and an atrocity was committed. His commander felt (incorrectly) that there was inside help and he watched as the half-orc constable was tortured and killed over an imagined plot. He vowed to leave the guard at that point and find his own way.
He now serves Helm, and uses his own moral compass as his guide. He looks to help with washing the stains clean of his beloved city of Waterdeep, using his own methods, albeit unconventional, with a set of newly found friends. He knows of Volothamp Geddarm (and feels that he is a braggart know-it-all who keeps trying to sell his books), but he does not know of Floon and would need to be brought up to speed. He is keen to solve mysteries and cannot let unsolved crimes go. He is no fan of the Zhentarim....

Found as an infant by a Waterdhavian fisherman and adopted into his family, Sorsha Fathomdeep had lived in poverty her whole childhood. As a child she was often found alone by the docks diving or just sitting mesmerized by the waves of the Sea of Swords. As she became older she started having dreams of an enormous tentacled entity in a deep sea palace. Eventually Sorsha was drawn into the criminal underworld of Waterdeep having a talent for stealing and conning the more fortunate out of their silver. One night she woke up from her dreams feeling compelled to go by the sea where the tentacled entity appeared and offered her powers of the deep so that she might serve it in the city of Waterdeep. Sorsha Fathomdeep has since been an unwitting informant to the Kraken Slarkrethel while leading a life as an adventurer in Waterdeep. And adventure was never far away.

Background: guild artisan
Backstory:
Born in Greenest to a smith, Eliakim was always bound to become one himself. From a young age he was curious about how anything worked. You could find him in the smith, and when he played hide and seek with his friends he often hid in a closet or something, with some new equipment he found to investigate the workings. He soon helped his father and mother in the Smith, first just giving them the right tools for the job, and later becoming proficient with Smith's tools himself he started to repair equipment that were brought in himself.
After years of practice he made himself some nice equipment so he could travel with the possibility of protecting himself. His wishes to travel came from curiosity, which extended beyond the non-magical equipment that most Smith's create. When he turned 20 he left greenest to Waterdeep where he practiced with various guild master's. Some of these masters used magic in there works, and here Eliakim learned how he could channel magic through his tools and became an artificer. After a couple of years he was accepted to the Smith's guild, 'Most Careful Order of Skilled Smiths & Metalforgers'.
During his first year in Waterdeep he found a place to stay at the house of a Dwarven Cleric, Bolfric. As payment for the room Eliakim helped Bolfric with tasks at home, eventually leading to a strong friendship between the two. Bolfric was a believer in Moradin, and showed Eliakim there ways. Eliakim became a believer himself and eventually learned how to channel the Faith's magic, learning some cleric spells from Bolfric.
Since than he has found himself a small place to life, close to the Yawning portal where he now sits drinking an ale and playing cards with some friends.

Backstory: Jechu is a son of the noble house of Eltorchul. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, has had all the best teachers, and has known a very easy life, comparatively. His only constant frustration has been his parents' constant nagging. Their plan for Jechu's life centered on him attending the Eltorchul Academy to become a powerful practitioner of the arcane like his father. Jechu has no desire to study the arcane. He wants to be the best archer in Waterdeep. He wants to be an adventurer like his uncles. Sure, there was that whole trouble with Lord Hund Hiilgauntlet, but it all turned out OK in the end ... for his uncles, anyway. Overall, Jechu enjoys his family, and he appreciates his parents very much. And, overall, Jechu's parents know that it is ultimately up to Jechu to choose whether he wants to attend the Academy or not. They just both wish the other understood their point of view. Jechu and Floon Blagmaar are sometimes involved in the same social circles. Floon is 10 years older than Jechu, but Floon likes to fraternize with younger socialite males in the hopes it will make him seem younger. Jechu doesn't really like Floon, but when Floon went missing recently, Jechu became intrigued and began asking around.
Fun fact about you: I started participating in shared story writing in the early 90s using Prodigy message boards and private messaging. I was in two groups: One wrote a story in the Robotech universe, and one wrote superhero stories. It wasn't like PbP in that there wasn't a GM, but we would each take turns writing part of the story. Everyone's characters were accessible by everyone, so each section of the story was long. I miss that when writing for PbP: We can only write our side of everything, which usually limits the amount we can write at a time.
D&D experience: Three years on dndbeyond (PbP)
Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: We began WDH and then moved on to one-shots because one of the players and the DM switched places, and the new DM didn't want to continue it. I think we probably stopped where you are in the campaign (right after saving Floon). We encountered a mind flayer; that would be the only "villain".
Backstory: from Everaska, member of the harpers. Trained at candlekeep, a scholar who was focused fully on learning all she could from books. more TBD but will customize to fit into campaign and other characters.
Fun fact about me: i’m a sailor, have traveled a lot and have raised farm animals.
dnd experience: new to play by post- but have been playing and DMing D&D and other rpgs for many years. I’m good at helping advance the plot, helping less experienced players in a friendly way, and an active, creative poster.
Backstory: Kester is a confidence man who pulled a con on the wrong man... the phrase goes “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” but apparently she’s not above looking for it there. His would-be-sucker made a deal with a devil to trick Kester into making his own deal with a devil. A devil endlessly entertained with forcing Kester to meet its demands. Kester doesn’t even want the magic. But it seemed so harmless at first. Now the devil drives... it won’t let him get back to his scams, instead forcing him to the Yawning Portal to take up the dangerous, dangerous, unappealing work of an adventurer.
Fun fact about you: I had testiclular cancer last year. It’s dealt with, I’m in observation, no biggie. But! I have not been able to stop laughing since I found out they offer prosthetics. I keep imagining putting a green light with a variety of sound effects in there, and just giggle.
D&D experience: (You don't need any, I just like having a variety of experience) lots! I’m in another game of yours, but it seems like a very different sort of RP. I’m looking forward to something involving more social interactions.
Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: I have, maybe 5 years ago? I dunno. I think the villain was home brewed thanks to a particularly chaotic neutral trickery cleric who got EVERYONE mad at us. In character, it was the worst. As a player, it was the best.
Backstory: Clink pledged himself to the Raven Queen, in the hope that she would empower him to fly and to pass that knowledge on to other kenku. He has joined the Emerald Enclave at her insistence, evidently with the rationale that death was a part of the natural, balanced order of the world which the Enclave works to uphold; the Enclave has heard reports of a disconcerting nature concerning the villain's activities in Waterdeep.
Fun fact about you: I have a knack for imitating bird calls.
D&D experience: (You don't need any, I just like having a variety of experience) Roughly five years

Saribel is one of those drow that never quite fit in in the society of Menzoberanzen. Having been born as the first daughter of her houses Matron much was expected of her, including becoming a renowned high priestess of Lolth to elevate their houses ranking. But Saribel found no love for Lolth, and very little aptitude for magic. She also found an immense appreciation for battle and battle tactics. While there are no shortage of female warriors within the drow city, her affinity for combat led her to respect and mingle with more male oriented crowds.
She did indeed excel in battle, defeating almost any opponent she came across. This earned her many enemies, but a few allies, and even a friendly rival. It also earned her a sense of ego and hubris. Saribel had made a reputation of never turning down a challenge, and even being a bit showy with her moves. She aimed to impress and often did. One day she decided to take on the weapons master of one of the highest houses, said to be the best fighter in the city. She believed she could take him on and at least hold her own if not have a chance at victory. The challenge garnered attention, and spectators. And on the day of Saribel found herself wholly defeated, and utterly humiliated within only a few short moves.
Afterwards she found herself on the receiving end of the worst punishment her mother had ever doled out. And in the days following found that even though her skill was better than many, her defeat had labeled her a pariah. And so like many drow before her, who had come to realize Menzoberranzan was no place for them (including a certain famed one who happened to be a source of inspiration and idolization to her) she left home, hoping to find more topside, and hoping to join the infamous Bregan D'earthe. So she headed for the famed City of Splendors - land of opportunity, fame. Also rumors of Bregan D'earthe in the city made it the ideal destination.
Saribel comes off as brash, but it mostly stems from very little sense of boundaries, and high optimism. She is or tries to be consistently cheerful, looking on the bright side of a situation, or trying to learn from it. She also tries not to look down on others, hoping to uplift and/or challenge them to better themselves. While she does like to show off her combat prowess, her showiness doesn't always extend to other parts of her life. And while her major defeat was a humbling experience it has not stopped her from taking on any challenge or going into it with a show of confidence.
Fun fact about you: In every apartment I have lived in (that I can remember so not when I was a baby) I have always lived on the third floor by coincidence. I have also always lived within 3-4 blocks of a fire station. Also I have a bitey cat.
D&D experience: About 3-4 years. Both as a dm and as a player.
Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: I started DMing it once with the intent to use the Cassalanters (as well as a mix of the others), but we never got super far.

In his uncle's study, he found an ancient tome describing a way to use the arcane with his sword play. He's now dedicated himself to this new field of study his parents had seemingly kept from him. Herwyn continues to travel and seek adventure to this day but he does so under the constant disguise of Mask of Many Faces. He has a perpetual disguise of an Imp in place. Until his ruse is revealed (somehow?) he interacts with others as an Imp.

Put your spoiler here.
Dennis and her little brother were byproduct of romance between a human rogue and Wood Elf ranger. When their parents broke up, Dennis decided to stay with her elven mother and moved to Highwoods.
There, Dennis treated woods, befriended animals and learnt the secret of druid arts. Her life would be simple and peaceful if she didn't know that her little brother Tim was in trouble. The boy was tricked, trapped and in deep debt with Xanathar's Thieves' Guild. Total of the debt is 20,000gp! Thus Dennis left her woods and went back to the unnatural abomination…her second home, Waterdeep. She must help Tim to return the debt all in one year. Or she will never see her young brother again!
Fun fact about you: I didn't have a name until I was 1 year old. Because my parents and ground parents couldn't decide what is the best name for me (and they forgot it until my first birthday)
D&D experience: Half a year on D&D Beyond.
Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: I have never played WDH.
Sarella was the child of a human sailor and some elf her mother encountered in a Waterdeep tavern. Sarella's mother was not a very religious woman, but one day her ship capsized in a terrible storm. Sarella's mother begged Umberlee to save her. She promised that her unborn child would enter Umberlee's clergy, if only she survived. She did, and when her daughter was born, she was given to the nearest temple of Umberlee. Sarella's mother would sometimes come and visit, but she was not there a lot, and Sarella wanted more from a parental relationship.
Sarella eventually learned that her parents had met in Waterdeep, and that her father was a Harper. Her mother thinks he may have been called Caelis. Or Aelar. Or something else entirely. She has since been following up on those clues, travelling to Waterdeep and keeping an eye out for the Harpers. And elves named Caelis, Aelar, or something else entirely. She is also looking to make friends, earn money, and spread the word of Umberlee (who really is not that bad as long as she is shown the proper fear and respect).
Fun fact about you: I have seen a shark in the wild.

Growing up as a foot soldier in a legion Wolfgang knew war inside and out. During a skirmish with another company Wolfgang was severely injured almost losing his right leg. Unable to function as a soldier he was left to die, alone and defeated. Wolfgang dying heard a voice speak out to him. “Even the toughest of difficulty can be over come with, discipline...”

Looking over the field he picked up a long sword to use as cane, he found a spot to rest before join a mercenary guild. He never over stepped or got emotional he did what he was told and then some despite his injuries. He earned the mercenaries respect and was a pillar in his guild.
He trained daily and begin each day with a pray to Bargrivyek, his god that pulled him from death. One night at the guild hall, a Zhentarim operative came looking for the lone Hobgoblin. He thought it was strange that Wolfgang was alone and asked why he didn’t join back up with his legion. Wolfgang just stated that he had no need for a legion that would abandon it’s soldiers. The Operative nodding telling Wolfgang he had a job for him. Something in Waterdeep was going down and all he knew was it involved a lot gold, and that there was enough for Wolfgang to form and maintain his own legion. “Hmmm my own legion... I like the sound of that...” Wolfgang thought as he accepted the Operative’s job.
Taking up the offer Wolfgang said fair well to his mercenary companions and set out to waterdeep. There he kept his cloak up and stayed out of folks way not causing problems and followed the laws. He found the Yawning Portal and booked himself a room. He intended to study the city before setting out and contacting The Operative.

Now after 6 years training through the forest in his travel, he arrived to Waterdeep determined to find out what happened to his real parents mindful of what he says and do.

Name: Saribel
Race/Class: Drow Fighter
Background: Noble
Backstory:

Name: Hadi Benotto
Race/Class: High-Elf Wizard (blade-singer)
Background: Noble
(brief) Backstory: Hadi had always been good at book-work, but often found himself distracted, and uninterested in the arcane. Sent to Waterdeep by his wealthy parents to focus on his studies, he's been staying with a distant uncle. In his uncle's study, he found an ancient tome describing a way to use the arcane with his sword play. He's now dedicated himself to this new field of study his parents had seemingly kept from him. ((happy to provide more details later, just keeping it simple for here))
Fun fact about you: I'm a part-time freediving instructor
D&D experience: (You don't need any, I just like having a variety of experience): Was DMing AFK until life got crazy, and have since been here on pbp getting my fix in.
Have you played WDH before: Yes... but both games I've tried ended before even the end of the first chapter :(

Name: Herwyn Urlos
Race/Class: Halfling Lightfoot (appears as an Imp due to Mask of Many Faces)
Background: Criminal/Spy
Backstory: One day young Herwyn had a case of wanderlust and on his travels ended up falling into some quicksand. The story of our young hero would have ended here if not for The Fiend offering to make a pact in exchange for saving young Herwyn's life. Herwyn continues to travel and seek adventure to this day but he does so under the constant disguise of Mask of Many Faces. He has a perpetual disguise of an Imp in place. Until his ruse is revealed (somehow?) he interacts with others as an Imp.

Name: Sarella Stormwind
Race/Class: Half-elf Cleric (Tempest)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory:
D&D experience: I have been DMing for about a year, and I played in one play-by-post for maybe two weeks.
Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: I have not played before.
