I know you hoped for 5 players and put the upper limit at 8, but how few are you willing to start with? I can post some today, but I have a business trip tomorrow where my ability to post is going to be limited??? So other than wanting to get started, it would be fine with me to wait to collect the whole party.
I have a question about focus? Is this going to be an undead/zombie/survival flavor? Or more like "Surviver" or "Lost" tv shows flavor? Or gritty grim dark kinda OSR hex crawl survival game, a little more cooperative... Rather than competitive?
The other questions were about equipment and resources? Being shipwrecked are we going to have our full kit? And being 5th level how much extra equipment do you feel is appropriate?
I have tool proficiencies but the standard equipment doesn't add anything like that? I have Wood Carving tools (specifically bowyer Fletcher's tools) to make bows and arrows. I also took proficiency with an Herbalism kit, and Medicine. So a healer's kit would be appropriate. And with Artificer I'm proficient with thieves tools and tinkers Tools???
*1. I will be okay with you being out. Real life is more important than this. I only need a few to start. 2. This is just survival on a strange island. It can be either one. 3. Everyone has 200 extra gold. If they want to, they can spend it beforehand on components and nonmagical gear. Each character also has every nonmagical tool they are proficant with that they didn't get from starting equipment, a healer's kit, a regular potion of healing, and 50 feet of hempen rope.*

Tren was traveling back to his home port, after having just completed a job as a bodyguard for his mercenary company. He was returning back to the company HQ to get his next assignment, when his ship was hit by a freak storm and sunk. He woke up stranded on this island.
im also aware my spells arent optimized lemme just write it off as his job being a support character for muscly mercs
Choosing spells based on character development and not optimization is just good RP :)

Characters:
Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
Subclass: Oathbreaker (Thinking of rping way to other Oath with Tasha rules)
Personality: Cormac is a disillusioned and angry dwarf that after years of war wants to find peace of some kind. While he is not the most friendly of people he still attempts to help those in need although it is hidden behind a wall of bluster and fake annoyance. While he still believes that the gods exist he tends to not think to highly of them as he feels forsaken by them. Like most of his kind he has a great love of strong spirits.
Backstory (near the end, write how your character ended up on the island): Cormac like many of his people was born in one of the many dwarven citadels that cover the mountains. His own family were mostly of the religious cast, healing other dwarves or bringing down the divine wrath of the gods upon their enemies. While he was going to become a priest he broke off from that path to become a holy warrior, taking an oath to take the fight to the enemies of his people.
For many years Cormac fought and bled for his people, going from one fight to the next as was needed of him. Slowly this wore him down and he lost his love of combat, seeing it more and more for the horror it could be as his friends and family fell around him. The final straw that broke him was the death of his own brother who called upon the gods only to seemingly be ignored, an enemy weapon finding his gut. Despite trying to heal his brother, Cormac's efforts proved useless.
Returning to his home he attended the funeral, packing his things and leaving in the night. Wanting to find peace he set out to find an isolated place to stay, searching for a local that would hopefully leave him to his thoughts. After searching he learned of an island that was said to be uninhabited, chartering a ship to take him there.
*Thread Announcement: Everyone above this post is in. As soon as everyone finishes their characters, the game will start. I hope this will be a great D&D expirience for everyone!*

I’m ready... bought 2 healing potions, alchemist supplies (which I’m not actually proficient with, but since I’m an Artificer it won’t stop me from using it... just won’t get the proficiency bonus ), 2 bottles, and some fishing equipment. Which left me 45gp cash left.
I also switched out my defense infusion, to let me have a replicate magic item infusion for a bag of holding. So I could ditch 70-80# + of kit into the bag of holding leaving me with ~40-45# of kit...

Just so I'm clear, we get the 200gp, any nonmagical tool we're proficient with (not covered by starting gear), a healer's kit, healing potion, and rope. Do we also get starting equipment, or is that assumed to be lost/misplaced on arrival?

Pretty certain it's all the standard equipment from first level and then all the pluses: the tools that you're proficient in, plus 200 gold to spend on things that you would improve over the next four levels from first level....
It's supposed to be a gritty realism, survival campaign you'll need all the resources you have, and we probably won't be able to restock very easily...
Okay I was wrong, I'm not done. I looked at an overview of the grit and Glory rules 109 pages.. LOL I think I need to read all the fine minutiae, and then rebuild the character to suit the modified armor and weapon rules which will take a little bit since I'm on a business trip today and will likely not have good access to the internet..
From the direction this is pointing, it looks like I would kill for a suit of Elven chain mail!
It's a hidden gem for Barbarians when it counts as "Medium" for the sake of Rage viability. All the strength of Heavy, but all the accessibility of Medium.
G&G is a completely modular supplement, so rules are meant to take or leave as the DM sees fit. If they choose, they could just use the more Exploration-based expansions. Personally, I love the idea of Realistic Armor with its multi-layered armor approach. Imagine washing ashore, your Scalemail is fine, but the leather tunic underneath is waterlogged, and you've lost both a gauntlet and helmet. Now you're short tertiary protection, and you need to strip off your protective mail or else you may risk environmentally-induced badness (rash, chills, infections, etc.) from wearing soaked clothes for hours.

Never mind, I found it. Are we using all options in here, or is the DM going to pick and choose? I didn't see anything i would be against using as I did a quick read through, though I admittedly only read through the sections that related to my fighter character.

If you're a wizard you may need armor? Gritty realism rules means a long rest is a week!!! You can't recover spells quickly, and you may want to maximize your Cantrips, because if you go supernova on some encounter, you won't have much in the way of spell slots for a long time... It's doable but playing a Wizard is harder than a short rest mechanic caster...
I was actually interested in the weapon and armor rules. I did 20 years of heavy combat in the SCA, and have opinions about what is realistic about armor weapons and encumbrance. I was strong as an ox, but was a Dex based fighter, and fought Florentine with two long swords with an overall length of between 45-48"...
Also why I was tempted to switch out my infusions to reduce my encumbrance...
