Personality: Wants to be friends with every animal she sees, but awkward and over the formal with people
Backstory (near the end, write how your character ended up on the island): Teased in her youth for her nigh lack of pigmentation in her skin and gray hair since birth, Tierra preferred the company of the flora and fauna near her home town. During her adolescence she took up cave and ruin diving which she attempted to turn into a career. During one such delve, she encountered a shrine to the nature goddess, Vestasha. Tierra began praying for guidance at this shrine becoming a follower and practitioner of magics granted her by Vestasha. One night she had a vision of an artifact and she knew Vestasha wanted her to retrieve it. Alas, it was not on this continent, but another. She did not know which one, only that she must sail there aboard a ship. So, Tierra hired onto a ships crew as a healer and magical food source. During a storm at sea, the ship was run aground and became unseaworthy with the one who knew how to repair it lost at sea, Tierra disembarked onto this new wild island.

If you're a wizard you may need armor? Gritty realism rules means a long rest is a week!!! You can't recover spells quickly, and you may want to maximize your Cantrips, because if you go supernova on some encounter, you won't have much in the way of spell slots for a long time... It's doable but playing a Wizard is harder than a short rest mechanic caster...
There are homebrews for converting Long Rest casters to Short Rest. It essentially just turns you into a re-flavored Warlock since there's a smaller pool of slots, but it still works. Still, with gritty rest variant, it'll be fun to play a LR caster and have to be very stingy with slots (Sorcerer dip here).
I was actually interested in the weapon and armor rules. I did 20 years of heavy combat in the SCA, and have opinions about what is realistic about armor weapons and encumbrance. I was strong as an ox, but was a Dex based fighter, and fought Florentine with two long swords with an overall length of between 45-48"...
Also why I was tempted to switch out my infusions to reduce my encumbrance...
Well hello there! 4 years of HEMA experience here (German Longsword, Poleaxe, and a smidge of Rapier), I can absolutely relate :) I worked with the development crew of Grit & Glory a bit a year or so ago and I'm really happy with the Realistic Weapons and Armour sections since they accurately reflect realistic weight, kit/load, damage, and secondary capabilities.
Stormchaser (developing user from a few posts back in the thread) worked extensively on the Harder Grit chapter. If you're looking for a much more realistic ruleset, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out the Realistic Defense and Wounds & Vigour sections. It works to treat armor as intended - mitigation of damage rather than flat hit/miss - and "damage" as more than just ambiguous meat points.

FYI, Apo has ceased development of G&G for the time being. He's tired of 5e and is currently concentrating on Pf2e content.
Despite me being co-author, the release link is attached to Apo's GMB account and, as such, there hasn't been a patch since August 2020. As a result of this, all of my updates to the weapons, armour, etc from the last 9 months are in SC5e, but not G&G, so be aware of that. That content has certainly been refined. Also, the hard grit section of G&G is very much a stripped down version of RDef and W&V compared to my full rules.

So do you have a link to your rules, because I am curious? I tried googling SC5e didn't hit anything when I scanned the list...
They're linked in my signature if you click on "Part X" and each section has a list of links on the back cover too. There's a lot of overlap with G&G, because one project led into the other.
Okay I was wrong, I'm not done. I looked at an overview of the grit and Glory rules 109 pages.. LOL I think I need to read all the fine minutiae, and then rebuild the character to suit the modified armor and weapon rules which will take a little bit since I'm on a business trip today and will likely not have good access to the internet..
From the direction this is pointing, it looks like I would kill for a suit of Elven chain mail!
DM, if we are only using these three items, then I think people need to be told this 100%. This means we are not using the armor rules, not using the other various grit and glory items, and we can move forward with the knowledge just these three specific pieces are going to be used. I think this game could be interesting, but I am worried we will never get it off the ground unless we all get on the same page of what is going to be used and what is not.
To the point above, shall we take it to a PM group so we can collaborate there?

So where and how are we running this PBP game? Is it going to be "hosted" here on DDB? Or discord with Avrae? RoleGate??? I figured Orange would send a link or tell us where to go?

There is currently a storm throughout the whole island. The winds are howling, the waves are crashing onto the shore, and the booming noise of thunder is louder than usual.

Dima is laying on his back, wings asplay. He just had the worst dream ever. He tried to rack his brains for what it was again, but all he got were a few bits and pieces -- a scorching heat, one which almost felt real; a tremendous fear, unlike that which he has ever felt before. And, possibly, what seemed the most important, a missive. The wording he could not remember, but its message was stuck in his head. This is your last chance. Don't **** up. Or else.
Dima gets up and flaps his wing for good measure. He turns his head to the sky. Not optimal flying weather. He starts to walk along the shore, as the waves ebb and encroach on his feet.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Shel Vanin is just happy to be alive. Being alone out in the deep water was terrifying. Shel never knew just how much he took the good firm ground beneath his feet for granted, until now.
Of course, he was wholly unfamiliar with this particular good firm ground. But no matter. He could figure that out later. For now it was time to make a shelter against the weather.
He drags his little boat up the shore, away from the coast and inland as far as he can, to some vegetation. There he will lean it on its side and use it as a wind break and wall, and build a makeshift tent from the surrounding natural resources, aided by his hand axe. Then he will rest, and think.
He had a bad feeling about this storm, the ship had seemed well enough when he booked his passage on it. He would never have boarded had he realized the actual condition of things. Craftsmanship is of the utmost importance, the ship had good bones, that was what had fooled him he supposed. But it had not been maintained properly, the repairs had only been done to patch things through. The captain had been a miserly fool. When things began breaking, he began packing, everything that would be damaged by taking a dunk in the salt water was stuffed into his bag of holding. He even managed to stuff his precious long bow in....

You are able to know the natural resources that can be used for making a tent.

Assuming I’m on the group.
I don’t care what rules we use. I’ll just do my best. If my character croaks then hopefully it’ll either be epic, or funny, or both.
