I don't know much of 'la Cthulhu' either really (thanks for the short summary above), though I will admit that this might be the bit to peak my interest to actually get a Lovecraft book and check it out. In the meantime, this seems pretty cool, so I'll throw my hat in the ring as it were.
Name: Fondak Jacurutu (still WIP) Race: Tortle (desert tortoise) Class: Cleric (still deciding which domain, and the two you linked above are interesting, though I noticed that Elder Sign doesn't have any Domain spells...) Backstory: Fondak is a devout follower of Shaitan, an ancient, and often evil god. Though followers of Shaitan are not evil themselves, they understand and respect the power these gods hold over their daily lives. He had been tasked at guarding an ancient site of his people until his world changed after witnessing the true power of the Gods himself, and has taken up on his own for the time being. Finding himself in Ventissa Fondak learned of the tournament, and the chance to explore for the ancient tower. Though quick to do few things, he signed up immediately, half out of a desire to learn what the world away from his desert home holds, and half because the humidity and smells of this city are something he finds hard to stand, so any chance to leave is more than welcome. (I might go with the Mythos Survivor from above, his backstory kinda fits it anyway, and it could be fun to use things outside the 'normal' that I'm so used to.) My D&D history: Started a few years ago already and was running a group live. But then life changed for everyone and I wasn't able to meet up with the group so moved to pbp.
(I noticed that Elder Sign doesn't have any Domain spells...)
Oops. Well, I guess that's what one gets for relying on other people's fan work. I will enter my own version with domain spells very soon. Thanks for pointing this out!
I have entered a corrected version of the Elder Sign Domain into Homebrew. It is linked in my OP, and here: Elder Sign Domain. I can't share it with the community, but it will be available to you when I create the campaign. Let me know if you can see this version as is, though.
(We can't see unpublished homebrew works, unfortunately, unless we're in your campaign. Ia Cthulhu, maybe the Outer Gods can.)
Name: Eurkan. Class: Monk, aiming for Way of Mercy. Race: Half-Orc. Background: Alienist. (I can't access the background as of now, so I used the custom background to replace it in the meantime, showing in the sheet the extra proficiencies, languages and so on given by it. For that reason, however, I did not add equipment yet. Obviously, neither did I add the characteristics yet either.) Backstory: In the spoiler below.
Eurkan was born in the monastery and there he grew for the first two decades of his life. Despite being a Half-Orc, he wasn't very strong, physically, and never behaved in an "Orcish" way. Rather, he was a caring and sensitive person, who couldn't see others suffer. Perhaps a little too sensitive. The monastery was known to be a place where people who had any kind of mental illness or were considered mad, would be taken care of. The monks tried to help their patients in any way possible and would do a lot to ease a person's suffering, but they have forbidden the act of euthanasia. One particular patient was in great pain. I won't go to lengths about this, but eventually, Eurkan decided, purely as an act of mercy to that patient, to exact euthanasia. For that, he was kicked out of the monastery, though he didn't regret doing so.
After that, he wandered around the land, offering his help wherever it was needed. Sometimes his help would be counselling, other times it would be mixing herbs into ointments to ease physical pain. Though it was always his last resort, he would also euthanise his patients, if he deemed them beyond saving. It was a great pain to him every time, but leaving the room he'd both cry in agony and smile, knowing he had helped another person find eternal peace. Though not all, most of his patients were suffering from madnesses or mental illnesses. For that reason, he began to study it. Not in an official place, but as he did his work, he'd often write notes about recurring elements in patients' stories, similar unexplainable madnesses or causes to them.
Being a wandering doctor, however, didn't pay very well, if at all. He'd often spend more on the herbs used to cure a person or on the place he'd use for lodging while in the town than he was rewarded at the end. Well, he didn't ask for anything either, all that he was given, was given out of gratitude, but not many people appreciated his methods when it came to euthanasia. Moreover, not all who look at a Half-Orc see a doctor, and many didn't believe he is, despite having a few letters of recognition or gratitude for helping past patients. Because of that, when he heard of Gehir Greencloak's offer, he couldn't pass the opportunity. Sure, he'd be unable to help new patients for a while, but he will use the reward later to help whoever is in need. Besides, several of his notes pointed him to investigate the Wilderness of Yilan. He never dared to go there by himself, but with an experienced group of other travellers, that might be a good chance...
My D&D Experience: I've played a few sessions that didn't go well about eight years ago. Then, a little over a year ago, a friend of mine asked me about it. Within a few weeks, we gathered a few more friends and made a group, and have been playing ever since. Considering lockdowns, however, we had long periods during which we couldn't meet and play, so I decided to try PbP. I do not regret that decision.
UPDATE: Since my homebrew entry is unshareable, I changed the link for the Elder Sign Domain to one that leads to an external website (5th Edition SRD). The version I entered is identical, and will be available in the character builder from within my campaign link when I start the game. For now, you can use the links here as a reference, and just edit your character if necessary when the time comes.
Note that I will not be using the Wisdom (Yog-Sothothery) skill in this campaign. This is an option from the Petersen's Mythos For 5e supplement that I don't think works very well. I'll be using the standard Wisdom (Perception) instead.
Thanks for the updates BobbyFrankenstein (can I call you Frank?) I wanted to ask if we are sticking to our character submissions or if we can shift concept of selected and there is a better fit for the party?
I was abandoned in the Yilan Wilderness. My family, if you could call them that, drove me out due to food being scarce when I was very young. Alone and hungry, I wander that place barely surviving. Then I met It... It taught me how to hunt, kill, and live in that wilderness until I was 15. Then I was captured by a band of adventures, they took me back to the city and taught me the joy of fighting in the arena. Strange though, I may not live in the wilderness anymore, but my teacher's voice still talks to me. Still teaching me the ways of survival.
I spent a few years playing DND 5e is my first one I've played!

Can totally shift concepts if needed or necessary.
I'm Jake, my pronouns are they/he. {~Ia, Cthulhu!~}I love this premise! I've been looking to play more (perpetual DM here), and just started an overnight job with a lot of free time for me to write, so PbP sounds perfect! I'm a queer writer and mental health worker, and I'm soooo happy you addressed the whole 'insanity' schtick, which is definitely not the most delicate or accurate way to narrativize mental health trauma lol. Seems like you're a thoughtful and compassionate person, which is 100% what I look for in a DM/fellow creator. I'm a lifelong performer and improviser, so roleplay is my bread and butter, but I also love to pull wild moves with 'underpowered' utility spells. I'd love to be involved with this campaign! Below is a little more about my characters, whom I already adore and am ready to see S U F F E R
Hew Cragbind: Level 1 Goliath Druid, Courtier background. (Eventual goal is Circle of the Stars, gotta get that astral flavor for some eldritch connections)
"On the muggy banks of the Semma river, a modest granite manor rises from the mud. Two tall statues stand guard by the subtly gilded front archway, their patterned skin and quiet, strong demeanor setting the tone for any who might guest in this minor nobility’s home. A generation ago, a few members of a reclusive Goliath clan who made their home in the low mountain pass nearby moved into Ventissa. Exploration and tourism had accelerated the Cragbinds’ need to move from their ancestral home, as well as the constant threat from the adjacent Wilderness of Yilan. At first, the folk of Ventissa mistrusted their enormous, silent new neighbors, seeing them as oddities akin to the tales of creatures from the wilds. But the goliaths quickly proved themselves as unparalleled laborers, innovative problem solvers, and deeply community oriented spirits. The druidic instinct inherent to Goliath culture is strong with the matriarchs of the Cragbind family, who offer healing, divining, and agricultural services to the benefit of all Ventissa. The might of their eldest child, a towering beauty named Shaness, has earned her great acclaim in the gladiator arena. Their middle child, Weck, is well-known throughout the territory for his piety and craft, creating elaborate, colossal stone works of art to adorn the temple of Bastet.
And then there’s Hew. The youngest child, the only one to follow in his mothers’ footsteps and formally study the ancient goliath druid ways. Much to his parents chagrin, Hew only studied long enough to gain passing knowledge of druidic practices, immediately dropping his meditations and rock rituals in favor of building a reputation as a fortune teller amongst the well-to-do of Ventissa. Hew’s flashy aquamancy and coincidentally keen insight draw a thin but steady flow of naive aristocrats and desperate workers, feeding his delusional and carefree lifestyle.
But the tides are shifting. People have begun to suspect that Hew is not as devout a druid as he appears, and he has caught word of a group of angry customers gathering support to publicly denounce and shame him. Rather than face the music, what better time to volunteer to leave the city and trek through the Wilderness of Yilan?"
