As Ned loots the body, Ben goes to the captain. "What should we do with the body? Throw it overboard, or keep it for proper burial..or perhaps a bounty?"
As Elwyn helps Flan to her bed he tries to comfort the terrified sailor. "You know Flan, you remind me of the pirate queen Morwyn Stormheart, the most fearsome and beautiful pirate captain to sail the Azure sea. The stories say even the undead of the Naelax´s dreadnaughts jumped ship when they spotted her black sails on the horizon. And you, my dear, faced off with a sea devil and lived to tell the tale. Now rest well brave Flan. I will go up and stay watchful but if I may I will see to you in the morning."
Cormac rushes over to the unconscious sailor and leans down, moving his hand over the wounds as he starts to mutter. As he does so his hand glows along with a few of the tools on his belt. He focuses and cast Cure Wounds to heal her for 6 hp.
Flan regains consciousness, opens her eyes and raises her hand to her shoulder and is astonished to find the wound closed up and largely healed. A bit overwhelmed she stammers a shaky thank you to those around her.
She gratefully accepts Elwyn's offer of help, and along with one of the other sailors, navigates her way below deck to the bunks and collapses into one, exhausted. She listens to Elwyn's tale and laughs; "I'm not sure I faced off a sea devil really, just took a spear in the shoulder and then collapsed. But I did live to tell the tale. I've been at sea for years, and never seen one of them attack a vessel before, they are getting bolder. Please pass on my thanks to your friends again. I need to rest now, but, yes, please do come see me in the morn."
Ned searches the sahuagin’s corpse for something memorable to keep.
Ned searches the body and finds the Sahuagin was carrying a rudimentary spear but nothing of value. As he looks he notices, attached to a cord round it's neck, the largest sharks-tooth he has seen, bigger than his outstretched hand.
As Ned loots the body, Ben goes to the captain. "What should we do with the body? Throw it overboard, or keep it for proper burial..or perhaps a bounty?"
Bos walks over and stands next to Ned and Ben, puts her foot on the side of the Sahuagin's head and pushes it. Satisfied it seems to be dead she turns to Ben; "Teves and Yamdum can't see anymore sharks in our wake...it was probably just a couple of young adults looking to prove themselves...they are getting more aggressive of late. I've heard stories of them boarding ships recently, but nothing on my own vessel. Chuck it overboard, I'm guessing it wasn't carrying useful." She then helps Ben and Ned haul the body over the side.
Bos makes her way round each of the party and thanks them, heads down to check on Flan and then says she will head back to her room but to wake her if anything else happens. She seems happy enough that it was a random occurrence but to stay alert.

The rest of the night passes slowly, but without further incident. Dawn is beginning to emerge over the horizon and the ship is beginning to get busier as the crew set up for the day.
After a while Teves shouts to you that you can head to the mess for food and the watch is over for the first night. Tortin is waiting to serve food, a mixture of bread, ham and eggs. He is beaming through his beard as you enter; "Well, well! Rumour has it you gots quite the tale to tell. Sit, sit and get some grub down yer." As you sit around the table he also begins to fill mugs with ale and passes them round. "You're all looking a lot better for a night at sea, yer be made of sterner stuff now."
"Splendid my brave Flan, I will visit you in the morning then, and perhaps I will tell you more about Morwyn Stormheart when I do." Elwyn says and returns to the main deck and makes sure Ben, Cormac, Ned, CC and Yamdum recieves Flans gratitude. He then returns to his post on quarterdeck pondering the incident and the glare of the sea devil. He was now taking part in one of his own tales it would seem.
In the morning, as Teves shouts, Elwyn heads for the mess and, having his appetite back, savors the served breakfast while recounting the events of last night making the sea devils even more fearsome and bloodlusting, taking special care to describe the heroic acts of his companions, swiftly slaying one of the sea devils, scaring off the other and saving poor Flan from certain death. Performance:16
When he has finished breakfast he carefully makes a plate for Flan and seeks her out. "Good morning Flan, hope you have slept well"
Yamdum clambers down from the nest and makes his way to the mess. Taking a plate from Tortin and thanking him for the excellent grub, he joins the night watch crew at table.
He compliments each on their contributions to the evenings adventure, including Flan. "You all done well. A proper guard as I have ever seen. That was good teamwork."
He listens to Elwyn's recounting of the evenings adventure as it waxes in embellishments at each retelling. He smiles and mutters "I like this one... a proper net weaver the way he spins a yarn and cast the net with his wit and tongue!"
Eventually, though, knowing the value of taking rest when one can get it, he excuses himself and makes for a bunk to stretch out and recharge from the night before.
Once Yamdum has rested, he will seek out Cormac about the possibility of a drop-net trap mechanism which might be triggered from the crows-nest on any boarding intruders.
Whilst you are all still in the mess Bos joins you, as Elywn is weaving his tale. Once it settles down;
"Thank you all for your help last night, if you had not been there Flan would have surely lost her life. I underestimated you all, I thought I was just getting some cheap protection from some wannabe adventurers...but you are more than that. I hear that the speed and conviction of your actions were impressive...but of course sailors can spin quite the tale... you'll make a good sailor yet, Elwyn." She takes a plate of food for herself. "I'm not sure why you are all heading to Saltmarsh...but the place is at risk of pulling itself apart. The folk who've been there a while want things to stay the same, hell they'll even turn a blind eye to a bit of smuggling if means a bit of peace. There's tension between them and the dwarves that have started mining locally, worried that it'll take the town away from it's sea roots, I guess. Then there's the new blood who moved from up north...it's black and white for them, they want to crack down on anything illegal. And there all for the new mine. Ah....you'll see it all soon enough if you haven't already... why are you heading there anyway?"
Flan is sat up in bed, stretching her shoulder when Elwyn arrives. "Morning....ah thank you! My shoulder feels like new...that magic is incredible." She sits for a while, rotating her shoulder. "You know, I've been picked up a few things, travelling port to port. Some of it is...interesting...but I have little use for it really. I'd like to give it to your party...as a thank you." She hands Elwyn a gray bag. "I've used it once...and to be honest it kind of scared me. I picked it up in a tavern, payment for winning some stupid card game because the idiot had no coin. I have no idea how it works, you pull something out, chuck it, and then an animal appears...I'm better off without it."
"Well thank you there Captain, but I was considering turning to a life as an adventurer. In fact I think we all are, as we are going to investigate this haunted house by the sea that CC is supposed to cleanse. Thanks for the heads up on the current politics of Saltmarsh but I guess we will be minding our own business if possible." Elwyn says to Bos.
Later, as Elwyn is handed the grey bag he is at first uncharacteristically speechless but after a few moments of looking back and forth between Flan and the bag he speaks again. "Flan...I don´t know what to say. We will keep this as a cherished memory of our first adventure, here with you." He takes her hand. "Now eat and I will tell you the full story of that pirate queen." And while Flan eats her breakfast Elwyn goes on to tell a tale of a daring pirate queen who bested all the men sailing the Azure sea. Performance:14
As Flan finishes up Elwyn bids her farewell and seeks out the others telling them enthusiastically of their first magical item and wondering if anyone would object to him carrying it around for now. After that he finds a place to rest, dreaming of fantastic adventures, frightful ghosts, fabulous treasures and fair maidens.
(OOC: Yey, any opinions on who should have the grey bag of tricks?)
After healing Flan, Cormac takes his leave to return to his spot by the the maganell, his crossbow readied to fire more then ever. He remains this way until the end of their watch, returning below decks with the others to relax and have a meal. "I'm goin to see if there is any work their and to see what else I can be findin. I may love ta sail but me real love if bringin about fine ships like this." As he speaks he slaps his hand against the ship and smiles fondly. It may not have been built by his family but he still appreciated a well taken care of ship.

Ben is relieved to have finished the difficult night, and gratified that he might at last be getting his sea legs. He eats in silence, exhausted and -- finally -- hungry. He listens to Bos, but his thinking is too fuzzy to really want to comment yet. When he is done, he nods to the others, his face gaunt then returns to the corner where his bedroll and pack are in the hopes of finally managing to meditate and rest.
Bos to Cormac; "Right enough, you'll find plenty of that work about in Saltmarsh."
Bos raises her eyebrows at the mention of the haunted house; "Oh that one. Aye, there's rumours of a haunted house alright. Many of the residents of Saltmarsh are downright terrified of the place. Talk of terrible shrieks in the night, weird lights coming from the place, aberrations...you name it. They say that a couple of decades back a crazy old alchemist used to live there...reputation was something awful. And then, just like that, he was gone. Tales of inter-dimensional portals, necromancy gone wrong...again, you name it. Anyway, it's a few miles East of Saltmarsh, we'll pass it on the way in, it's right up on the coast. Right, get some rest!" With that she leaves you all to it, and Tortin begins to clean up.
You all rest where you can, and those of you that had a point of exhaustion can remove it. After rest, you'll eat and head out for another night's watch. ((Same positions?))
Elwyn listens attentively to Bos´ story about the haunted house, thinking of all the flavouring he could do when retelling the story at some tavern in Saltmarsh.
The next night Elwyn would take up position on the quarterdeck, same as the night before. At some point during the night curiosity would get the better of him and he would stick his hand into the magical gray bag he got from Flan. As he gets hold of a furry ball he takes it out and drops it by the aft hoping to not disturb anyone. 3
As it lands it suddenly transforms into a badger looking up at Elwyn with friendly eyes. Elwyn is amazed over this fantastic bag and his new friend. "I think I will call you Bud." Elwyn says to the badger. "Now come join me Bud and we will gaze upon the Azure sea together." he adds gently petting the badger. Perception with help from Bud the badger:23 (use first roll if Bud can´t use help action)
During the remainder of the night Elwyn tells Bud one tall tale after another, and it turns out Bud is a really good listener.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Not having had any luck catching up with Cormac regarding his idea for a net trap, Yamdum, sups and take his station in the crow's nest once again. "Posts seemed to work well last night... May as well do the same tonight."
Yamdum scans to see if he can see anything more of the Sea Devil that got away ... Or anything else which might pose a threat to the ship.
