Cerlinde also looks for any remaining claws, or anything else moving in the jars. “That was disturbing… good fighting everyone. Ollezall, do you need some healing? . “ she says, as she is recovering her quill and parchment
Mohdrak gave an encouraging nod to the two little ones. He still had no idea what they were but they began to grow on him. He normally cooked by himself but he could envision himself leading a kitchen like this. It would be good practice.
'We're cooking for ten so we best keep it simple.' He clipped the apron behind his neck and back with the cloth strips. It was a different design as his horns could not fit through a normal one. Though lovingly kept, it started to show signs of usage. Perhaps it was time to go look for a new one.
He opened up cupboards and drawers and gathered everything he needed to make something from scratch. The easiest meal to make was to use the cured meat and sauté it over the fire. He did remember to also sauté vegetables in a different pan. He could not recall any of the others claiming to be a vegetarian but it did not hurt to be sure. Besides, they could use the greens to grow a little more.
'Is there a dish you wish to make?'Mohdrak asked Cumin and Coriander. 'Something of a local specialty or that you enjoy eating?'
As he moved around the kitchen doing the delicate dance of cuisine cooking, Mohdrak took mental note of all the foodstuff and drinks to estimate how much days they could last in the manor without having to ration everything.
"Oh no, master minotaur, we have no particular culinary interests, we live to serve! You direct us and we will be the best sous chefs we can be! I'm sure we can find whatever you need to make your favorite dish."
As Mohdrak rummages through the kitchen and pantry, sizing up the stores, he comes across something unusual amidst the seasonings. With his culinary background and interest in the arcane, he recognizes it as a Heward's Handy Spice Pouch, a very useful item for the adventurous chef on the go!
By his estimates, there are sufficient supplies to last their party for at least two weeks, as the kitchen and pantry are very well-stocked. However, he also suspects that the enchantments of the mansion may ensure that they will not have any difficulties with provisions.
Mohdrak held the pouch up to his nose and took a satisfying whiff. The pouch would contain nothing until he asked it to but the scent emanating from behind the leather was a delicate blend of sugar, which he found weird but rolled with it, spice and everything nice. Not much worth for the common adventurer but invaluable for the chef on the go.
Suprising as finding the pouch was, the discovery that he was sitting on top of a virtually limitless supply of food and drinks delighted Mohdrak even more. If the kitchen and pantry would keep restocking in perpetuity, he could experiment ad infinitum to create and perfect new dishes!
That would have to wait until later though as a different smell stung the nostrils. The meat was coming along nicely as did the vegetables. Mohdrak put the found pouch to the test and added seasoning to both dishes, then took it off the fire to let it simmer in the heat of the metal. Mohdrak was getting into the swing of things and while he waited for the main dishes to cool off a bit so they would not be presented scalding hot, he poured himself a cup of wine, both for the pleasure of drinking and to determine which fruits, nuts and cheeses would pair well with it for dessert.
'How are we on the table setting, Coriander?' He called out to the little bat while cutting a small morsel of the meat and tasted it with some vegetables. It was simple yet tasty. 'Hmmm, nearly perfect.' He could have done a lot better if he had known the kitchen and do some proper mise en place but all things considered, it would suffice. He reached for a loaf of bread and began cutting thick slices.
'Cumin, if you're done, would you kindly go fetch the others?'Mohdrak dumped the bread slices in a bowl and reached for another loaf. 'There should be five of them in the study last I left them.'
Cerlinde also looks for any remaining claws, or anything else moving in the jars. “That was disturbing… good fighting everyone. Ollezall, do you need some healing? . “ she says, as she is recovering her quill and parchment
Ollezall and Cerlinde cautiously examine the room for any further threats. While nothing immediately concerning is detected, you notice only one jar containing a bizarre creature that appears to be alive. It lazily blinks at you as you peer into the jar, using its tail to turn and continue to face you as you move through the room.
Syd blushes a bit at the praise, turning his face a sickly mottled brown. He reminds the others of the invisible wispy creature that was revealed by the lantern.
Cerlinde also looks for any remaining claws, or anything else moving in the jars. “That was disturbing… good fighting everyone. Ollezall, do you need some healing? . “ she says, as she is recovering her quill and parchment
"I'm okay for now, unless someone has minor healing; no point wasting powerful magic when I'm not gravely injured." Ollezall will smile. "Does anyone else need healing? I had a few potions of healing made up before I came to Cassandra's, or I can heal more serious wounds with my abilities." Ollezall will offer.

You hear the sounds of dishware and utensils clinking and Coriander's whistling continue. Coriander responds from the dining room, "Oh, master minotaur, it's lovely! Brings a little tear to my eye, it's been so long since we've had so many guests! Everything is just about ready."
Cumin nods happily and flits off to the study, then returns after a few moments. There is a bit of anxiety in his voice as Cumin says, "Umm, master minotaur, about your friends... they are not currently in the study, but there is a bookshelf a bit out of place. I believe they may have ventured off while you've been cooking with us!" The fluffy black cat looks up at Mohdrak from where it is laying on the floor and does that half-meow, half-yawn thing in the manner that only cats can.
Cerlinde's studies once again allow her to identify the strange specimens found in this perverse menagerie. The only waking thing in the room is most assuredly a slaad tadpole. Memories of her readings on the subject of Limbo and the disgusting biology of the slaadi come back to her. Ollezall is wise to take measures to prevent this creature's escape.
Syd holds up the lantern to assist Cerlinde with her examination of the floating ball of shifting light. Ollezall can sense the taint of undeath upon this thing and together, the two realize that it is yet another dangerous thing, a will-o'-wisp.
The two realize that it is yet another dangerous thing, a will-o'-wisp.
" I would most definitely want to extinguish this thing, it should never have been summoned or allowed to persevere in this world; however, they are somewhat hard to kill, and I don't want to endanger ourselves unless this poses an immediate threat. Cerlinde, could you see if you can glean anything about these containment vessels? Will o' wisps can float through walls, I would like to know if this thing can escape it's vessel without aid.."

Cerlinde says “they are quite dangerous undead, a lot more dangerous than these claws. I hope it can’t escape. I think it would have already if it could, but how it is imprisoned I don’t know”
Arcana check on the jar (while not getting too close). 19 arcana.
"Well, the crawly hand-things were able to get out of their jar," observes Syd, "So it seems a safe bet that the willie-whist thingy or the giant frogbaby might, too. If we aren't careful, it will quickly become the worst petting zoo ever around here."
(The DM's going to fudge this a little bit, just humour me! I only threw this creature in to give a hint about the function of the lantern, which I had thrown in as a fun reward since the adventure is a little light on treasure. So basically, don't worry about it, it's not a trap! Unless you roll a nat 1 while inspecting it, or something similarly unfortunate occurs.)
Between the last traces of Ollezall's spell and Cerlinde's apparently boundless knowledge of the arcane, you collectively determine that the will-o'-wisp has been placed in a kind of suspended animation. Some of the effects of whatever spell was used may have weakened slightly in the years since it was cast, but you believe (correctly) that the magic should hold unless the vessel is broken.

Finishing up her map, carefully labeled with names of the creatures, Cerlinde says “well we have one more unopened door in this basement, back towards the stairs. Shall we? And does anyone smell delicious food cooking?”
She leads the way back to the door we didn’t open yet down here, and says “Syd- do you mind checking it. We will go check out the food afterwards.” And gives a big smile.
Round 3 Up?
Wow, Syd! That was an amazing blow!” Cerlinde says, clearly impressed as the room shakes from the powerful strike.
focusing on a remaining claw, the red-haired elf wizard moves her hex and then blasts again- shooting a bolt of fire from her outstretched hand..
28 to hit
9 fire damage if hits
2 necrotic damage if hits
(had a typo in formula, when fixed got the manipulation tag, but in any case she misses)

Ollezall will look to see any undead remaining in the room Perception 24.
If Ollezall finds anything he will move to destroy the vats by some means.
