"My dad taught me everything I know," says Calantha proudly. "Your mom sounds like she was a capable woman."
The half-elf roots around in her pack until she withdraws some of her rations. She chews a piece of jerky before continuing. "I'm new to adventuring as a job...hobby? I was part of a mercenary band for a few years, but it didn't work out. My dad wanted me to become a blacksmith, but I'm just not interested in that, not right now anyway. I wanted to get out and see the world a bit before settling down, you know?"
Calantha looks at each of her new companions. "What about you, Ink? How did you get started adventuring?"
Crom isn't sure if he heard a bit of a shift in tone when Calantha mentioned things not working out with the mercenaries, and makes a note to maybe ask her more about that sometime. But before he gets the chance, the conversation moves on to Ink, and Crom shelves his curiosity for later.
"Yeah," Crom says, looking over at where the little gnome and his companion gazing skyward. "You used to tutor from what I understand, but this life seems like a big leap from that. I get wanting to maybe get out and see the world, but it seems you've jumped right into the rough dangerous world of adventuring for pay. I know I'd personally trade this for making a living buried in books any day."
Klurch spends a short time preparing the days spells, this consists of some time reading from his tome and a small amount of chanting in a sing song celestial fashion.
Crom drops down from the tree from which he had posted the last watch of the night and stretches the aches out of his muscles with practiced movements. "Alright, we've got plenty of daylight ahead of us. Once you are all prepped, we ought to head out."
As a wizard often does, Ink spends time memorizing some of the things written within his spellbook. After packing things up, he gives Crom a nod to indicate he's ready to move on.

Calantha finishes packing up her belongings and then she heads out with the others. With Crom scouting ahead, she leads Klurch and Ink, figuring if anything should jump out of the underbrush and attack them, they ought to attack the well-armored half-elf carrying a shield and longsword instead of a cleric or wizard. As she walks, she still keeps an eye out for any sign or trace of Gundren or his brothers.
After an hour, Crom turns around and whispers, "I can't shake the feeling we are being watched. Ink, do you think Master Po could hang back a ways and see if he can spot any pursuers? And if he doesn't, that may mean that if we are being followed it's by great enough a distance that we have a chance to make a false trail, double back, and set up an ambush."
Crom sighs.
"Worst case scenario, I'm being paranoid and we waste some time. Best case scenario, we capture someone or something that knows more than we do and potentially save ourselves weeks wandering."
"This Po, Small animal, Ink's friend? not food, RIGHT YES?" Klurch watches intently as the weasel hides in the bush and the group begin to move away from it.
Klurch listens in to the conversation, not hiding the fact that he is also interested, (Perception for the first watch 10 )

Crom begins leading the group toward the East.

"Yes, Po can stay at a distance," responds Ink. "Maybe one hundred feet or so. Anything beyond that will prevent me from communicating with him."
He sets his little familiar upon the ground and has it take cover in some nearby shrubbery.
