I am recruiting for 1-2 new players to join an existing campaign.  We now have 3 players left and the DM has come up missing!  So, wishing to continue the game, I am picking up as DM.  The idea is that the original mission has been slightly derailed (since I do not have all the details of the original). If the original DM returns, then we may just try to get back on the rails and continue on to find Stormraider Keep.  

Credit to the original DM, Fitz_Coulson, on the idea behind M.E.T.A.L.  (with some outright copying from the original campaign posting below!) 

M.E.T.A.L. (Magical Enforcement, Tracking, Analystics, and Location agency) is an organization dedicated to the preservation of land and people, for the good of the many. You are one such agent, dedicated to the cause, and have received an assignment. You are to go and investigate rumors of a flying ship descending onto small towns and conducting raids. (Again, THIS mission has been derailed.)

M.E.T.A.L. is a good-aligned organization. You get safe refuge, decent pay, free food, lodging, and other benefits. In return, M.E.T.A.L. asks that you follow commands. This team will consist of good-aligned characters. (Redemption stories are fine, as are backstories where the character was offered a position in spite of a rough past.  Non-good alignments MIGHT be considered if the character is otherwise inclined to support the good-aligned goals of the organization.)

Character Creation level is 5, scores are Point Buy, and any official or Critical Role content is allowed, in addition to Homebrew so long as it is run by me first. You have an extra 200 GP in addition to the normal starting equipment and three uncommon magic items, and one rare magic item. To apply please post:

(I would also like to bring this into epic levels, so if you're looking for a short campaign this likely isn't what you're looking for. And as we are trying to continue this campaign despite the DM disappearing, I think the players we have are invested!)

Departments:

R&D:
This department was founded by Dimble Timbers, the Gnome Wizard, so that as dark magics evolved, so could the methods to fight them and track them. As a part of the R&D department, you adapt on the field, testing out new and experimental technologies for the betterment and protection of the lives of agents.

Information Services:
Information Services was founded by Eltress the Connected, Elven Bard, so that they might stay connected for the purpose of gathering and collecting information on rumors of lost artifacts, ancient techniques, and lost secrets. As an agent of Information Services, you might be uncovering artifacts first-hand, learning secrets lost to time, or following up on rumors of magical anomalies.

Special Forces:
This Division was formed by Jacob Stronghold (director and main founder of M.E.T.A.L.) to train future generations to protect the lands and people. Having expanded into subsects, it has multiple divisions for the multiple threats.

Juggernauts: These specialized fighters are heavy hitters and make up for what they lack in speed in sheer force and power. Often wearing specialized suits and trained in many diversified fighting styles, these well named Juggernauts are a sight to behold on the battlefield.

Handlers: These trainers understand the power of nature and it's uses in battle. Training many beasts from messenger pigeons to battle wolves to assault Elephants, these trainers can raise an army from the wild.

Riders: Riders are trained in mounted combat ranging from horses to dire wolves to anything they can ride. Masters of moving combat, they have learned to hit and go while avoiding counter attacks.

The current party has Druids and a Paladin, since I am sure that will be asked.  The Departments represented are Information Services, Special Forces: Juggernauts, and Special Forces: Handlers. 

I plan to accept applications up to Friday, October 8 and to make a decision by the end of the weekend.

I'd like to offer up a character for consideration.

Name:  Flynt McGraw

Race: Human variant

Class: Fighter/ Rune night

Background: 

Flynt McGraw's parents were your typical village farmers in a town named Altus. Flynt spent his formative years hunting squirrels with his sling shot, playing in the creek and doing chores. For the most part he led an idyllic life until "the curse" happened in Altus. During that dark time lawlessness grew from desperarion. All manner of crimes began to proliferate. Cattle rustling, looting, livestock violations all soon became common place. After defending the family farm from raiders for the second time Flynt decided something needed to be done. He approached the towns patron wizard, Mirrodin. Mirrodin saw the conviction in the young mans eyes and after consulting with the town council presented him with a job proposition.  Flynt was to become the local sheriff of Altus answering only to the Mirrodin and the town council. Flynt spent the next couple of years honing his investigative skills by policing Altus and the surrounding country side. Just about the time when things were looking their most bleak word arrived that a great wizard by the name of Emporious, a former apprentice to Mirrodin himself, and an agent of M.E.T.A.L. had discovered the cause behind the curse that had plagued the land for so long. With the curse lifted Flynt came to the realization that if this could happen in his little hamlet it could happen anywhere. So he made the decision to seek out this organization and join the hunt for the magical and mystical so that no other towns would suffer a similar fate.

His alignment is lawful good.

(A good way to visualize this character is to think of a gunslinger in a spaghetti western only with a hand crossbow instead of pistols.)

Name: Blatheral Xorux

Race: Dwarf

Class: Artificer

Background: Blatheral was born into a powerful guild family that was mainly composed of artificers. Being a hardworking kid, he started to surpass some other guild members far older than him. As his competence was spotted, some other guild members attempted to assassinate him so he traveled to another village. As he traveled, he fell into a fey crossing. He wandered about in search of the village that he sought. As he did so, he stumbled upon a treant. Being an artificer, Blatheral asked for a part of the treant. The treant complied and handed over a piece of himself. Blatheral tinkered with the bark until he accidentally created a chemical compound that exploded. As it exploded, it knocked Blatheral into another fey crossing. Landing where he was before, he traveled to the village. The village turned out to be in the far future. Blatheral showed the way of the artificer. It was long forgotten until now. Blatheral gained the notice of M.E.T.A.L and was guaranteed a spot in the organization. Blatheral, being an amazing tinkerer, joined the R&D department. He has been working in the organization for quite some time. Now Blatheral awaits his next command.

Hello all.  I will probably leave the recruitment open for another day or so if anyone still wants to propose a character.  (And some previous submissions still aren't complete.)
