For a moment, you're unable to determine a path to your destination. Then, you get an idea of a direction. It points deeper into the forest, where the mist coils and twists low to the ground.
Can Neonine tell if there's something hiding behind the curtain of mist?
The guard Mavric scoffs at your dismissive tone. "Alright, alright. A man knows when 'is advice ain't wanted. Suit yerself when the ghost gets ya."
As you scan the area, you're not able to see anything out of the ordinary, but some form of mist seems to be blocking your perception slightly. It looks like it's crawling around the edges of the darkness, just beyond your lantern's reach.
You do, however, hear some faint noise off in the distance. Further into the woods. You can't quite make it out though, you would have to get closer to see what it might be.
Staring at more and more trees, the mist definitely catches Marq's attention.
He motions for the guards to stop and says to them, "We may not like it, but does anyone else see all the mist in the trees? Seems it'd be a great spot to hide. We should finally stray from the path if we ever hope to find this criminal."
Marq then casually looks to the superstitious guard, "Seems you might get a chance to look out for your spooky spectre," then says to them all, "So who's with me?"
Whoever chooses to follow him into the treeline he shakes their hand and thanks for their limitless courage. He wasn't about to let this bounty slip through his fingers so they cautiously make their way closer and closer to the mist.

Roll either straight CHA (if you want to be persuasive) or intimidation to get the guards to follow you. They look at you and then each other and have this look in their eyes like they really don't want to go.
With your perception, you're able to close your eyes and listen harder (especially now that the guards are quiet). You hear a scream coming from deeper into the woods, beyond the coiling mist.

Marq stops dead in his tracks when he realizes the men aren't following behind him. He whips around to face them and declares with a toothy, menacing grin, "Well are you with me, or are you Cowards? Now fall in line."
Intimidate: 9
If any of the guards do not follow him into the woods he belts out, "Bah! To the Nine Hells with you then. Bigger reward for me then."
The scream nearly startles him but he manages to keep his cool. Marq moves toward the direction of the scream, quickening his pace to almost a jog until he finally reaches the mist. His heart is racing, hoping his target is the one who screamed but also hoping to save whoever if it isn't. He pushes on into the mist trying to keep his direction toward the scream.
The mist is pretty low to the ground, for now. It looks like more forest is beyond. It doesn't look too out of the ordinary, so far just water vapor.
For a moment, you hear silence before you hear a voice in your right ear, whispering to you.
"Why don't you...go and find out? You're such a curious creature..."
Neonine will move forward in order to investigate whatever can be perceived on the other side of the mist while combining the four glowing stars of Dancing Lights into a dark vaguely humanoid form with unknown design of constellations etched on it. The shadowy form will pass through the curtain of mist, when the warlock woman will prepare herself for self-defense by drawing out her whip....swinging the weapon in the air to create slashing sound and trying to ignore the influence of the whispering entities.
"Yes, we're going to find it out as well as a way to get rid of your noble presence permanently....together."

"Alright, alright. No need to get yer britches in a bunch. We're coming."
The two guards follow reluctantly behind you, both have one hand on their respective sword hilt just in case any spooks might come out.
You don't hear any noise for awhile as you venture deeper into the woods. Even with your torches, the darkness of the forest triumphs your senses. Shadows, tricks of the light, jump in your periphery or a tree branch unknowingly claws at your leg.
You think for a second that maybe you heard something? And then...a figure with mangled hair and desiccated skin are what you see lurching from the dark.

A cackle echoes throughout the forest, dying out in a matter of seconds.
As you move further in, whispers invade your ears. As far as you can tell, they're unintelligible. Background white noise for all you know.
Chill air creeps across any skin exposed to it, and the mist invades your personal space more and more. It's knee high now, almost as if you were wading in the shallows of the ocean. So obscured is the floor of the forest that you can't tell if things brushing up against you are mere plants...or lurking predators.
Every now and again a shadow appears just out of the corner of your eye. Fangs? Claws? Fur? You're not sure, because the figure disappears as soon as you look its way.
You feel as if you're getting closer to your destination. It almost feels like home.

Marq grows curious by the figure standing in the words, in the dark no less. With his trusty shield on his side he brandishes his mighty flail and approaches the figure while calling to the guards behind him, "Halt! Stand your ground men!"
He inches forward a bit more before addressing the figure itself. "State your name! Be you man or creature?!" His usually loud, gruff voice travelling past the trees around him.

Intelligence: Investigation/ Wisdom: Perception 23
"Why do you want me to find the fey crossway? I don't wish to harm myself because of your inquisitive behavior, what if..."
Neonine will ask the otherwordly entity who sometimes attempts to take control of her senses and inhibits the effectiveness of her consciousness.
