"That is a good plan. I can go back into the mountains and find more edible flora for the tavern, and I might be able to teach the cooks how to prepare dishes similar to those from the feywild. As for our invitations, I don't have any particular preference for the order in which we explore them."
"I don't have a problem spreading the word." Veil says with a swishing of her tail. "I also have that meeting at the Yawning Portal to take care of as well, so would be able to do that while I was out and about anyway.
During the downtime, she will play in the tavern to try to attract crowds and build the renown of the tavern as well as the group. Her style of play uses prestidigitation and minor illusion cantrips interwoven into her performance to engage the audience- special effects, musical accompaniment to her playing. She mostly plays the lute and sings, but she also plays flute and drums.
"Hmmmm, perhaps each could go to their appointed meetings and gain information, then bring it back to the group to discuss where they may need assistance. I can man the tavern in the meantime." says the friar.
"Works for me." Veil agrees with a nod, her ears twitching in excitement to be out and about. "I'll make sure to mention the tavern as often as I can, helping word spread..."
Over the course of the week the new owner/operators of The Trollskull Tavern get their bearings within the alley. Some of the shops they have seen and noted in the alley are:
T1 - The Trollskull Manor - Home Sweet Haunt
T2 - The Bent Nail - Woodcarver shoppe
T3 - Steam and Steel - Blacksmith forge (armor, weapons, tools)
T4 - Correlon's Crown - Herbalist Greenhouse
T5 - Tiger's Eye - Detective Agency
T6 - Book Wyrm's Treasure - Bookstore
T7 - Sewer Access - because...
These are noted in the map here and as can be seen there are numerous other neighbors and shoppes in the alley, with which they may become acquainted:

Ms. Veil finds time to visit the Yawning Portal:
Upon entering the tavern, she discretely looks around, seeing much the same sort of faces that were there before. She makes her way to the bar. As she is just about to ask the Durnan if he can point her to Davil, she feels a large hand on her shoulder. Veil gracefully turns around, withdrawing from the hand at the same time. Her eyes gleam as she recognizes the half-orc she and her companions fought with the other day. Yagra grunts, "Hmm you're fast. Good. Davil said to keep an eye out for you. I'll take you to him."
She leads Veil to a side table, which happens to have an excellent view of the exits as well as the portal. Seated at the table, with his back to the wall, sits a lean, handsome sun-elf male with thick, flowing locks of golden hair. He has one foot upon a rung of a second chair to prop up his lute, which he appears to be quietly tuning. Yagra introduces the two to each other. [monster[Davil Starsong;Davil[/monster] gently places his lute aside, graciously rising to greet Veil. "Welcome!". He signals to a nearby barmaid for a round of drinks. "Please join me. I feel we may have much to talk about. Especially things which may be mutually beneficial."
Over drinks, he shares the following information:
Davil is a retired adventurer. He and his adventuring companions joined the Zhentarim a few years back. They help people in need. (More specifically, they provide loans, mercenaries, and other services.)
Another Black Network gang has recently infiltrated the city and tried to take over the Xanathar Guild. They failed, setting off a war in the streets. Davil and his colleagues want to end the violence and restore the peace.
Eventually, he asks Veil if she would be interested in joining the Zhentarim faction he belongs to.
Amotal makes his way to Phaulkonmere in the South Ward:
After asking a few Waterdavian's for directions, he easily finds the Phaulkonmere manor of the Tarm and Phaulkon noble families. He is a bit hesitant as he approaches the estate, expecting more of the typical urban environ of overwhelming stone and dead wood. He is pleasantly surprised when he reaches the gates of the property to see what looks more like a lush park; expertly grown to give the appearance of having naturally grown. However, he notes it must be carefully tended as it does not overgrow the estates boundaries by a leaf. Intrigued by the natural splendor, he enters. It does not take long for him to become enchanted, walking not toward the manor which he spies within, but rather, exploring the groves in the lush garden. While there, a simply robed half-elf male of middle-age approaches him. The half-elf inquires if he can help Amotal. Amotal tells him of his message. The half-elf smiles and informs Amotal that he was the one who sent the message. His name is Melannor Fellbranch. He is a druid who is employed at Phalukonmere as groundskeeper. He is also a member of the Emerald Enclave, ever on the look-out for individuals who might help preserve the balance in Waterdeep, both politically as well as between nature and the human societies. Word of a ranger having become involved in an adventure potentially between warring factions and having set up in Trollskull Alley. As such, Melannor sought him out and wants to know if Amotal is interested in assisting the Emerald Enclave?
Zera, inquires at the box-office over the tickets supposedly left:
The attendee retrieves an envelope from an array of square slots, similar to the message slots at an inn. She hands it to Zera who carefully opens it. The envelop contains 4 tickets, and a letter written in a strong, elegant hand: "Alas, I am sorry we missed each other the other evening. We did hear of your assistance to the Blackstaff and entirely understand the conflict. Your clear interest in assisting for the good of Waterdeep is laudable. As such I would like to extend another opportunity to meet, this time with hopefully a bit more notice. The enclosed tickets are for the performance of the opera at the end of this tenday. If you should come, look for me at intermission, Box C. ~ Mirt" Zera smiles at the thought of getting dressed to attend the opera and the delicious intrigue of such a meeting. As she muses upon how she will get her companions to join her, let alone properly attired for this event, the message suddenly seems to burst into cinders in her hand. The sparkling motes of ex-paper do not burn her hand and she is further amused by this very secret messaging.
Friar Xavier remains content tending bar and assisting at the hostel.
In addition this is how the party has fared in keeping up the Tavern:
Veil considers for a long time the request to join Starsong's faction. She knows her group needs aid from other sources, and sees an underground faction like this as a good source for such aid. Eventually she nods her head, her ears at attention as she does so. "I would like that." She says out loud. "What does membership with your friends mean as far as I am concerned? are there dues, tasks needing to be done, and what sort of aid can I expect in return, should something come up I cannot handle on my own?"
"There is no fee. We are not a guild, more of an organization of ... concerned citizens." He smiles, "Of course, we help each other, and can procure services and goods, which may be ... difficult... to procure via standard means. We would expect that you would aid the organization in this work, and from time to time, we may have work that you may do to help your fellow Zhentarim"
"In fact, I have such a job now if you feel up to it: Someone is killing elf and half-elf sailors in the Dock Ward — three dead so far, each one decapitated by a blade in the dead of night. Look into it, will you? Methinks the City Watch could use a little help.”
"Hmm, I think I have just the work for you. Outlying farms are being terrorized by a scarecrow come to life. It has slaughtered livestock, chased horses, and spooked farmers. No people have been killed as yet, so the City Guard is dragging its heels. Something must be done! If you and any companions you can bring with you can camp out in the fields, maybe you can discover and put an end to this entity”
"I can do that." Veil agrees with a nod. "With the current unrest in the city, I assume it is a good idea to keep my membership with you as a secret. It doesn't seem a good time to announce such an affiliation in Waterdeep after all."
"You catch on quick. Good. At the same time, you probably want to bring some friends along for this first one. Make up whatever story you need to. If you complete this first mission well, other mission briefings will be written on scrolls and delivered by flying snakes. If you need to contact me, come here. I keep a room. If I am unavailable, one of the others likely will be around and should recognize you."
Zera says 'well, all, I have good news, I have 4 tickets to the Opera performance at the end of this tenday. Would you like to join me? We will all need elegant clothes, of course"
((From Volo's Waterdeep Enchiridion, you would know that most of the local farming is down in the region known as Undercliff:
Undercliff
This area of rolling grassland and small wooded areas east of the city is a rural community focused on farming and animal husbandry, and which caters to travelers. It is also the site of a large and well-protected training camp for the City Guard, and a prison farm run by the City Watch (called Amendsfarm) where those convicted of minor offenses work off their debt to the city. Many gnomes and halflings live in this region, and most buildings are built to reflect their stature.
Two noble families have estates in Undercliff. The Amcathra estate is used for the housing and final training of horses bred in the town of Amphail, many of which are sold to the City Guard. The Hothemer noble house has an estate where its members conduct business in overland trade — beyond the reach of Waterdeep’s auditors.
If you visit this area, I recommend the Snobeedle Orchard and Meadery, owned and run by the Snobeedle halflings. They have a delightful drinking hall and a shop sized for larger patrons, and you can pick your own fruit when it is in season.
"That is a good plan. I can go back into the mountains and find more edible flora for the tavern, and I might be able to teach the cooks how to prepare dishes similar to those from the feywild. As for our invitations, I don't have any particular preference for the order in which we explore them."
