"Do you know anything about the old ruins we found?" Veil asks the farmer, describing the burned out home they found on their way back with the horses.
The farmer hesitates a moment while casting a look back to his wife, who catches his gaze with her own furtive look. He then continues, "Oh! You found that old shack. er... I haven't been out that way in years. That is just an old homestead. Probably belonged to an earlier settler long ago. We don't keep track of such things, around here... too much to do. Yup. Too much to do. You understand." He finishes this exposition in a half-cajoling, half pleading sort of way.
“anything you can tell us might help- we are wondering if the problems relate to that place somehow. We can’t solve your problems without knowing the cause..”. 12 persuasion.
however, senses that the farmer is eager to hide something.

The farmer is very reluctant to give much information and even seems to want to shoo the adventurers on their way, however, Zera's response seems to make him reconsider something... He turns to his wife, "They could help us...". His wife shrugs as if to say, "it's your choice, and your mess to clean up".
The farmer turns back to Zera, "That old shack belonged to the original owner's family. I think the family name was Cobblebottom or something like it. They used to own a lot of the land around here, but now, most of their land is in the hands of others. They haven't lived in that house in generations. That shack was a ruin when we bought the land. Come to think on it, I don't even think any of them are alive any more... but people used to say there was something off about them."
Listening in Veil frowns and her tail switches in agitation. Once the farmer is done speaking she glances to the others. "Maybe tomorrow we should visit that shack and see what we can learn there. For now we likely need to get back to town." (assuming it is afternoon by this point, if not then ignore the going back to town.)
The day drawing on, and realizing the distance they still needed to travel, the adventurers bid farewell to the farmer with the intent to return upon the morning to look further into this mystery.
It being later in the day, they pass the Snobeedle Orchard and Meadery as they are getting hungry. The sweet smell of the orchard allures their senses, especially their appetites. Yet it is already late and they have still a stretch before they get back to the Dock Ward.
"We can get food and drink at the taverns in the Dock Ward." Veil reminds the others as she continues towards the city. She does look a bit longingly towards the smells though, as she knows the tavern food is not going to be as good as what they are currently smelling.
The party continues as the afternoon sun starts its odd tilt in the sky - the autumn golden angle of light just starting to become more prevalent this ten-day.
They make their way down again to the southern gate and from there to the Dock Ward. The early evening along the docks further underscores how the fate of those of elvish blood are making themselves scarce. The party does not even see any half-elves and Amotal gets quite a few looks of astonishment that he should go so freely about. As the sun sinks into the sea, and their thirst and hunger rises, the party finds itself near the intersection of Fish and Ship Streets. Nearby establishments include a dive bar called the Thirsty Sailor, a tavern titled the Muleskull Tavern, an inn named The Ship's Prow, and what, by all indications appears to be a brothel, called The Laughing Lass.
While the party lingers on the street, taking a highly measured approach to deciding where to sup, a drunk half-elf sailor stumbles out of the Muleskull Tavern, clinging to the wall as he wobbles down the street.
“Muleskull sounds fine to me- maybe we should ask that guy? He reminds me of a song… .” Zera replies. She approaches the sailor “ahoy there! Are you ok to walk home- or back to your ship?”
“I’ll follow him and check- you guys watch me in case it’s a set up”. zera says. She proceeds after the drunk. “Hey- are you OK?” She says a little louder
The party follows the sailor, not taking any efforts to hide this from any who may be watching.
Zera's address appears to penetrate the fog of ale the sailor has drunken himself into. He starts to turn around to see who is yelling at him. As he does so, a flash of steel arcs out from the dark aimed to decapitate him.

“Hey! Stop! Attack!” Zera cries out. (Upon seeing a drow she won’t cast sleep!) editing
she casts hex at the drow and then eldritch blast for 8 to hit and 5 force plus 6 hex necrotic damage, grants him disadvantage on dexterity checks. (Should suck for a sneaky type)

“We should probably press on for the dock ward” zera says, picking up her pace a bit. “Maybe I can score some coin to help pay for our meal.”
