Liza looks over everyone who is nearby, before her eyes settle on the Dragonborn. "You seem quite knowledgeable about this festival, yet you say you've never gone? Fascinating."
Liza is a somewhat tall Half-Elf woman with golden hair cascading down her back. She holds herself confidently, not letting anything escape her sights.
"By the way, I am Liza. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Moira doesn’t notice Juniper’s precise greeting as she shakes her hand much longer than three count. She has a sure grip and her hands are a bit worn. She is obviously not unfamiliar with some manual labor though it’s probably not her only activity. She at last breaks the hand shake at the mention of books. “Ohh you like to read?! It’s what I loved most at home. I was sad to leave my books behind. But that’s no bother when a life of adventure awaits. It sounds like you took to history books more. I tried one once. It was so boring. I thought for sure they would tell of all the adventures had but it was all about dates and places and facts. It never said how it felt to be there. My favorites were always the grand adventures. Heroes fighting evil, finding amazing treasure, following their destinies. Any ways that’s why I left home and all my books behind. I’m training to be a wizard!” She finally stops though it’s unclear if she actually ran out of breath or is hoping to get a reaction from that last bit of tale.
Zendry starts writing as soon as Vorexx speaks, in a fast scrawl that's nearly indecipherable to others. While still writing, he replies "Interesting. So you are a long way from home then. Did you come all this way just to visit the festival, or had you traveled here for other business? How does this festival compare to celebrations you might have had near your home? Um...". He pauses as he seems to realize others are a part of the conversation, particularly Rum leaning over his shoulder, and finishes, "Perhaps on the way we could discuss more? I'd like to hear more about where you come from, and perhaps your impressions both before and after actually seeing the festivities."
Vorexx felt a bit more comfortable now that someone had brought up the topic of books and reading. “Yes, I adore reading. I spent most of my life either building houses and furniture in my village or reading whatever books and scrolls I could find. One day I came across an ancient arcane diary of sorts which sparked something in me, a new source of power. Not just knowledge, but true power to shape things around me through magic. It was then that I realized I must set out upon the world to seek other sources of wisdom that might help me fulfill my dream of becoming... “ He puffed up his chest a little, right as he was about to finish his sentence, but quickly caught himself, realizing he had said a bit too much. “... uh, very wise.”
Shifting focus away from himself, Vorexx inquired with a noticeable grin “So Moira, you're a wizard, hmm? Perhaps we could compare notes sometime?”
Juniper also turns to Vorexx, smiling encouragingly as he seems unaccustomed to the attention, and listens with interest as he describes the festival, and adds, “yes, please do,” at the request to draw gems. Possessing a steady hand, she liked to watch people put quill to parchment, partly because that kind of knowledge — learning from books — was so foreign to her intrinsic knowing of the natural world.
She comments to Liza, “Your hair is so beautiful,” while following Moira’s words attentively. “My parents were…are…adventurers. It certainly seems to be fun, I guess until you have kids and can’t adventure anymore. Do you believe in destiny? I’m not sure I do,” she says, but her tone indicates otherwise.

Rum listens to everyone's talk of books and learning and gaining wisdom. "Enlightenment cannot be found in solitude or books or quiet places. The Cat Lord says so!" he says emphatically. "Those who seek adventure and noisy places have the right of it I am sure", he adds before his eyes light up. "We should adventure to the festival together, yes?" he says sweeping his paw out to encompass all the others.
Slightly confused, but willing to go along with it after being requests from both Rum and Juniper, Zendry draws a quick sketch of a couple gems in the margin of his notebook. It's more diagram than artistic, and he annotates it with Asked to draw this by other travelers on the way to the festival. Symbolic significance for the health of the mine?
Still writing, he addresses Moira, "I'm surprised you left your books behind to be a wizard, I've found that research is a big part of practicing the arcane arts. Are you studying any school or type of magic specifically?"
Jett watches somewhat suspiciously as the group gathers around her and the elf called Juniper. As the talk turned to books, she got goosebumps recalling all the time she had spent in the library at home. She had read so many. History, songs, geography, tales. She sighed.
Gems! They mine gems here! She quietly smiled to her self. Interesting.
”My name is Jett” she announced, “and this is my first Keggeroff Festival”.
To Rum’s invitation ("We should adventure to the festival together, yes?"), Juniper at first assumes he’s speaking to everyone but her. Her thoughts race.
‘It’s probably very grand. An adventure, like Moira just said. In fact…,’ she reflects upon memories from long ago, ‘I think I may have gone once when I was little.’ Finally at the front of the line, Juniper fills her waterskin, her thoughts speeding.
She casts about at the others, who seem so forthright and knowledgeable, and to embody a whole world beyond her humble roamings.
“But…yes I’d like to come too!,” she finally forces herself to say, and it comes out in a rush, “I just need to get Foxglove! Please wait just a minute!,” and she steps gracefully to the edge of the clearing and unties a handsome, blue-eyed cream-coated pony to whose saddle a wooden shield and longbow are fastened.
“I’m ready!,” she beams.

"This is excellent", Rum says counting the group. "Seven of us, which is a very aus...pish...us number", he says, struggling with the word auspicious as if he is repeating something he had heard before. "Assuming we don't include Foxglove of course", he adds bounding over to the pony and ruffling its mane.
The day's harmony is suddenly disrupted as you see a elderly human woman in distress... it seems a group of rough looking individuals have decided not to wait their turn and take her waterskins.
Juniper is about to ask Rum if she can touch his coat when she notices the theft. She rushes to the elederly woman’s side, picks or props her up, placing herself squarely between her and the ruffians, and shouts to the rough-looking individuals, “What are you thinking, you hay-for-brains?!? Why can’t you wait your turn like everyone else?”
“Are you okay nanna?,” she asks the older woman, compassionately.

Vorexx, being used to life in a small village where everyone respected each other, was immediately stricken with a desire to use his new gifts of magic to right the injustice he was witnessing. However, not wanting to draw the attention of the bandits, he hid his hand behind the shield he carried before weaving the arcane movements that would create the desired effects. He waited to see if his new companions would act, so he didn't accidentally target them.
Rum watches Juniper rush over to the elderly lady and sees what the group have done. Quick as a flash he darts over to flank the lady on the other side to Juniper. "Oh no. Oh no no no. This will not do", he says, shaking his head. "You will be giving the nice lady her waterskins back now", he adds matter of factly, with narrowed eyes.
Zendry's first reaction is to document this interaction, and he gets several lines down before realizing belatedly that he should probably be ready to defend himself, or even aid his new companions, if there is the possibility of trouble.
He shoves book, ink, and quill quickly into his pack before looking around for his staff. It's a dozen feet away leaning against the well, where he put it while filling his waterskin. With a quick gesture and a couple arcane words he manifests a mage hand and whisks the staff to him. Then he turns back and concentrates on the unfolding events, trying to remember as much as possible so he can write it all down later.
