On Ascencia, every corner of the realm is the ruin of one very large, expansive cityscape. Among every plain, forest and plateau, you can find abandoned buildings that, while covered in the decay and growth of a millenias worth of neglect, are still standing. The air itself seems to shimmer at the edges of your perception, with light and color distorting along the outline of objects in the distance. This is the phenomenon known as Steam. No one knows what it is, or even how it works. What they do know is that a large part of the planets population is incapable of surviving prolonged exposure to it. It's thus that most people live in vast, protected areas called Ring Cities, relying on the ancient technology that generates barriers to keep Steam out. Most spend their entire lives in the Rings, never seeing the wilderness that lies just beyond the wall of light at the periphery. You are not one of those people. You were born as one of the Marked, your resistance to the effects of Steam granted to you seemingly at random. You are scorned by the citizens of the ring for the spiral shaped birthmark and the freedom you were granted alongside it, but those same people that fear and distrust you rely on you to seek out lost technology among the ruins outside. You make your living going places that most people can't, and every day outside the walls is a day spent walking on knifes edge. Mutated creatures, areas of concentrated Steam capable of overwhelming your bodies natural defenses, and the remnants of an ancient civilization are among the dangers you face.
Greetings everyone! I’m looking for three or four adventurers looking to travel through my high magic/post apocalypse homebrew setting. This game will be equal parts combat, exploration, survival and roleplay. This game will be played in Discord text channels, with Roll20 used for any skill checks and combat. The expectation is minimum one post per day, though if you can’t post, just let me know. We will work out default behavior for each member of the group which I will enforce to keep the game moving if someone is inactive.
About me: I’ve been playing and DMing across multiple systems for the past decade and a half. I play by the rules in most cases but have been known to allow extra things to happen for the sake of the “rule of cool”. My goal as DM is to make sure the party has fun while also ensuring the stakes are high enough for you to be fully invested. I will not go out of my way to kill you, but if you put yourselves in a difficult situation, I’m not going to save you either.
If you’re interested, you can either send me a pm or comment with your discord information. The game won’t necessarily be first come first serve, as I’d like to get to know potential players before extending the invite so we get a group that gels well together. It's ok to have a general idea of your character, but I'm also planning on having a "session zero" to set expectations and to give a more in depth view of the setting. After that we can settle on the party composition.

Thanks to everyone that reached out. We had a lot of awesome candidates and it was tough to narrow it down, but we have our party :)
