d'Ahten'khan (the gold grung) alertly watches everyone and everything while she stands close behind her companion, b'Ang'r'Ang (the red grung), who is on her knees, flailing her arms around in her wildling trance, chanting magics you've not seen or heard before. It is quite a spectacular display.
Everything in the hollowed-out tree shudders and shakes. Creaks and groans. The thick mangrove roots come cell bars begin to slowly move. Alternate roots move up, while the adjacent one moves down. Like the teeth in the jaws of a giant tree creature, the roots separate respectively from either the ceiling or floor, opening up to allow escape from the trees gaping mouth.
Exhausted from her spell, b'Ang'r'Ang slumps to the ground in an almost unconscious state. d'Ahten'khan looks directly at Clapperclaw with an urgent stare before reaching down to pick up b'Ang'r'Ang.
"C'mon!" screams Clapperclaw at the three in the adjacent cell. He rushes over to help d'Ahten'khan pick up b'Ang'r'Ang.
Balliol, Chapley and Resmae, your chance to escape is now.
Wildred, you are close to the entrance. Behind you, Halei, Kalhala and b'Leep maintain guard. In front of you on the far side of the room are Balliol, Chapley and Resmae, still in the now liberated cell. And between you and your friends are d'Ahten'khan, b'Ang'r'Ang and Clapperclaw, who has just escaped from the adjacent cell.
Halei and Kalhala, b'Leep signals that the others are free and to remain vigilant as, for sure, the noise of the b'Ang'r'Ang's spell will have alerted the bullywug guards who should soon arrive.
Balliol watches and listens as the frog casts what he had to assume was a spell. The tree . . . well, if this was supposed to be a sneaky jailbreak someone hadn't given the frog the memo. Why had they hushed Clapper only to ring the tree like a gong?
He grabbed all of his stuff (not much) and looked at his fellow prisoners. "Get ready to move quickly. I think this tree has given away the secret of our escape. We might want to move fast as soon as we are out of here. Be ready." He started speaking in a whisper -it just seemed to fit a jailbreak. But he spoke up enough to be heard over the noise. Who breaks loose from a jail with a trumpet blast???
Kalhala looks over at Halei with the noise of the break going on behind him with a big grin on his face. "Well, sounds successful and we'll probably get a fight to boot!"
He then looks down to b'Leep, "Did you expect that? I mean, I'm glad it worked, just a bit surprised is all." He risks a quick turn to see that everyone is getting out and nods briefly to Chapley, then goes back to keeping an eye out, ready for whatever may come.
Balliol, These events weren't adding up. You have questions running through your mind. "The tree . . . well, if this was supposed to be a sneaky jailbreak someone hadn't given the frog the memo. Why had they hushed Clapper only to ring the tree like a gong?" As you briefly pondered that question, others came to mind. Halei and Wildred? How are they here? You watched the building they were trapped in burn and collapse around them? Many of the goings on in this place have been confounding. Much of your experiences here do not make sense. You recall your time at the Sweetcrest Monastery. And your training. The faculty of sensation is provided via the five senses taste, smell, touch, hearing, and sight. Some have access to other ways of experiencing and influencing the world, like Wildred or b'Ang'r'Ang (the druid who just set you free). But, as a monk, you cannot tap into the arcane ways. However, you do have access to the spiritual via your Ki. And while your rational mind searches for answers where there are none (certainly without all the facts). Answers like, perhaps b'Ang'r'Ang needed silence to concentrate, or d'Ahten'khan heard something and wanted to listen more closely. Does Wildred know how to teleport Himself, Halei and Sammy from a burning building? Your access to your Ki stills your mind and gives you the awareness that, without knowing all, the rational can often be distant.
You become aware that when the grung speak, you are unfamiliar with their language. Yet, you were, and still are, able to understand them. Curious!
Kalhala, Never one to shy away from a good battle, you grin and share your excitement with Halei as she stands strong beside you. Then looking to b'Leep, you say, "Did you expect that? I mean, I'm glad it worked, just a bit surprised, is all."
b'Leep looks up at you. You can see he is not surprised by the goings on around you, and you also notice the warrior's glint in his eye as he pulls back on the arrow in his bow and aims it into the fog. He, too, looks forward to battle.
As you glance back, you notice that while the others are up and eager to escape. Chapley sits on the bench at the far back corner of the newly liberated cell. He hunches his shoulders forward as he grips the front of the bench beside his knees with both hands. His face, a vacant expression. He seems unaware of what is happening.
Resmae suddenly cries out, "Sammy!!!"
Aros, who has only just woken by the escape from her deep slumber, is startled by Resmae's revelation of her missing companion as the two wear their all-too-familiar worrisome faces as their eyes dart around to look for their beloved dog.
Chapley remains in the cell. Resmae and Aros are furiously looking around for Sammy and making their way to the entrance of the building, a twenty-foot diameter round hollowed-out tree trunk. d'Ahten'khan and Clapperclaw are trying to help up b'Ang'r'Ang, who, still exhausted from her spell, lay in the centre of the room. Between them and the entrance (an opening on the west side of the trunk) is Wildred, and outside is being guarded by b'Leep, Kalhala and Halei.
Balliol, there is a pathway leading west from the prison that you know leads back to the King's gazebo (where you were arrested). The prisoners had their weapons confiscated upon imprisonment (you lost your shortsword and both daggers).
Kalhala and Halei, visibility is limited by the fog. You can see no farther than twenty to thirty feet in any direction. You know the way south, back to the lake's edge from whence you came.
Balliol shook his head at the craziness that was all around him. It just didn't make sense. But his senses were telling him that they were making a lot of noise and would likely need to leave in a hurry. There seemed to be two directions they could go - back to the king's gazebo or the other way. He wasn't overly worried about his weapons. He'd miss them, but one advantage of being a monk was that they were unnecessary. Getting away did seem necessary.
Bugs looked over at Chapley. Something was clearly wrong with the big man. Bugs jumped over to hnim and gently touched his arm. "Come on, Doc. We gotta go." If the big man doesn't respond to him he will kneel in front of him and tip his head up. Staring him in the face he will pull on his arm. "Chaps, we gotta go, Doc. We aren't leaving you here. There is a quest out there with your name on it." The tall, lanky Harengon tried to pull the large warrior onto his feet. You don't leave people behind, even somber and mopey ones.
Halei continued to listen to the commotion coming from behind them. Struggling to resist looking back, or running to see what was going on, then returning her gaze forward again to curse the fog. 'What use was she standing guard when you couldn't see hardly anything in front of you?' She grumbled to herself, though she knew how having a couple guards looking out is extremely important. She then chastises herself for not thinking of the safety of the group first. Even still, she couldn't help but look to Kalhala, tilting her head back to peer up at his face, and ask "are you sure we shouldn't go see if they need help? Or maybe we should make some sort of barricade rather then standing in the open? We can't see hardly anything anyway."
"Chapley!" Kalhala looks at his friend nervously as he doesn't get off the bench and leave. Not leaving his post, as that would be against every bone in his body, he looks around fervently and sees a rabbit-man heading over to help Chapley. "Oh! you, good sir! Thank you for helping my friend, please, get him out of here. I don't understand what has happened?"
Kalhala is constantly looking back and forth between the mist and back at Bugs and Chapley, painfully rooted to his spot.
When Halei speaks up to him, he smiles at her and says, "We have been asked to guard this position, and guard we will do until the job is over. As for a barricade..." he looks around to see if anything will make do for that, from his position.
The noise of b'Ang'r'Ang's spell is gone, and only the creaks, groans, and the odd crack of the big tree settling can now be heard, as well as yourselves.
OOC: Between you all, you know what is in two directions (The gazebo to the west and south to the lake from where the breakout party came), but there may be other ways. Should you want to explore, hit me up with your questions.
Balliol, You notice Chapley and encourage him along, "Come on Doc. We gotta go."
Chapley rouses and looks back at you. "Yup!" he says, obviously confused.
"Chaps, we gotta go, Doc. We aren't leaving you here. There is a quest out there with your name on it."
The confused half-orc stands and feels around his body with his hands, looking for something he seems to have lost. He gives up and follows you.
The minotaur calls out at you from the doorway, "Oh! You, good sir! Thank you for helping my friend. Please, get him out of here. I don't understand what has happened?"
Wildred, Resmae and Aros hurry and coax you to come with them as they pass you near the exit.
Halei, Kalhala listens to your concerns, "We have been asked to guard this position, and guard we will do until the job is over. As for a barricade..." he replies, pondering your suggestion.
You, too, look around to see if there is anything you can use.
As you look around, you notice, quite a ways away, from the direction that the western path leads, a dim light moving towards you through the mist.
Kalhala, two of the now liberated prisoners, a small Harengon child in oversized, shiny armour and a young Satyr, run towards you, hand in hand. Stopping right next to Halei.
Pleased to see her, the little Harengon half whispers, "Where to?"
"Anywhere!" screams the excited Satyre, "Let's get out of here!"
Wildred completely bewildered at the scene unfolding infront of him..quickly follows Resmae and Aros. In a rush to the exit he felt a bot uneasy leaving Haley at the front to Guard with Kalhala after all they had only just met! But Halei can take care of herself Wildred reassured himself.
Balliol moved towards the entrance to their jail. He did his best to make sure that Chapley kept up with them. "Lets go Chaps. Adventure awaits. But we gotta get outta here first."
When they reached the entrance he looked at the others. He pointed West. "King Soggybottom's gazebo is that way. I'd like my sword back, but that seems like a busy direction. Is there a plan? Where to now, we need to move."
Kalhala smiles broadly as the harengon and satyr come up and join them. "Why hello! Are you two friends with this elf here? I'm Kalhala, good to meet ya!" he then realizes the urgency as to what they are saying, "Oh right! Where to next, he looks to one of his little frog friends, "So, where we going next?"
He then checks over to where the larger harengon is helping out his friend and making sure Chapley is doing alright. Kalhala lifts an eyebrow, unsure why his friend is acting so peculiar.
b'Leep, Kalhala and Halei stand before the entrance watching toward the west-leading path. They are at the ready and guarding your escape.
Wildred, Just as you catch up with Aros and Resmae, b'Leep points you south, toward the tree in front of the lake (from where the breakout team came). "Go now, quickly!" he orders.
d'Ahten'khan and Clapperclaw hoist up b'Ang'r'Ang, an arm over each of them as they help her to follow you out. Currently, they are at the doorway to the jail tree.
Balliol, You reach the exit, right behind d'Ahten'khan, Clapperclaw and b'Ang'r'Ang, with Chapley following you close behind.
"King Soggybottom's gazebo is that way." you say, pointing west, "I'd like my sword back, but that seems like a busy direction. Is there a plan? Where to now? We need to move."
Clapperclaw turns to you, "I know where to get your stuff." He winks and, with a smile, continues, "Follow me!"
They follow b'Leep's directions and make their way into the fog to the south.
Kalhala and Halei, b'Leep directs the others to head to the south, back to the lake from where you came. He points down the western path, where you spy lights and hear the commotion of an incoming party as they head your way. Still too far away to have seen you through the foggy darkness. That won't be for long.
Kalhala, As they approach, you greet the two panicked escapes, the small harengon and satyr.
You glance behind to see how Chapley is doing. He is following the taller harengon, the final two to escape the jail tree. Your best mate looks at you briefly, pausing. He pulls his head back as if he recognises you but does not know how or from where.
The harengon turns to Chapley and says, "Lets go Chaps. Adventure awaits. But we gotta get outta here first." Distracted from his reminiscent mind search for you, Chapley continues to follow him.
Bugs nods to Clapperclaw. Not wanting to waste time talking he keeps it short and simple. "Lead on." He then quickly follows Clapper down the path. He puts Chapley in front of him so that he can keep giving the big man an encouraging nudge when needed. He keeps his eyes and big ears focused on the fog around them looking for danger and discovery.
(ooc: If I read that right, Bugs might be at the back of the escaping group. If that is correct he would focus his observations behind them.)
Halei perks up to full alertness after spotting the lights seemingly to float and bob along in the distance. First excited at the change in the foggy scenery in front of her, and then fearful. She says hurriedly to Kalhala "Look! Do you see those lights in the distance?"
She looks back to where the others are and in a loud whisper to whoever could hear her she says "Someone is coming! I think we need to hurry and hide!" She thought it probably be smarter to hide then fight, at least until it was clear who it was approaching.

Aros and Resmea have headed off into the soggy marshes to the south, as directed by b'Leep. There is no path, but this is the direction from where the breakout party came. They are followed closely behind by d'Ahten'khan and Clapperclaw helping b'Ang'r'Ang, with Chapley and Balliol close behind them. b'Leep, Kalhala and Halei are standing near the entrance to the jail tree, watching mainly down the path that leads west, where they have spotted light heading towards them. You can only see 20-30 feet in any direction due to the fog.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Yes, let's get moving." Kalhala will take rear guard as they make their escape South, keeping his eyes peeled in the direction of the incoming lights. "Faster the better, hurry along!" he says a bit louder to the ones towards the front of the escape group.
Straining his eyes, he tries to make out what might be coming...
Bugs kept moving with Chapley. He stared around him and behind him and kept his big ears focused. But at this point he wasn't leading - he was just following those in front of him.
Halei hurries to follow, looking behind her; still wondering if they should hide. Those lights seemed to be approaching fast. She hurried along still though, the last thing she wanted was to be left behind. She keeps here eyes towards the strangers as they walked to try and make out who they could be.
