Hello, it's been a while since I participate in any kind of D&D game, hopefully I'll be able to take part in this adventure. I haven't decided what deity my character would believe in but feel free to use any other vague detail from the story if you need to tie in some other event or character.
Character Name: Maurice Von Störhees
Race: Human
Class: Cleric
Background: Noble
Description of your appearance: Maurice is only 20 years old, though his garments look elegant and expensive they look very messed up as if he only wears the same outfit Everytime and rarely get it cleaned. Has curly light brown hair and long enough to cover his eyes on the front and his neck on the back.
He look average in every way.
Brief/Long Backstory (Remember, you’re only level 1):
Maurice lived the life of any nobleman, he has been properly educated in both social and academic matters but he has always been more interested in deities, their power and influence.
he would often donate money, small objects to different shrines and temples in neverwinter without asking anything in return, just to help. When his parents noticed that many items have been disappearing they severely punished and interrogated housekeepers but no one knew who the culprit was, Maurice's father consider that an insult and decided to throw everyone out. When Maurice knew about this he explained what happened but it was too late, the house was filled with new employees and his father couldn't care less.
Maurice felt responsible for everyone who lost their job but specially the woman who practically raised ever since he was a little boy. He decided to escape from his house and look for everyone who lost their job because of him to make sure that they were ok and employeed by someone else.
He was able to locate and help everyone but the woman who raised him, some said that she left the city because no one would take her, others that her frail body only took a couple of nights out in the cold. Maurice kept looking for her...
Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter:
Maurice found the woman but it was too late, she was covered in a blanket surrounded by a metal mug, a pan and ashes. The pan showed small residues of food already covered in worms indicating that it wasn't used or cleaned for at least a couple of days. Maurice took some time to clean everything and pack it, he cleaned the woman and prepare her for a funeral rite. After that he couldn't return to his house and decided to continue traveling and help people in need, but needed to take a rest and maybe eat and drink something before moving on to what's next.
Reason that you’d accept a job offer: he is looking for people in need, he feels responsible for someone's death and wish to atone for that.
A secret that your character holds close to their chest:
Sometimes he doubts the deities and think that their influence causes more issues than what they solve, he doesn't doubt their existence but their motivation.
Description of your appearance: He is a somewhat portly, rotund fellow with a thick blonde mustache and a bespectacled square face. He has a nice 1800s style suit with a cane and a battered bowler hat. He carries a worn, leather satchel full of notes and curios.
Brief/Long Backstory: He grew up in a family of personal magicians and arcane counselors for a prestigious noble. His family has had magic in their blood for generations, but for whatever reason it skipped over Maddox. Since he couldn't cast magic naturally, he was apprenticed to a wizard in the hopes that he could learn magic. Under the tutelage of Master Loftway, he fell in the love with wizardry. He studied it for years, but rarely actually practiced the spells. He was more interested in the origins of the magic, not in casting it. He pored over tales of adventurers, huge manuals of magical items, and legends of divine power. His family kept pressuring him to join the family business, but he didn't want to spend the rest of his life cooped up in a castle serving some snooty noble. He wanted a life on the road, exploration and grand purpose.
Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter: Neverwinter was town near where he lived and this was simply a pit stop on his way to a bigger city.
Reason that you’d accept a job offer: It sounded exciting, and he needed the money.
A secret that your character holds close to their chest: He doesn't really have any secrets.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
Years since my last roleplaying. And first time for me to try out PbP. Not even sure how that works, i.e. how fast I have to reply. Just to be upfront, I'm in Europe so there might be time zone differences. Let me know if that is a problem.
Well, if you have me, here's the character that I would try.
Character Name: Garrol Half-thumb (disguised as: Gard Sparklestone)
Race: Goblin (disguised as: Gnome)
Class: Artificer
Background: Failed Merchant (Jeweller/Goldsmith)
Description of your appearance: Larger than a usual Goblin, he stands almost 5 feet tall, with a lean but muscular build. Mid age, perhaps 20/25 years. His long dark brown hair is ponytailed and looks, as well as his ochery skin, unusually clean for a goblin and well taken care of. When he is disguised as Gnome he keeps most of his features intact but only changes racial distinctions.
Backstory: Garrol was one of the finer smiths in his region but he never felt that he belonged. He has always been drawn to civilisation, the order and great opportunities that it represents for a hard working man like him. Little did he know that that might not be the case for his kin, when he decided to leave towards one of the big cities.
After years of surviving the streets on the bare minimum with odd jobs in smithies here and there, Garrol nearly managed to save up enough to start his own little jewellery. Knowing that he would never be able to conduct such a business as goblin, he devised a plan. He would hire a shopkeeper to sell his goods and he would keep well out of sight, or better simply work at night. For the little interaction necessary he could count on his experience with magical disguise and his efforts in learning Gnomish would finally pay off, too. Maybe he could just borrow the little bit that was missing?
One night, after a busy day, he left his workshop as god made him. And just when he was about to lock the doors --- "STOP! Do not move! Your hands, on the wall!" - a city guard called. Needless to say that there was nothing he could say to convince the guards that this was his workshop. "Surely" - they replied, but bound him and took him just the same. He could not lock the door. He could not set the alarm. He could only hope. But in vain. When he returned to the shop, it was looted. Not every little hiding place that he had made just in case, but too much to continue. No way that he could pay his rates. In fact, best he would get out of town for a while or perhaps forever?
Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter: Garrol is looking for an opportunity to leave Neverwinter, perhaps, even for good. [He's under the affect of disguise self for a maximum of two hours and hopes that he lands a job before it runs out]
Reason that you’d accept a job offer: If there is the chance to get out of Neverwinter, he might sign up for the job. He can fix things. He practiced a bit with a crossbow, but so far never on a moving target. But that's best not mentioned.
A secret that your character holds close to their chest: One time, when he was working for a blacksmith, he found a strange thing on the scrap yard. Two metallic legs and some bits and pieces that seemed to belong. No one minded it, so he took it home out of curiosity. Later, the whole team was dismissed because it had disappeared. Luckily he could talk himself out when he was questioned. Still, since that time he spends his free time to figure out what it is and if it can be repaired, or re-invented.
Edited to include background and appearance. Sorry for forgetting those.
Name: Kalanthas Race: Tiefling Class: Bard Background: Archaeologist Backstory: Kalanthas grew up in and around libraries where his parents worked. They were scholars and historians, but a bit passive for him. He wanted to be out there exploring and discovering and not reading about such things. He came across some accounts in an old tome about a lost city rumoured to be full of wonders, and became obsessed with learning more about it. When he reached adulthood he determined to set out and find it, but such an expedition would require far more funds than he could ever come up with alone, and he needed more information as to where this city was located. He knew that certain Lords within the realm had personal libraries that might hold more information that he could use, and so he joined other expeditions in order to start earning a name for himself, and acquiring more of the knowledge he would need for his ultimate goal. The expedition of a lifetime, but where.... Appearance: Slender Tiefling with Greenish-Brown skin, dark brown hair tied up in a pony tail and horns that sweep back just beyond his hair. As comfortable in fine clothes in front of a lord trying to obtain funding as he is in traveller's garb crawling through dusty ruins. Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter: He had been in Neverwinter trying to get funding for another expedition and access to personal libraries, but had so far not managed to get an audience with the Lord of Neverwinter. He tends to spend time in taverns during his downtime as local rumours can sometimes lead to great discoveries, and also he occasionally has need to earn extra coin by performing. Reason that you’d accept a job offer: If there were any local rumours that Phandolin or the local area was of special interest. Or if he thought doing this would get him noticed by influential people. Secret: He once unknowingly took an artifact that was sacred to a tribe and by the time he realised he had passed it on to the expeditions benefactor and used the reward to purchase his personal adventuring gear.

Character name: Dinesh Grassgrove
Race: Human
Class: Druid

She wears very well worn, but thick and warm, clothes. She wears several rough, wood hewn rings and amulets that she made herself, as well as one iron ring. She has some wild aspects to her appearance: A few nails seem to be more like bark and there are small leaves growing from her hair.
Backstory: She grew up in the forest, learning its magic. She has no memory of a time before this, but assumes she must have been abandoned at a young age. She helps the people of local villages: healing wounds, dealing with wild animals, etc. Recently though, there have been much more dangerous creatures roaming the forest, ones she cannot deal with.
Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter: She is looking for the source of the monsters invading her home, as well as a way to increase her own talents in magic and combat.
Reason you'd accept a job offer: She genuinely enjoys helping people in need. As well as this, a job would mean money, which she is in desperate need of now she cannot rely on hunting and foraging for food.

The two always had a blast with each other, Hol shooting his gun at other 'enemies' and Aoefa ripping them into shreds. From his experiences with the older girl, he learned that being a sidekick was the best thing one could ask for! Considering that the lizard was the one that always got in trouble for their misdeeds. Not to mention he has a knack for pretty faces, as he is a suave ladies' man.
Reason for being in Tavern - He came just for a drink and some fun, maybe even a lover!
Why would he take a job offer? - He's in need of some cash!

Description of your appearance: Nicanor has a Mediterranean look to him. Black, shoulder length hair, olive complexion and brown eyes. He stands taller than most humans at 6’2” and weighs in at hulking 240 pounds of muscle and meat. His upper arms and shoulders are tattooed with an unfinished parchment with names written on them to remember the fellow comrades that died fighting with him. There are 3 names: Arturo, Baer and Roland. There is one additional name. Only the first letter, “G” is legible. The rest of the name is scratched/tattooed out.
Brief/Long Backstory (Remember, you’re only level 1): Nicanor was a veteran infantry soldier that serves in the Army of Neverwinter. He held the rank of Corporal. He served in several battles and was promoted to Corporal after his Sergeant was killed and Nicanor took the squad and rushed the enemy securing the line. He left after serving his time, needing a respite to collect his thoughts. He knows he will return to the ranks someday.
Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter: Nicanor looked into his glass once more and asked the barmaid to fill it up. She did so, looking at the tattooed names on his arm. “Comrades who died with me in battle. It is how I honor and remember them.” he said. The barmaid pointed to the last name, scratched out with the letter “G”. “And that one?” she asked. “That name is not to be spoken. The tattooer insisted that I leave the one letter. I agreed. Please fill my drink.” Nicanor looked around the room once more and when the bard standing on the little stage near the fireplace finished, he got up and began to regale the crowd of the “Battle of Fordham.” This… this is what his nights consisted of and it was theraputic for him.
Reason that you’d accept a job offer: To protect others. To face the one that haunts him and put the one to rest.
A secret that your character holds close to their chest: The scrawled out name with the letter “G”. Nicanor does not speak the name or the story (DM privillege only)
Hi! I'd like to try PBP too since real life has been rough on my in-person games.
Character Name: Vacqak
Race: Kobold
Class: Artificer
Background: Guild Artisan
Description of your appearance: Vacqak is dressed in well-worn attire probably meant for dwarf children. The pieces don't match. There are no boots that fit his feet, and his cloak is too long and drags on the ground behind him.
Brief/Long Backstory (Remember, you’re only level 1): Vacqak loved making. But tribe did not like it. Boss hit by snake-stick and got mad and I go away forever. I cried on road. Dwarf Edith found and gave me drink called "ail". Good taste! Edith took care of I and show I how to make more Ail. Other Dwarf don't like I and I ran away to make Ail and make I own tribe.
Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter: Where Edith stay.
Reason that you’d accept a job offer: Leave Neverwinter and go out and make Ail and other things to taste good!
A secret that your character holds close to their chest: Stole Ail making things when I ran away (actually Alchemist's supplies).
Description of your appearance: Isadora exits the cemetery, pulling gate closed behind her with a metal squawk and a click of the securing mechanism. She leans against the stone wall surrounding the graves, and, with a look of defeat, slides down to the ground, her long legs crossed beneath her. Brown, shoulder-length hair frames her half-elven face, which appears both youthful and weary with its serious countenance and smattering of freckles. A scar bisects her left eyebrow and continues down her cheek, rendering what would be an average face to something eyes either linger on too long or avoid altogether. Her clothing, a collection of darker browns, charcoals, and greens, consists of a tunic, trousers, and a woolen cape with a hood. The cordage around the top of her right boot is loose. As she reapplies the cordage to properly, she begins to sing a folksong with a beautiful and clear voice. Her voice is not loud, but the the notes of her song are resonant and seem to carry easily on the air. When she sings, her face and posture relaxes, losing the strain that her most recent set of disappointments of come to bear.
Brief/Long Backstory (remember, you're only level 1):
Isadora grew up in a distant farming community. Her family had done well for themselves, owning many acres of farmland through several generations of hard work, ethical practices, and honest business. Isadora was one of five children. Her father was a kind-hearted man whose strength, humility and wisdom seemed to unofficially guide the village. Her mother was a healer, guiding the villagers into life through birth, through life's many injuries and maladies, and sometimes attending to them as they left this life. Hugo, the eldest, could run the farm alone if needed. Vince, the second oldest, had a spiritual experience when he was only 10 years and joined the religious order located just outside of the village. Isabella, the youngest, was an avid huntress. It seemed the farm and village were often too crowded for her, and she escaped to the woods with her long bow. Chuck, just a few years older than Isabella, was an inventor and blacksmith whose time- and labor-saving farm tools were sold (or even gifted to) most of the surrounding farms. Isadora, right in the middle of the brood and her mother's student, was the only one who was desperate to escape the beautiful village, her well-respected family, and her well-adjusted childhood home.
Everything exciting happen outside the village! She was tired of hearing the same old stories, the same old sappy folk songs. She wanted something new! When a traveling theater show arrived in the village for one night at the end of summer, Isadora took her chance at escape. She convinced the older matron to take her on, playing the dulcimer, a gig that eventually required her to dress up as fawn because that attracted more attention.
Isadora was with the theater troupe for several years. It was with them that she learned theatrics wasn't the only occupation of the group. At each town, they filled their coin purses twice, once when the villages paid to see the show and once when the pickpockets of the troupe mingle among the audience. Isadora had learned a few basics of theatrics, thieving, fighting with the group, though always feigned some excuse to avoid most criminal activity. Having grown up with her mother and father's teachings of justice and community responsibility, the moral conflict within her grew to be unbearable. Eventually, she could not ignore the tug of memories and the desire for companionship only family can offer. She abandoned the theater troupe and slowly made her way back to the idyllic village of her youth only to find a dry husk of land left. Left with few clues two the whereabouts of her family , she followed one lead to Neverwinter.
Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter
Isadora followed a lead to find the remaining members of her family in Neverwinter, only to find disappointment instead. After weeks of exhausting every possibility in town, Isadora sat at the tavern slowly nursing an ale and picking at a piece of bread. She contemplated both her lack of direction in her goal, her regret, and her nearly empty purse.
Reason that you'd accept a job offer
To fill her coffers to finance her continued search for her family.
A secret that your character holds close to their chest
In general, she doesn't talk about or exhibit her criminal past overtly.
Eronios is a short slender elf with a pale, coppery colored skin. He has dark hair with matching eyes that seem devoid of both hatred and mirth. With his hair pulled into a short pony tail, he often pulls his dark hood over his head and observes his surroundings in calculating quietness. His clothes are simple and functional with a rapier and shortbow hanging lazily off of him. He always seems at ease in any setting, while keeping an eye on everyone and everything.
Brief/Long Backstory (Remember, you’re only level 1)
Eronios grew up in a trendy neighborhood of Neverwinter. While the outside of the home seemed to be on par with those on either side of it, the inside was a different story. It was mostly devoid of furniture and wall hangings. The once prosperous Galonodel famiy has fallen on hard times. Very hard times. Eronios was the only surviving child of Rolen and Birel Galonodel. Rolen, through bad investments, had lost his family's jewelling business. To remedy this, Rolen used some of his more questionable contacts to earn money. Fencing stolen goods soon turned into running cons. The learning curve for Rolen was very sharp. Most of their material goods were sold in order to finance his schemes. As Eronios became old enough, in Rolen's eyes, he began to help his father in his cons. One particularly risky endeavor cost them Birel's life. Her life was taken as retaliation for a life lost due to a failed job of Rolen's. The Galonodel's lived in poverty, within their nice house, for some time after that as Rolen could not bring himself out of his own self pity. This was the case until a month or two ago when he decided he had just the job that would change their luck. Eronios just had to wait for him to return, and they would begin anew! Eronios was at the end of his willingness to wait when people began to come by the house to collect on what was owed them. Yes, it is time to go.
Reason for being in a Tavern in Neverwinter
Trying to hear if there is word of his father, or his collectors.
Reason that you’d accept a job offer
Hunger. Fear. Deciding that his old life is at an end, and he needs to make his own way.
A secret that your character holds close to their chest
His family's sad downfall and the fact that he imagines that his father is still alive, and that he has no wish to see him again.

Character Name: Isadora
Race: Half-elf
Class: Bard
Background: Criminal
Character Name: Eronios Galonodel
Race : Elf (high)
Class: Rogue
Background: Criminal/spy
