I would like to play in a campaign that is centered around an ocean and islands or coast. I am looking for other players (4 to 6) who would like to play in this campaign. If you wish to join, please post in this thread, explaining their experience with Play by Post and why they want to play in this campaign. We will also need a DM, as my DMing talents are completely nonexistent.

I love playing DnD and I wanted to get into PBP to kind of pad my withdrawal in between my irl sessions. I like creating a good story and pbp allows me to really take my time to figure out what my character wants. I love the concept of an Ocean campaign. I have a swashbucklery bard named Salty Joe I would love to throw in this world. Let me know if you have any open slots.
I have been wanting to play in an ocean campaign for years. Definitely in.
Been playing D&D for nearly 20 years and played PbP on penandpapergames and other forums starting in 2010. Recently started playing in a couple campaigns here on this board since I wanted to get back into D&D. I can post several times per day, more active in the evening (PST).
I have a few ideas for a character, but I would prefer to play a magic user like a sorcerer since most of my characters usually end up being melee types out of necessity.

It may have been best to post this sort of thread here but regardless, you'll want to specify what kind of sea-based campaign you want to participate in. For example, one could center around exploring uncharted waters/lands while another could be based on piracy.

Thanks for the advice, Karpmageddon. Players who would like to join can feel free to suggest what kind of naval campaign they would like the most.
Also it is not necessary to post your character ideas as we will decide on characters once we have a full group.

I may be interested in being the DM for such a campaign (though it would be my first crack at it). As such, I'd ask what is the appeal for you all wanting to do a sea-based campaign? Is it the sense of open space? Sailing? Discovering buried treasure and the sort? Because this sort of campaign easily lends itself to reskinning. Like instead of sailing the sea, the campaign could take place in the sky via airships and floating cities, where you dive down into the surface world much like you would into the sea. Or it could be planar based, where you sail the astral sea with spelljammer-like ships. And going off that, it could be completely based off spelljammer where you sail space instead of the sea.
With either alternative, you essentially have the same campaign. It's just things would be called something else and react differently based on the reskin chosen.
I would love to have you as a DM. Frankly Spelljammer was part of the inspiration for this, as well as the video game Elite: Dangerous. Sadly Spelljammer isn't available in 5e yet (although there are resources online), but if you feel up to it that would be great! Certainly the sense of open space and distance between areas is part of the appeal, as well as the freedom to essentially go wherever you want. The specifics of sailing don't interest me too much as I honestly don't know too much about them. I will let other potential players comment on what they are looking for from this campaign and which "skin" they would prefer.

I'm new to the PbP format but not to D&D. I've played various campaigns IRL years in the past, some as old as 2nd Ed AD&D. I am currently playing on roll20.net in a 5e campaign on a regular basis. A seafaring campaign sounds like a ideal area to get my feet wet at playing D&D PbP style.

Spelljammer not being 5e official shouldn't be a huge issue. As for Elite: Dangerous, I am not too familiar. But it sounds like a classic space adventure kind of thing, which is always fun. Though honestly, I may pull more from the likes of Cowboy Bebop and even the Gundam series, since I am more familiar with such as well as being a big fan of both properties.

Get your "feet wet" har har. But yes, everyone interested in this should chime in exactly what they want and/or are looking for in such a campaign. So if I do DM, I have an idea of what I am working with. Either way, I may go a bit Cthulhuian since it's very much on my mind as of late. So prepare your minds to be broken, mwahaha!
Tentacles in an ocean campaign! We think it's the Kraken but it's really the Great Old One! Muahaha!
Gimme a dwarven sailor any day.
