As you grab hold of you Orientation letter your feel a pull like someone had grabbed your spine and pulled you into the letter. It doesn't hurt but it is a very odd sensation. You blink as the light changes dramatically and before you stands the grand campus of strixhaven.
A main pathway leading to a large building is lined with stalls where college clothing, course books, food, and other articles are for sale. You make your way down this pathway, picking up whatever materials you need for your courses until you come to the doors of the Biblioplex.
You walk in and see majestic marble archways, tomes seemingly stacked for miles, and the infectious energy of hundreds of young adults fill the grand library at the heart of Strixhaven University. The sights, sounds, and sparks of magic in the air are wondrous.
Your acceptance letter stated that you must report to the Biblioplex’s Hall of Oracles to receive instructions on new-student orientation. The hall sits at the center of the Biblioplex’s first floor, and you can already see students gathering there.
You see a smallish Owlin dressed in nice but muted colored clothing, backpack filled to the brim with new books found here but unavailable to him in his home city. His head spins around this way and that as he tries to take it all in, he walks up to the Biblioplex's Hall of Oracles. As he waits he reviews the funguses he brought with him, covering them with his cloak and shading them from the damaging sunlight. He looks down and says to them "Don't worry, you'll all be safe here. It will be fun here, I promise" he says with a smile .
Upon arriving, Mayala Natogoro takes a moment to just look around at the campus that suddenly surrounds her. But only a moment, as she is unsure if others might need to teleport to the same spot and also, she wants to get to the hall quickly. She walks briskly amongst the stalls, picking up any necessary college clothing and the books for her classes. She does pause after picking up the text for her Beginning Computational Magic course. She notes the other books related to Numeromany, looking at them with interest. But after a brief perusal, she continues on.
Once reaching the marble archways of the Biblioplex she does again stop for a moment to just look around. She wants to try to memorize all that is happening. But once she notices other students have already started gathering at the Hall of Oracles she rushes over to join them. She tries to determine if there is a line, and if so, takes her place wherever seems to be the end. While she waits quietly to see what happens next, the young human woman with brown-colored skin, scans the group of other students waiting.
Kashi's large brown rabbit eyes grow even larger as he looks around. Both the Harengon's ears, like the rest of him once white but painted and dyed in a myriad of colors, stand straight up, absorbing the sounds around him.
Buying his books and supplies he heads to the hall of Oracle's. The beauty of this place! The pure stunning Artistry, the blending of magic and art! His mother was right this place was going to make him so so sosososososo much better!
Entering the Biblioplex Kashi softly sings to himself. A little ditty he has sang for years anytime he is nervous
"I am not strong, but pretty smart, all I want to do is art!
I like to dance, not into romance,
my mood is bright, I don't want to fight
I just want to paint all night!"
Not paying attention to the students he bumbs into a smallish Owlin dressed in nice but muted colored clothing, backpack filled to the brim with new books. "Woops I am so sorry!" His ear bending in half almost covering his eyes.
“oh, sorry. Did I bump you or maybe did you bump me or … did we just collide? Oh never the mind”, he says with a smile. “My name’s Finneas.” He puts his hand out. “I’m a first year.”
Kashi's face lights up, his ears standing to attention, so straight and rigid they would make a soldier proud. He shakes the offered hand with gusto.
"Hi I am Kashi," his voice, a soft tenor, is full of excitement. "I'm a first year too!" Realising his hand Kashi continues "Isn't this place great? I love the choice of colors, and use of shapes to augment the gravitas of this place." Leaping aboard the tangent train, "I'm going to be in Prismar, what about you Fenneas?"
Mayala stays back from the Owlin and Harengon pair, very glad she wasn't bumped into. For a moment she just listens. Having heard Kashi's comments about the artistry of the place, she nods her head knowingly as he proclaims interest in 'Prismar'. She finally takes a step towards them, announcing a little awkwardly in her low feminine voice, "I'm also a first year. Here for Orientation. Well, obviously."
"Nice to meet you Kashi. Prismar; cool. You must love the arts. I'm going to be in Witherbloom." He flexes his hand a little after the vigorous shaking. He's still glad he meet someone so friendly.
He turns his head to face the new comer and says "Hi, don't be shy. You made it. Be proud of yourself. We're first years too, here for orientation. I'm Finneas and my new friend here is Kashi. Welcome!" Realizing he is now facing backwards, which may startle folks, he turns his body to face her. He puts his hand out.
"Very good to meet you Finneas, I'm Mayala." She does look a bit startled while your head is turned so far around, but recovers quickly to take your offered hand. "I'm going to be Quandrix."
Once she releases the hand, she looks over to the other student. "Hello to you too Kashi."
Mayala continues to look at the two others, silent for a moment, though surrounded by the din of all the other students. "Well..." she says kind of awkwardly.
"Hi Mayala," as Kashi turns to meet her his left ear flops down covering his eyes. With a exasperated puff he blows at the ear like it was some stray hair that got in his eye. As the ear perks back up his right ear does the same, and with a even more exasperated buff he blows that air back up.
"Ears have a mind of their own." He says in a way of explanation. "So Wither bloom, and Quandrix. I'm not taking any Quandrix classes, that stuff with numbers is a little over my ears, but I am taking a Wither bloom class."
"I didn't sign up for any Witherbloom classes." Mayala says, sounding perhaps disappointed to not have a common connection to these two. "I'm sure I will at some point though."
She almost smiles at the way Kashi's ears flop down. "I don't know why you wouldn't like Numeromancy. The numbers, the patterns... How could you not be fascinated in the way abstract symbology can reveal and influence the arcane forces all around us!" She sounds very excited about the topic.
Realizing she's getting carried away, she stops, looking sheepishly at Kashi. "Sorry, I got carried away and here you probably hate the subject. Sorry."
"That's cool. We all have our passions. I love nature and am fascinated with fungus and spores and decay and... Oh, see there I go too." He says with a beaky smile.
"Looks like it's just about our turn for student orientation."
Kashi's face goes blank, his eyes go wide! "Mayala your so right! That's what I see in my art, the patterns the designs, all that you said, I just never saw it as MATH! Mayala your so clever!" His voice goes from its normal tenor and approach a an alto as his excitement builds.
Snapping out of it Kashi turns to Finneas. "I freaking love mushrooms, they are so colorful, all the reds, and blues, and yellows, oh and oranges!" Kashi finaly takes a breath, "You know I think we three are going to be friends."
Mayala actually gets a tiny smile on her face as Kashi describes his excitement about patterns and designs in his art. And his interest in mushrooms. And about the three being friends. But when he asks about changing classes, she looks embarrassed and perhaps a touch worried. "No, no. Kashi, don't change your schedule because of me!"
"Oh, that's a good idea Finneas," Myala replies to the Owlin. "Here is what I have." She shifts her pack so she can fetch a paper out of it. The paper says:
"Wow, we share all but one class there Finneas!" Mayala says excitedly. "I really want to take a Witherbloom class at some point. I'm more into animals," she adds, sounding apologetic.
Mayala nods at Kashi. "Two classes together - that's not bad. And two with Finn... Finneas," she says, almost following Kashi's shortening of the Owlin's name but not sure about it.
Mayala tries to wait patiently, but with the excitement of being at Strixhaven, she is feeling a little bit impatient. She looks at Kashi and Finneas, "When do you suppose we will get started?" She looks around at the other students gathered, trying to see if there is any sign of what they are supposed to be doing. "We didn't miss anything did we? Do you think?"
