hey Bartjeebus thought I’d submit another option besides the githyanki war mage, as the prompt inspired another concept as well ;) always honored by those who are willing to take on the DM role! Also I would be interested in RPing the death curse character of that is a necessary story note, but we would need to have some private chats about that as I’m not sure what that entails… but always interesting to add Some spice into an RP :)
really enjoyed writing up this idea today:
Name: Astyssa Oathkeeper
Race: Yuan-Ti Female
Class + Planned Subclass: Paladin / Conquest
Background: Faction Agent (Chaotic Good)
Personality...
Ideals: -better to have vanquished some evil and died, than never have vanquished evil at all. -trust is earned by willingness to sacrifice safety in the name of responsibility.
Bond: -The teachings of brother Kanen that she lives her life by. -to vanquish evil, to be the bladed edge that keeps the tides of evil at bay.
Flaw: -has yet to ever meet or fight other yuan-ti, which she has been taught are all evil. -has a tendency to instinctively attempt to charm others after a few drinks. -can get more done than many men combined, but sometimes is in too much of a rush. -overconfident, just got out of training.
Short Backstory:
Astyssa’s first memories were in the compound by the sea. She realized she was different from everyone else at an early age, for everyone except brother Kanen treated her with suspicion.
Whenever the word “evil” was brought up, the crowd would have eyes shoot glances in her direction. But the learning continued: it was our mission to cleanse the world of evil, and along the way face great dangers not merely to bring safety to others, but because that very challenge would build us into the weapons needed to face the true terrors of reality.
Everyone would die one day. Since we would all pass, the only way to honor life was to sacrifice it knowingly onto the fire of cosmic balance. With our helmets on, others would see us as the evil, with our helmets off, we would show them how good also needed to know the weapons of war.
Except Astyssa. She was different. As they developed, the other agents became more brave with teasing her, “we get to relax at night, but you should never take your helmet off, otherwise you’d have to vanquish yourself!”
Then it was time to go out into the world, as their training was complete. That final evening brother Kanen took Astyssa to the cliff side. They sat silently for a time before he spoke.
“I found you as a child after our brotherhood had cleansed an encampment of snake worshipers. There in the wreckage lay what to everyone else seemed a seed of evil, but I was given a vision, one of a task only you could bear. So I brought you back and I raised you as common folk.”
“You will have the harshest task among us, but you are also the only one who can bear such burden. There is a rising evil in Chult, and we have heard that there are lizard like demons abounding. I suspect there may be a great Yuan-ti cult in need of cleansing. These others are not ready. So I am sending you. You may not survive, but then again, we will all die some day.”
Kanen was standing over Astyssa now. She knew her choices were death down the cliff rocks, the murder of Kanen and a life running in fear, or to be the fear and accept the charge.
She pulled out a blade and slashed herself enough to draw blood. She grabbed his face with her dripping hands and Beaufort his face close to hers.
“You have made us each that which we fear most. I am the blade that holds the tides of evil at bay. For this I give thanks. To this I sacrifice fear. Thus I have become the face of fear.”
After placing their foreheads together, she turned her back to him and began walking back to the compound in which she would sleep for perhaps the last time in her life. Tears were rolling down her cheeks. But these were tears that boiled with both confusion and new found conviction.
It was time to go save this world, by destroying another.
***notes: would be nice if the raised yuanti village she was found in was in Chult and she’s being sent implicitly to kill the remains of her own clan.***
Ideals: ->I like to know my enemy's capabilities and weakness before rushing into battle. -> I'll stop spirits that haunt me or die trying. -> I am a monster that destroys other monsters, and those who shelter monsters.
Personality traits -> I don't run from evil, evil runs from me. -> I refuse to become victim, and I will not allow others to be victimized. -> I put no trust in divine beings.
Bonds: -> There's evil in me, I can feel it. It must never be set free.
Flaws: -> I must do some rituals to keep the thing in me suppressed regularly. -> I assume the worst in people. -> I can talk to spirits that no one else can see.
Background: Hmmm not clear on thia one as I know no place to base this on tho I have a very primitive outline....may need some help/refining.
