The man takes Dora's hand and helps her to her feet. "Barne, Barne Riversidge," the man says before adding, "I think I recognise you... Are you a member of the watch?"
[OOC: Please make an Area Knowledge roll to see if you recognise the man and know anything about him.]

"Could you secure your dog and any others, I don't want to be in your home with the animal that just attacked me? I will also need to talk to your wife first before imposing on her household."
[OOC: Hi Paul. Long time no hear. But that's okay. It has been a busy time for me with NaNoWriMo and getting the December issue of the journal ready.
A Short Rest actually requires spending an hour to recover, which is not always possible. However, as a member of the Fighter character class, Dora has access to a class feature called 'Second Wind', which allows her to recover some hit points as a Bonus Action (she must then wait until after she completes a Short Rest before she can do it again). This is mainly used in combat to keep a fighter up and going—they are one of the more durable character classes in the game—but there is nothing preventing them from doing it outside of combat.
Second Wind allows a Fighter to recover 1d10 + level hit points (i.e., a minimum of 2 for a 1st level fighter). So, please roll a d10 to see how many hit points Dora can recover by using her Second Wind and then you can decide whether she also needs a Short Rest. She currently has 8 out of a maximum of 12 hit points.]

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
[OOC Hi Phill I have wondered how you went on NaNiWriMo? I sort of was flummoxed by the turn of events for Dora and let it get to me. I guess that is gaming. There seemed no good options but you just have to go with it.]
[OOC: Hi Paul. I managed to do my 50,000 word in November and haven't looked at them since because I have had to concentrate on getting the December issue of my work journal out. Maybe now that that is done I will be able to recover something from the mess of words that I have written.
On other matters, I don't understand the die roll you have made. When I mouse over the number, it says that you rolled a d20 and then added 10. Is that what you chose?
A roll for Second Wind is a d10 + the character's level. This is a choice available in the dice dialogue box, so please try again.
With regard to the turn of events for Dora, these things happen because of the random element of the game. Non-deadly, low-level encounters can also be tricky to run. However, they do offer the chance to gain both player and character experience with limited risk. It was highly unlikely that Dora would have died in that encounter but I thought it was a good example of some of the combat mechanics of the game.
One thing I have been thinking with regard to your playing experience, is that you have never played this game as it should be played: face-to-face in real time. Perhaps we should organise some play time using Zoom so that you can gain this sort of experience. Are you interested? We could do it one-on-one, or we can ask Andrew to join us if you want. Group roleplaying can be a great social activity.]

Having had the chance to catch her breath, Dora is now feeling more able. [OOC: She is now on full hit points again, however, she will not be able to use her Second Wind feature again until after she has had either a short or a long rest.]
Does she still want to accompany this man back to his home?

"Come, come," he then urges. "A nice cup of char and a quick wash up and you will be right as rain."

Carefully observe house and surrounds. Wait for Barne's wife to appear. I am well aware that I am vulnerable and I need to be assured that Barne is what he seems before I enter his place.
"Remember Barne, you are going to lock up that dog".
[OOC thanks for checking in Phil. it seems to have peaked. The first sign something was wrong was a wave of fatigue and vague achiness, followed closely by a sore throat. The only symptom now causing me some worry is I have developed a deep cough. I will monitor. I am on antivirals though the course ends today.]
The fenced-in back yard of this house is littered with an eclectic array of different household items all looking to be in good repair. This would probably leave Dora wondering what trade this Barne is involved with.
