Life ever seeks to understand its inception. Every civilization has its own interpretation of where its story began. Even within the world of Exandria, different cultures have creation myths that eventually converge with recorded history, but there is no universally accepted story. Even so, the ancient city of Vasselheim on the distant continent of Othanzia is largely considered to be the oldest surviving city, having endured a terrible war that wiped out most of civilization nearly a thousand years ago. Vasselheim houses the earliest known temples to the gods, as well as the earliest known records of history that survived this catastrophic war.
However, this story begins on the continent of Wildemount. In a region known as The Menagerie Coast. A lush, rain-swept, tropical region filled with scattered forests and jungles, rocky seaside cliffs and beaches, overgrown islands, and bustling trade routes that traverse the perilous seas. This land is known far and wide as a place for lively trade, vibrant art, performance, and excellent food—as well as the indulgence of vice, piracy, and illicit business.
Five of the seven cities have open shipping ports, supporting a robust economy of goods, services, and contraband. The Myriad crime syndicate has had its hands in the affairs of the concord for decades, and while officials publicly deny that the Myriad is still active along the Menagerie Coast, local guildmasters and politicians fear that the Myriad is stronger than ever.
The major cities that comprise the Menagerie Coast are Port Damali, Feolinn, Othe, Nicodranas, Gwardan, Port Zoon, and Tussoa. Beyond the coastal cities, the Swavain Islands are scattered across the Lucidian Ocean, bearing shipping posts, dangerous reefs, and ancient secrets hidden in the bellies of hungry jungles. The pirates of the Revelry stalk the oceanic trade lanes, hassling merchants, marines, and adventurers alike. As any adventurer will attest, all this danger guarantees that travel along the Menagerie Coast is an anxious, thrilling, and profitable experience—if you know where to look.
In the village of Palma Flora, a small settlement known for its shimmering beaches and cocktails, is days away from its annual shark hunting tournament, a spectacle that brings vacationers from the nearby city of Port Damali.
Port Damali, also known as The jewel of the Menagerie Coast, is the unofficial capital of free trade outside the empire. This bustling city is filled with music, color, and commerce and the massive port hosts ships from all around the world. Trade routes splinter from all other sides of the city to ensure rapid transport of goods to destinations throughout Wildemount and beyond.
Group Palma Flora: The annual Shark Hunting Tournament is only a couple days away. The drinks are strong and the sun is hot. What would a typical day for you be?
Group Port Damali: The smell of fish and trade is strong in the air. The occasional scuffle can be heard scattered throughout the city as one degenerate argues with another. A boat is currently being readied to take tourists to Palma Flora. What would a typical day for you be here?
Ant leaves his home around noon every day and walks to the tavern for something to eat. He is friendly with the locals and the proprietor and will help them with odd jobs. He has never taken part in shark hunting as he is typically busy studying the religious history of these lands. The old gods that fought over the world intrigues him. He studies these wars and the Gods in hopes to find an answer to the cursed Savalirwood that turned him into a bear for a year.
With the shark hunting tournament only a couple of days away many new faces arrive in town. Ant hates this time of year because of the strangers, looks, and trouble it brings. However, it does help him earn a few coins when he's asked to clean up some of the rowdier strangers who wander in. At this time of year, he is cautious to hide his wings, not that he flaunts them during normal weeks. He has never seen another fairy in these parts outside of his family who live in Port Damali and does not want to bring attention to himself. He can pass for a halfling or a gnome with his pointed ears, so no one pays him any mind and he would like to keep it that way.
Korgen likes Port Damali well enough. He’s not really that much of a people-dwarf, but he’s not precisely anti-social. In fact, he’s a bit lonely just now.
Korgen wakes each morning in a stone cube… no windows, all but the barest shreds of light shut out. That part’s okay. “Raised in the dark,” is what a good dwarf knows. He makes his bed, a flimsy sheet and thin blanket. Gets dressed - cotton shirt beneath a leather vest that wraps one half over the other with wooden buttons and a high collar; dark woolen pants, and beat up, heavy leather calf length boots- and heads out to pick up breakfast.
Korgen heads out for Shia’s place after that, a bit grumbly about dealing with the elf face to face… this deal sounding less and less appealing. Maybe he was dragging his feet in the hopes something better might appear.
Malirys is an elegant, onyx skinned drow, but on closer inspection there are hints of the fact she is not pure of blood. Slender, it is hard to see her figure currently under her attire. She often wears her hair in a Ronin Knot, representing her affiliation to a higher being, her central axis pointed upward in reverence.
she has just finished an investigation into the whereabouts of a noble house’s heiress gone beach party animal who’d conveniently allowed her friends to pawn off a few of the family heirlooms from the house for funds. The job had brought her to Palma, and when in rome… so somehow the work trip had turned into a relaxing week of people watching, letting her skin get some sun, (there was a sadistic pleasure for her to get sun as a drow, she want born with the sight sensitivity of her other family members, which spoke to her peculiarities, as well as her mixed experiences in relation to them). Oh but there probably wasn’t a single person who knew of her reality in hundreds of miles if not thousands!
“I’ll have the regular, whatever all these tourists are drinking” malirys finds herself observing the movements and manurisms of the crowd at the beach, and how they are so oblivious to those powers that could destroy their peace at any moment. But her life wasn’t about ruining people’s fun, but if anything protecting it, and her work as a private investigator was more a means to entry in many social circles, as well an excuse to travel and keep an eye out on whatever corner of the continent fate and study brought her.
right now, she was learning how the common folk enjoyed their savings: wasting it on drinks with little umbrellas, and double the number of swimsuits as anyone could ever need. And so she enjoyed her drink and wondered what would be the next clue that took her down the next branching of her flow through life this time around.
Auraani sat at one of the taverns in Port Damali and turned up her mug of mead to finish it off with a loud smack of her lips. She had stopped here for lunch and drink after disembarking from guard duty on a local trader's boat and decided not to take another job for a bit. She had made enough coin from this last job to last a bit and wanted to see the sights. She had been to Damali before, but never actually stopped in the port town to see what there was to see. She had thought about taking a boat over to Palma Flora to check out the shark hunting tournament perhaps, but wasn't really sure. She would potentially see the sights, check the shops and if possible get over to Palma Flora if she had time.
Auraani stands 5' 11" tall, with slightly tanned skin, green eyes and curly red hair that she attempts to keep pulled back in a ponytail. She is not plain by any means, but she is not lithe and slim like a lot women. She carries a good amount of compact muscle and it shows somewhat as she stands at ease wearing chainmail with a large greatsword in a sheathe on her back that is split halfway down one side to allow her to draw it easier.
"Well, let's see what we can find to get in to then," she says to herself with a smile and heads off towards the marketplace.
As you go through your daily activies. Reading up on this histories and visiting some of the locals that usually have jobs for you, you visit a Dwarven local by the name of Dworhed Axefury. Dworhed greets you and mentions a "security" position for the Shark Hunting Tournament. He mentions that he doesn't' expect it to be too crazy and should be easy money if you are interested.
Korgen;
Your meal at the local tavern The Crimson Chimera was cooked well and was quite delicious, despite it being on the cheaper end, as far as taverns go. As you head to Shia's place, to finally meet this contact you heard about, you instead find a young boy. Who mentions to you that Shia has actually taken a trip to Palma Flora for the Shark Hunting Tournament, not to watch, but to participate. The boy also mentions that if you wish to speak with Shia, that is where you will need to go. The boy motions to the boats and mentions that a boat for Palma leaves within 24 hours if you wish to go.
Malirys;
You sit outside The Toothless Naga tavern as you watch all the locals, and tourists, enjoy themselves. As soon as you ordered the drink, a young elvish woman approaches with a Psychic Dragon Whisky, which tastes of Whisky, with a strong burning after taste. Enjoyable to those who can handle the heat, but at 7 silver a pop, maybe only one? As you glance around, you see a couple groups of people, partying and having a grand ol' time. ((Please give me a perception check Malirys))
Auraani;
Auraani, your window shopping has led you past various shops selling all sorts of different foods, drinks and nik-naks. One vendor is trying to sell their home-woven tye-dye shirts, while another is trying to get peoples attention to sell their blankets. To some, seeing these people work so hard to sell their hand made wares is a beautiful sight, while to others it's seen as pathetic and desperate. Passing by these shops eventually lead you close by to the docks where various fishing boats and transportation vessels can be seen docks and undocking. ((Please give me a perception check Auraani))

Malirys gives the waitress a gold piece and while turning points her finger from her hip height (out of obvious line of sight) of the elf) and mumbles a [timely message] under her breath for only her to hear.
inside her ears the elf hears “I shouldn’t bother this woman again.” Not sure if it was her own thought, she takes the tip and leaves unto her other duties.
Looking back across the beach and sipping her attempts at experience how others consider spending their just rewards(coin wasted on frivolities), Malirys observes a few groups interacting among themselves, some taking more of her attention and perceptiveness than others. People watching is one of favorite past times.
Ant figures he'd take the job and make some easy money before finding more books about the past wars and deities that took part in them. "Hello, Dworhed...This job would be for the whole tournament and pays what? I will do it regardless."
As you scan the groups, two groups stand out. They appear to be drinking and dancing to music playing near by. Inside each of these groups is a woman that stands out to you, and as you look closer, each of these women seems to match the identity of the heiress you are trying to track down.
Auraani;
As your walking, you hear a voice calling out over the crowd. It's faint, but you are able to make out the words "Palma Flora! Next departure, 4 hours! 4 hours until Palma Flora!" You also hear some rumors about a supposed haunted smuggler ship along the Barren Shores, however, the few that have left to explore it, have not returned. You also hear a conversation between two older men about a logging vessel that was set on fire the other day and how the acts are escalating.
Ant;
Dworhed nods as you ask your question and answers. "Yes, should be easy coin for a couple days work, if you'd even call it that. As far as payment, I'm thinking I might be able to get ya 8 gold."
Dworhed gives Ant's hand a firm shake. "Meet me back here tomorrow and we'll go over everything more in detail. Have a great day, and please, try to enjoy the festivities!"
As you rush through Damali, you quickly make your way through the shopping district and head to the boats, once there you hear someone shouting out "Palma Flora! Next departure, 4 hours! 4 hours until Palma Flora!" You see the man motioning other townsfolk toward the ship closest to him.
Korgen will sigh in relief and go get all his belongings before returning to the boat, including the palm pistol he’s now hidden in his shirt. He tries to find an unobtrusive place on the boat to avoid drawing attention from

Malirys notices this and thinks “disguise self?” Or something more sinister?
Having already send a message and invoice to her clientele In Port damali, she didn’t much care what the heiress does anymore, except that either there was a doppelgänger, or someone wanting to pretend to be here.
malirys keeps watching to see any clues which is the real one and which is pretending to be, also checking out the groups.
Auraani hears these things and digests the information for later, right now she figured she would catch this boat and head over to Palma Flora to see the sights. Perhaps she would check into this haunted ship or the logging vessel that was set on fire. Absentmindedly she grabs at the holy symbol hanging proudly at her chest, idly rubbing the lightning bolts coming off the small shield and smiles as she intones a quick prayer, "Kord, hear my prayer, point me in the right direction today. Show me the way of the most excitement."With that, she sets off towards the boat to Palma Flora with a mischievous grin.
As you approach the boat, you see there are a handful of people getting on. A family of Dwarves with 2 small children and an Elvish couple.
Auraani and Korgen;
As you both enter the boat, both at various times, you are greeted by an older human gentleman who introduces himself as the captain. He anticipates clear sailing with clearer skies. You both take your spots on the boat and wait for it to set sail. About 20 minutes after the final passenger gets on, the boat finally sets off, sailing down the coastline. A fresh breeze can be felt on the top deck with seagulls flying next to the boat. A large forest follows the coastline with you for a majority of the trip, with the occasional family of deer stopping to drink from the ocean. About half way to Palma Flora you both feel the waves start to get rocky, which seemed odd as the captain predicted clear sailing. Off in the mountains behind the trees, large rocks can be seen falling. ((Do either of you do anything?))
Malirys and Ant;
You both go about your day, reading up on history and people watching. After about 5 hours, you both start to feel a small rumble, but this small rumble starts to increase in amplitude, feeling more and more like an earthquake. The houses begin to shake in place and loose objects fall off tables and shelves. People start to look around, on the verge of panic as this is not something that happens to them every day.
