Recently I whipped up a fun nautical-themed campaign, set in and around a fishing-town named Byting, in the kingdom of Crabbing. This adventure will be set in my homebrew world of Cortan. WARNING: This is in no way a railroaded campaign, so be prepared to shape it to your liking!
4-6 players wanted (1st level characters only), after which I will close this thread to outsiders ;) and begin the campaign! Below is an image of Byting.
Dang, I was looking to join with a human fighter character that I've been working on backstory for a while now...don't want to double up classes though...
Here is a quick reference sheet to Byting and the outlying lands.
BYTING Byting is a fishing town in the kingdom of Crabbing. It has a population of 35,000, mostly fisherfolk and their families, though the odd merchant, peddler, or pilgrim who wishes to visit the Temple of Waevus can also be seen amidst the throng. Byting is bordered to the west by the Sea of Tamakuk, to the south by the Grimmore Marsh, to the east by the Gleamwoods, and to the north by the Darkwythe mountains. It is ruled by Reeve Ewan Cadwyn on behalf of Darius Swann, the duke of Crabbing. A town council assists the reeve and deals with other menial matters. The main trade in Byting is that of fish. Fisherman and their families build their diets around it, merchants come from all over Cortan to trade for it, and it is shipped off to other cities to the far east. It is even used as a currency in some situations, a one-pound fish equal to one clamm. Currency: 1 gp = 1 crabbit 1 sp = 1 clamm 1 cp = 1 shelling
THE GLEAMWOODS The Gleamwoods are situated four miles to the east of Byting. Dark trees loom overhead, letting only minimum light onto the leaf-scattered forest floor. Yellow eyes peer from dim caves, the trees and bushes often seem to have a life of their own, and shadows flicker of their own accord. While humans rarely enter it, the forest is home to gnomish clans, who constantly age war on one another and battle for dominance, occasionally banding together to deal with a particularly dangerous goblin threat. The four greatest clans, Armstrong, MacKinnon, MacDougall, and Baird, dominate the weaker clans and demand tribute in the form of food, wood, and weapons. Ogres and goblins are forced to fight for the scraps left behind by the mighty clans, whom they dare not challenge openly without staggeringly greater numbers. These creatures fight for survival in a complicated hierarchy, and none wish for outside involvement.
THE DARKWAYTHES The Darkwaythes are a vast network of closely crags, which live perpetually in an unnatural darkness formed by strange cloud formations. Storms of thunder, lightning, and acid rain are a frequent, almost daily occurrence, and none but the strongest orc warbands and distant stone giants dare live here. Deep beneath these mountains is a network of black caverns and grim pools, where pale things slither and abominable creatures worship merciless gods. Among these foul beasts dwell the peaceful selkie, living in exclusive communities and fishing the waters of Lac Montagne, which provides warmth from underground vents and a steady supply of fish. These resources are both invaluable to the selkie during the cold winters.
THE SEA OF TAMAKUK The sea of Tamakuk is a vast expanse of roiling waves, dangerous whirlpools, and sharp black spires that rise out of the sea like teeth in a gargantuan maw. The Seventeen Isles, Oceanhome, and Tikkamaw are all notable locations to be found in this ever-shifting landscape. Kuo-toa, sahuagin, merfolk, sea-elves, and things even older than the land itself lie beneath the wild surface of this sea in calm and forgotten realms.
GRIMMORE MARSH Many eerie tales are told by the inhabitants of Byting of Grimmore Marsh and the terrible creatures said to haunt it. From savage fey to loathsome undead, the stories told are many and varied. The solitary hermits and shepherds who dare eke out a living in the mud have learned to mark well the unnatural fog and strange sounds that occasionally arise, and steer clear of them. Bullywug clans roam the marsh, hunting the pale fish that live in the murky water and occasionally clashing with the pirates of the feared Pillager, who raid the bullywug villages.
Many, many years ago, when the gentle elves shared the land with the peaceful races and lived in harmony, power-hungry men from far lands to the east came in their hordes. And in the battle known as The Battle Where No Shield Was Raised, the armies of men killed in cold blood the peaceful elves as they stood weaponless behind a white flag. And to this day, it is said that among the murky waters of the Grimmore Marsh can be seen the red stain of blood.
Kathleen was born as the eldest daughter of the noble elven family of Silversurge. Her parents had named her Elena Silversurge. From an early age, she was an active-outgoing type. She learned to see all people around her as equals from spending time with her nurse maid. Her parent's controlling and over-protective nature made her want to explore the world that much more. She would often sneak out of the house, sometimes with her nursemaid's help and visit the local village or the meadows. To better keep her outings a secret, she would obscure her face with a hood and a veil and go by the name Kathleen Burns. She became friends with an half-orc girl during one of these adventures, who would accompany her in subsequent adventures. From her, Kathleen learned the basics of fighting which she combined with the archery lessons her family forced on to her. Needless to say, her parents did not approve of her behavior as they believed that noble women should be delicate and lady like who occasionally take part in small archery competitions among themselves. As Kathleen grew older, her parents became concerned that she did not change her ways. Thinking that putting her in the face of real combat would scare her into behaving like a lady, her father asked her uncle, Dresh Silversurge to have her spend a few days with a troop of specialized soldiers under the king's command, The Hell Patrol, to teach Kathleen the dangers of combat. Using their influence, the Silversurge family convinced the King to let Kathleen join The Hell Patrol. But much to the dismay of her uncle, she got along very well the rest of the soldiers there and even made new friends. Rather than being frightened, she enjoyed slaying the various fiends and patrolling the caverns they were stationed in with her new friends. She refused to go back and even becoming a staple of the troop, earning the nickname "Silence". In a final attempt to get her to leave, her uncle led the troop to attack a Pit fiend against the wishes of all 6 other members of the team. As soon as they saw the monster, one of her allies, a human ranger named Harmond "Invader" Ivanov, shouted for everyone to abandon the mission while running away himself. Silversurge, unable to react quick enough to stop him, commanded the rest of the soldiers to go through with the mission without the deserter. As the beast roared and moved closer to them, Kathleen turned around to see if her uncle was truly confident in their abilities only to see him running off himself. But at that point, it was too late for the rest of them to run; the Pit fiend was upon them and it was the beginning of the end. Injuries mounted as the futile battle continued. The ones that tried to run were struck down by the monster's brutal mace. Soon she too couldn't bare the pain of her wounds and she lost consciousness. Miraculously, she regained consciousness later. She had no idea how much time had past. She saw the bloodied and mangled corpses of all her fallen allies. Did one of them give their life to save her or was she just lucky? Either way, she slowly and painfully made her way back to their abandoned camp. She used the supplies she found there to treat her wounds. After that incident she didn't return to her home or to her family. She went from town to town adventuring. Though she still has nightmares of the incident she still has most of her friendly and adventurous personality intact. She introduces herself to all as Kathleen Burns and goes wherever her next adventure takes her.
tl;dr She was a noble who wouldn't sit still. Dad put her in an army to scare her. It failed. All friends died. Now traveling the world.
Well, I'm new to DnD and the fighter I want to play is more of an archer that specializes in long range combat with long bows.
Gris lived in a small Firbolg society in the forest near the small fishing village. They loved to do some tricks on villagers. But they never did a real harm. Messing fishing ropes, moving animals from one barn to another at night. From time to time they even wander into local temple library to look on maps and scripts (OOC: priests knew that they were there). It was a great fun for them as he and his mates could easily, magically change their look or hide. Villagers accepted them as from time to time their druids healed their animals and brought to town people who lost in the forests)
But one day, while he was away, all his friends disappeared. No blood, no signs of fighting. Spretta did everything he could to find them. To find his parents and brother. But no results.
Tired, hungry, lonely and far away from his destroyed home he has met old monk with a spear. Monk decided to help him. They travel together for some time looking for wise wizards or clerics that could help find Gris's family. No luck. The monk gave Gris the second name "Spretta". Meanwhile Spretta learned the way of monks life and how to fight with a spear "art of the spear" (OOC: In Japanese it is called "Sōjutsu").The old monk decided to go back to his temple (his life goal was to travel and find a student to pass the "art of spear"). Gris continues his travel

Monks are my favorite class! That character sounds terrific.

Can I join with an Elven Fighter? I rolled for stats but can take new stats through point buy if necessary. GMT +6 By the way.
I will make about 1 post a day on this forum, so be sure to check in daily!

Hi there, ZulkRS! An Elven Fighter is perfectly acceptable. Point-buy is ideal, but if you are attached to your stats then stick with them.

Thanks. Hope my timezone wouldn't be a problem. Just for clarification, my stats are:
Str: 14 Dex: 20 (I got super lucky and rolled an 18) Int: 14 Wis: 10 Cha: 14
Will backstory have a factor in this? If so, I would be grateful If I could receive help in editing it to better fit the campaign.
Hey ZulkRS. What is your backstory as of now?

Gris Spretta: Firbolg monk. Possible?
I'd like to join in on this! HMB while I roll up a characterI'll submit Ghorbash, the Half Orc Pirate Barbarian for your consideration on this adventure. 27 Point Buy stats. Working on his backstory now.
Any room for a Gnome Druid? I am new to pbp, but eager to get into it, and this campaign sounds too good to pass up.
