Hello all, I'm a newer DM looking to gain more experience with DnD and roleplaying in general. I have hosted one game before, so I am not completely new, but please do be patient when we play and don't be afraid to point out if I've missed anything.
I'm looking for 3-5 players for Lost Mines of Phandelver. New players and veterans are welcome (just make sure not to meta-game please).
Setting
More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin (pronounced fan-duh-lin) prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. A powerful force of ores reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost. For centuries, rumors of buried riches have attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around Phandalin, but no one has ever succeeded in locating the lost mine. In recent years, people have resettled the area. Phandalin is now a rough-and-tumble frontier town. More important, the Rockseeker brothers a trio of dwarves have discovered the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, and they intend to reopen the mines. Unfortunately for the Rockseekers, they are not the only ones interested in Wave Echo Cave.
Application
The game will be run here in the Play-By-Post forums once I've selected everyone. While I wish for a more mature audience (18+), I won't be going in-depth with disgusting/offensive details of any nature.
No Unearthed Arcana or homebrew content, please. Stick to the official sourcebooks, more importantly PHB, DMG... can use some of Tasha's if you wish, but don't go overboard.
When submitting your application, please copy and paste the following form in your response and complete it where necessary:
Name of your character: Race: Class: Backstory (a few lines): Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to transport his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin. What about your character you think stood out to the dwarf?:
Please roll your ability scores by copying and pasting the following in your thread:
Backstory: The young boy once lived in a normal home, but struggled to make friends due to his "explosive" personality. None of the children disliked him, but he didn't even try to make friends. Due to this loneliness, he fled from home and decided to start life in a new are away from everything that "troubled" him. He's learned to hone his martial arts through endless training in the woods.
What's special about him?: Gundren caught eye of the boy while in an encounter with some children his age, simply over a silly matter of stolen candies among the schoolchildren. This argument led to a fistfight against Mondatta and one of the other boys. The agility and brute strength that he had shown in that petty brawl were simply outstanding for a kid his age.
Name: Mondatta "Boingo" Alnino Race: Human [Is Variant allowed?] Class: Wizard [Divination] Backstory: (Urchin, thinking of a backstory.) What's special about him?: His magical spellbook has a tendency to "predict the future", which makes him useful for preventing trouble.
[[Spoiler refers to character concept.]]
I plan on playing a child character, would this be okay with you?
Yes, human variant is completely fine. I don't think there should be a problem if you wish to play a young character, or at least I don't see anything wrong with it right now.

Name of your character: Teslyn Goldenhair Race: Half-Elf Class: Bard Backstory (a few lines): Teslyn has been a wanderer her whole life, raised a traveling merchant who plied his trade up and down the Sword Coast. She grew up listening to, and then telling stories. Now, she has decided to leave the (decidedly mobile) nest and try to star in a story of her own.
Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to transport his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin. What about your character you think stood out to the dwarf?:
Teslyn caught Gundren's eye while she was telling stories of the troubles stemming from the orc incursions long ago. Her inclusion of the plights of all the people, including his own forbearers struck at his heartstrings. Also struck by her musical skills, he figures she could liven up the journey and enliven Phandalin in the future. Teslyn sealed the deal with her background working with her father as a merchant's apprentice. Here was someone who would treat the goods right.
Please roll your ability scores by copying and pasting the following in your thread:
Name of your character: Leshanna Nightbreeze Race: Wood Elf Class: Fighter Backstory (a few lines):
Leshanna is an archer and knows the woodlands around Neverwinter better than most. The dwarf came to her due to her woodsmanship as well as her skill with her chosen weapon.

Ilimaris "Maris" Dalanthan, Wood Elf, Monk: Way of Four Elements
Backstory (a few lines): I grew up near Silverymoon at my family's temple to Corellon. I spent most of my time outside, hunting in the woods, playing flute, and generally having fun. My cousins used to literally trap me and bring me back for lessons in unarmed combat and carpentry. Now in my 120's, I've packed a bag and left to explore and see what nature is like everywhere, not just around home.
Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to transport his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin. What about your character you think stood out to the dwarf?: Maris has a rugged confidence about him, and he never says no to a challenge. Any mention of getting paid AND traveling someplace new? Maris would be quick to agree, and probably wouldn't think about negotiating whatever pay he was first offered.

Hi, please update your post with the following information or it won't be taken in consideration:
Name of your character: Race: Class: Backstory (a few lines): Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to transport his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin. What about your character you think stood out to the dwarf?: Character Sheet Link:
Name of your character: Lillian Race: Variant Human Class: Fighter (Wizard) Backstory (a few lines): Lillian has spent her life surrounded by books. She was apprenticed to a wizard in the great library which allowed her to learn a great many things. However, it allowed her to also read a lot of epic stories of adventure. Adventures she longed to experience for herself. They told her she would never last (because she is a girl). So, she worked on her fighting skills and on physical fitness. Then one night went out on an errand she never came back and is determined to prove them wrong. Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to transport his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin. What about your character you think stood out to the dwarf?: She was obviously a big strong woman -- which Dwarves admire more than many humans do. However, she seemed to have very little self confidence -- convincing the Dwarf that he might convince her to take the job for less than the going rate.

Hey, I am posting again here because luckily you had quoted my ability score rolls. When I updated my post, I somehow got manipulated dice results warning, so I am quoting your post to show these were the original rolls.
Name of your character: Wilhelm Stallings Race: Half Elf Class: Bard ( Sword ) Backstory (a few lines): Having born in a family of jewelers in Neverwinter, Wilhelm grew bored within the confined spaces of the city at a young age. Torn between satisfying his wanderlust and the pressure from his family about having a profession to earn his living, Wilhelm chose the middle ground: Joining the Cartographer's Guild. Completing his apprenticeship, Wilhelm aims visiting the locations on his maps, look after himself on his own in his travels, and perhaps improve or even chart new maps of his own.

Backstory (a few lines): As a child Koyries would hear stories about fearless adventurers that would battle terrifying monsters and one day he dreamed that he could follow in their footsteps. Sometimes when his father would go hunting with a few of the other hunters in the village he would sneak out and follow after them, although he would almost always get caught by either his father or one of the others.Once he reached adulthood he decided to finally follow his dream even though he wasn't entirely sure where the path ahead would take him.
Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to transport his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin. What about your character you think stood out to the dwarf?: Koyries is a rather good listener who is always willing to hear people out no matter the subject of the conversation and when things get dangerous he will continue onward and perhaps if there's time he'll take notes to make sure he's prepared just in case he was to run into a similar situation or creature down the road. The thought of getting paid to help someone out all the while getting to visit a new place was also quite appealing.
Name of your character: Gelkis StormGem Race:gnome Class: warrior Backstory (a few lines): Born from a long line of gemstone prospectors, Gelkis has spent most to his life inside of mines and panning rivers in search of the ultimate gemstones. Along the way he picked up the skills to defend his claims and stave off the bandits and monsters in the sword mountains he calls home. Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to transport his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin. What about your character you think stood out to the dwarf?: Gundren has had several dealings with the Stormgen family. Gelkis's father has done many trades with the Rockseekers and Gelkis's skill at thwarting bandits has become well known.

Name of your character: Duncan, (former Clan) Goldenbolt Race: Hill Dwarf Class: Ranger Backstory (a few lines): Duncan is the eldest son and next in line for the Chief of his clan a task he trained most of his early life for. Although fate has other plans and during one of Duncan's military tours he got sick with some sort of infection. Seeking medical treatment as soon as he could, he would come to learn that he may only live another 10 years if he is lucky. After finding this out Duncan left home and forsaked his clan name in shame, believing he will never be the man his father hoped him to be. That was 5 years ago, since then he has travelled around looking for work and helping those he meets along the way hoping to assist those who are downtrodden. Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to transport his supplies from Neverwinter to Phandalin. What about your character you think stood out to the dwarf?: The honest and caring nature that Duncan had. I'd like to ask if the longbow may be traded for a heavy crossbow & bolts for aesthetic
and if I may I'd like to use some of Tasha's revisions for Ranger but if not I can work with standard
Yes, that's fine. You can change the weapon and use Tasha's ranger archetypes if you wish.
