The great stone temple complex known as the Candi Baradun was raised by the fallen empire some five hundred years ago, not long after the initial conquest of the trading town of Parakan by the Old Emperor Rakapala.
The temple complex was built at the far western edge of the town and served as home to many of the Empires priests, their families and guardians.
The stones were mortared with the blood of local labourers, their lives spent with casual contempt by their new masters. Vast amounts of stone were quarried from the sacred mountain to build it and when the empire forces were finally forced to retreat none of the locals entered the temple complex built as it was of cursed stone and the blood and bones of their families.
The priests and servants that the Empire left behind soon fell into debauchery and preyed upon the populace of the town until one fateful night the children of the temple aided by indentured servants taken from the town rose up and fell upon their masters and parents, set fire to the temples and accomodations and fled that place never to return.
Ever since then, the complex has been an ill omened place. The stones are shunned, even for repairing the town walls, and children do not dare to play amid its tumbled slabs.
The locals cast out any of their people caught within the ruins, and even the town guard are reluctant to approach it.
Everyone knows that the murdered do not rest easy, and all fear to disturb what might be lost beneath the darkness.
Outsiders are permitted to approach the ruins and the underways that still stand, for why should the Parakans care if some foolish strangers choose to die near their city?
Tieflings: Are generally considered to be the sons and daughters of dukun and their spirit patrons.
Orcs: live on great floating raft islands in the Eastern Ocean and trade and war and intermarry with the human folk of that region, like the humans they share the area with they are vaguely Samoan/Fijian in outlook and culture.
Humans: Are pretty much the backbone of the archipelago being the most common.
Elves: (Orang Bunian) Live within the rainforests of the islands and are seen as messengers of the Forest by some of the forest peoples.
Dwarves: ( Nyol): Come from a great dry land to the south, rare visitors to the archipelago; they have skin the colour of varied stones and their eyes shine like stars.
Halflings: ( Ebu Gogo) From am eastern island in the archipelago, they rarely leave their homeland.
Gnomes: ( Orang Pendek) Very hirsute, forest dwelling on only a few islands. They tend to avoid large towns.
Dragonborn, Lizardfolk ( Serpent-Souls): These folk are a mystery to most....Opal-scaled rainbow hued individuals come from the Nyols homeland, others are the offspring of the draconic Nagah....others yet from far flung climes.
Genasi: Children of powerful jinn and other elemental spirits...The Queen of the Southern Sea is served in her ocean palace by generations of her water genasi children, fire genasi toddlers wander down from the volcanic peaks to the surrounding villages etc.
Goliath: ( Denawa) Descendants of the giants who once ruled the central islands of the archipelago, though their forebears are gone or in hiding goliaths still live in small communities about the island.
Notes:
Parakan is a large trading town on the island of Lokan, there are twenty five hundred souls who live in Parakan. This population is made up of three major groups- native Lokanan ( think Tiwi/Solomons Islanders), Merubat traders and sailors ( think Hakka/Pinoy), and the Garunam descendants of the Imperial settlers ( Javanese/Sumatran).
There are roughly one thousand five hundred Lokanan in the town, five hundred Merubat, and five hundred Garunam.
The Lokanan rule the town. The Mayor is always a Lokanan, of course, chosen from one of the high families.
Most of the town dwellings are stilted rectangular, tiled-roofed houses of carved wooden poles, slotted walls, and rattan matting on the floors.
The Lokanan are largely craftsmen and artisans, fulfilling Parakans ancient role as a city of blacksmiths, weavers, carpenters, leatherworkers, and fabricators of all those things required for sea trade. Surrounding farms, mines and forest harvesting provide trade goods.
Some Lokanan work as menial laborers, but even then they are most often foremen over the work of Merubat or Garunam.
Laws and Customs Laws in Paraku are unsurprising to most outsiders. All the usual sins of violence, theft, fraud, assault on holy places, and insult of authority are treated with typical Lokossan rigor. Those without special status can expect public beatings, fines of silver or goods, or temporary forced labour as punishment for minor crimes not rising to the level of murder, great theft, or assault of an official. Those who transgress in serious matters can expect to be sacrificed at the yearly Tiger Shark Festival unless the Mayor has a more productive use for their lives.
Goods and Services Parakan is a significant trading town, and has many goods and services useful to adventurers. Any ordinary equipment listed can be acquired here, and almost any mundane talent or skill can be found available on the market.
The Districts of Parakan
The Spirit Court- dotted with shrines.
The Fallen Houses- once the quarters of the overflow from the temple complex, it was burned at the same time the temple was and no one dwells here.
The Farm Gate- the southern entrance where most island goods are brought into town.
Mayors Hill- dominated by the mayoral palace.
The Docks- the docks and associated buildings also many Merubat live here.
Garunam Quarter- slightly more run down than others.
The Veiled Garden- Gambling and Pleasure district...popular with sailors.
Smoking Streets- Artisan and Smiths district.
I'm looking for 2 new PCs of 3rd Level. Easiest way to intro you at this juncture is if you both know each other so keep that in mind with your backstories.

My character Dude will be a human bard and could of easily met anyone's character in a bar, inn, or tavern, or on one of the many trails or roads that crisscross the island. Please contact me and we can work out a few details for our backstory on how exactly we met and how well we know each other.

What is the current party composition?
Initial concept is a human Fathomless Warlock with a pirate background. He could easily pal around with the bard from tavern to tavern as he seeks information on the world above for his patron.
Basic idea for his backstory is that Gajesh has been sent on quest to grow his skills as a druid by the elder druid of his tribe that knows their time to become one with nature will soon be upon them. Once that happens Gajesh will become the next druid that protects both his tribe and their ancestral lands. For knowing another character I would perhaps see him acting as something like a guide or perhaps Gajesh sees helping them as way proceed with his given task.
Kingsley Cloudspirit - human - wizard (transmutation) - acolyte
Kingsley is a priest, and the one who performs the rites when a transgression occurs such that sacrifice at the tiger shark festival is required.
He thinks there are snoops at the old abandoned temple, and is looking to get them out and fast. Of course... There are all those mysterious happenings. And a certain morbid curiosity to know what's in there. Maybe just a peek wouldn't hurt.

Cool. I'll give folks another day or so to finish up their concepts and then decide....I always hate that part....
To answer the question above about current party composition:
- Orang Bunian Monk with close ties to the Garunam community leaders
- Orang Bunian Fighter down from their mountain home.
- Garunam/Lokanan Rogue street kid
- Orc Fighter from the eastern sea
- Half-Elf Sorcerer from across the eastern ocean, hailing from a land that is Pre-Columbian Americas carved up by Draconic Overlords.
