Hello! I’m looking for 4-6 players for a long term campaign. Players should post preferably at least 2 times a day. This campaign is 14+ and contains dark themes. It takes place in the Astral Plane which is now home to an ocean of floating islands and other much stranger (and dangerous) oddities.
Here’s the lore dump:
In an ancient calamity the planes were ripped into tiny astral strands, with only some chunks staying intact. The remaining pieces of the planes were pulled Astral Plane through a giant swirling vortex. This calamity is called the Rupture.
Very few survived the Rupture, even fewer survived what was left of the planes. The material plane was left in rocky chunks, mostly parts of cities. The feywilds no longer had the material plane replicate and collapsed into an unfathomable mess of matter and time. The abyss was entirely destroyed, along with the demons. Unlike the demons, the devils mostly survived yet the nine hells were mostly ripped into nothing. Now that they cannot be revived in the rivers of the hells devils have become increasing paranoia, fearing death. The matter in the elemental planes had been scattered around the astral plane, creating odd landscapes of floating oceans and superheated air. Strangely, the celestial planes remained unaffected.
No one is quite sure what happened to the shadowfell.
The Rupture would have been the point in which civilization ended, with no gravity and freezing temperatures survival was impossible. However, the king of the material plane, a human named Barnet discovered a runic alphabet (through means only know to himself) which when a letter is inscribed on an object it would gain a certain magical quality. The most important runes were:
The Rune of Willed Movement, which made the object move wherever the attuned user wants. The object cannot be heavier than 50,000 pounds.
the Rune of Neutrality, which made the area around it have a pleasant temperature.
Rune of Gravity, which created a force which would push down like gravity in a certain direction around the object. The object cannot be heavier than 1,000,000 pounds.
These runes allowed people to recreate cities, now with stable temperatures and gravity. As for moving around the Astral Plane, the Rune of Willed Movement allowed nearly anything to become a floating vehicle, people navigated the astral cosmos using boats, stone slabs, and even houses! These vehicles were eventually referred to as "Floaters". The runes were inscribed onto things using emerald staves distributed and created by King Barnet. As people explored outside the floating islands of the material plane, the staves ended up in the hands (or claws) of those from other planes, creating a new world of floating contraptions and prosperity in the remnants of the planes.
There are many more Runes than these three, many of which King Barnet never showed to the public. He spent most of his time constructing a building the size of a city called the Grand Library. The Grand Library could fly through the air at high speeds and was armed to the teeth with magic and machinery. Thousands, perhaps millions of scholars and sages entered the Grand Library, few left, those who did had a new glimmer in their eyes. King Barnet one day entered the Grand Library and flew off into the Shadowfell. King Barnet and the Grand Library did not return, and the material plane fell into chaos as a power struggle started. People wondered what the purpose of the Grand Library was and why King Barnet left so suddenly. As centuries passed he faded into legend as a crazed king recklessly exploring the unknown.
One thousand years later (or a couple month ago) the Grand Library returned from the Shadowfell. It floated back to the capital city named New Waterdeep which was filled with celebrations and revelry. A couple seconds later the capital was filled with flames and panic. The Grand Library was destroying New Waterdeep! After the onslaught the few survivors saw books, staves, and even corpses being pulled into the Grand Library's doors through cranes and spells. The Grand Library was back to steal knowledge from it's own land.
As the Grand Library pillages the cities and floating contraptions of the material plane, one of the stronger factions, the Pantheon's Brotherhood has recruited you into protecting a secret vault floating in the desolate outskirts of the material plane. The paladins who manage the vault have not told you about what is kept there, but you have heard rumors of a coffin being kept somewhere. As you soon learned, there is far more in store for you than being a guard.
This game will focus on the exploration of the cosmos and roleplaying. It will be on discord and rolling will be done with a bot. You will start at level 3 and will level up through milestones. All classes are allowed but the races tortle and aarakocra are banned. If you find yourself interested in the campaign, friend me on discord. My username is Lorn Fluke#3941
