If you didn't choose the "Witchlight Hand" background the following is for you;
You've been summoned to the abode of a human warlock named Madryck Roslof. He lives in a giant pumpkin farm, sharing his rustic farmhouse space with rodents and pixies. His adventuring day are behind him, and he looks quite old and frail. Nevertheless he is delighted to meet your acquaintance.
"I've acquired many treasures and made many important contacts during my lengthy adventuring career ," says Madryck. "I would like to pass the treasure I possess and the favors I am owed on to you. In exchange, I ask that you travel to Prismeer, a domain in the Feywild, and find out what fate has befallen the archfey that rules it. This archfey, Zybilna, is my patron and inspiration - the source of my power."
Sitting by the hearth he continues, "I have been unable to contact Zybilna for the better part of a year, and I fear something terrible has happened. My adventuring days are over, but Zybilna has been good to me, and i would like to know she's well before I take my leave."
"Every eight years, our world is visited by a traveling extravaganza called the Witchlight Carnival. It recently returned and is camped three days' travel from here. I'm asking you now because this carnival might pack up and leave in a week or two, and it contains your only route to Prismeer - a fey crossing, if you will."
"Seek out Zybilna of Prismeer, help her if you can, and return with proof she is alive and well. Upon your return, all the hard-won earnings of my adventures shall be yours."
Madryck awaits your response to his call and any questions you may have. (Feel free to PM me to get info)
Spoiler below for Witchlight Hand background characters;
Three days ago you were approached by a faerie dragon in service of a human warlock named Madryck Roslof. This faerie dragon foretold the arrival of adventurers seeking a path to the Feywild through the carnival. Although you’ve heard that the carnival contains a fey crossing, you’ve never gone to the trouble of finding it. The faerie dragon thought you might want to help the adventurers. It even went as far as to imply that the fate of the Witchlight carnival might hinge on the success of their endeavors.
As twilight draws near, a large crowd begins to gather outside, eager to buy tickets and enjoy the carnival’s many attractions. As you gaze upon the crowd, one or more visitors catch your eye. Something about them suggests they’re not the usual rabble.
Striding towards the hearth with a foamy orange mug of pumpkin ale is a tall satyr. Rix has the slender legs of a savannah antelope and long, twisting horns. He is dressed in hide and rough cloth and his face is decorated with dried mud.
Rix excitedly sips at the ale while Madryck explains the situation.
"Madryck, thank you for your invitation. I've spent the last 5 years searching for enlightenment in solitude, but no revelation ever came. I was wasting away with no company apart from the other thirsty beasts at the watering hole."
Rix takes a large gulp of ale and smiles.
"A journey to Prismeer sounds like exactly what I need. Point the way, I will seek out your inspiration."
In the corner sits a thin fairy, carefully eyeing the satyr and human. She has choppy navy hair and frayed clothing, amateurly mended with thin thread to still be of functioning use. Translucent wings seem to emanate a fleeting cobalt blue hue.
"I'm Dandelion. Pleasure. Let's head out soon, shall we?" She says no more and looks out the window at the many shades of orange on the farm.
It's been quite a while since Dandelion has been in the fey realm and while the incentive of treasures are extremely tantalizing, a not-so-small part of her longs to see her homeland again.
Madryck snaps his fingers and an array of components in jars and tins start to float toward him from shelves around his home.
"I can see you're both eager to set off, whether it's for the journey ahead or simply the carnival itself. Feel free to finish your preparations here before setting out."
Madryck takes some pinches from the levitating jars around him and tosses them into the fire of the hearth muttering incantations between component additions. Once the last is added the flames of the hearth swell in blue and with a hissing thump an orb is launched up the chimney.
"Now it's been quite awhile since I've been to the Witchlight Fair so attractions may have changed over time but it should still be led by a pair of Shadar-Kai by the names of Mr.Witch and Mr.Light a jolly pair, especially that Mr.Light." Madryck stands and makes his way to front door. "The spell I've cast should help you on your journey but only time will tell."
Stepping outside Madryck peers through his pumpkin patch. With a wave of his hands he floats a pumpkin towards the path leading to and from his home. Swirling it round and round he coats the pumpkin in a mist of magic, when the mist dissipates the gourd resembles a carriage. "This carriage will take you to the carnival before becoming disenchanted. I cannot thank you enough for taking up my quest, and I await your safe return."

Knowledge check concerning the Shadar-Kai: 22
Rix squeezes Madryck's shoulder with one hand and looks him in the eye. "As soon as we discover what has happened to Zybilna, I will let you know. Is there some way we can reach you once we enter the Fey lands?"
Rix gathers his things and leans towards Dandelion asking, "Ready to go?"
Rix knows that Shadar-Kai are elves Native to Shadowfell.
Madryck recalls that these particular pair of Shadar-Kai acquired the Witchlight Carnival more than 100 years ago from an Eladrin, but the name of the Eladrin escapes him.
"Ah that reminds me Rix," Pulling out a parchment Madryck offers is to Rix. "This Scoll of Sending will let you reach out to me once you pass the fey crossing."
Rix dusts off his coinpurse, trying to remember the last time he paid for anything.
”Hmmmm, well I’ve got 5 gold pieces. Hopefully that’s enough to get us in? I’m sure we can work something out if need be, sneaking in just wouldn’t feel right. Plus, I can be quiet when needed but don’t think I’d blend in too easily at a carnival...”
Eager to arrive at the carnival, he anxiously rambles to about all the different ways to get in.
The carriage ride is smooth as the two get more acquainted. Before long the pair arrive at the settlement of Secomber as the morning sun begins to drift down the horizon. The carriage passes the edge of the town and a crowd of citizens can be seen making their way toward the fairgrounds. Pulling up the main entrance, the carriage door swings open to drop the party off before continuing the ditch of the road and deflating into a husk of its former grandeur.
The first stars of the night twinkle above the apricot sunset. Giant dragonflies whir overhead, trailing streamers, and a low mist curls over the ground. Through a floral archway, you glimpse wondrous and vibrant creatures - elf stilt walkers, dancing faeries, and painted performers. Everywhere there is laughter, pixie dust, bubbles, and a wistful tune of a whistling calliope.
Ahead of you a crowd filters toward a ticket booth at a steady pace.
Before the crowd is a small arching bridge that crosses a mote.
Verdana stands guard near the ticket booth, looming over the excited crowd filtering into the carnival. Her stoic face and relaxed demeanor are jarring compared to her jolly coworkers. She turns to a large blink dog, sitting stiffly at her side,
"Anyone look like they're headed to the Feywild, Slob?"
Together they survey the crowd and settle on a strange pair... Slob nudges Verdana's elbow with his strong snout.
"I agree... they don't seem eager to visit the mythical petting zoo."

Rix prods dandelion with a cloven hoof, waking her from a long nap.
"Thanks for listening, I haven't really ever taken the time to tell my story all at once before. It means a lot to me that you asked..."
Rix shakes off the memories of his past.
"Anyways, we're here! Its so beautiful! Has it always looked like this?! I've never seen anything so wonderful!"
Rix heads to the central, highest point of the arched bridge and looks out, trying to judge the situation at the ticket booth and to steal a peek at what waits inside the carnival.
Looking from the crest of the bridge Rix can see the ticket booth manned by a goblin as the excited crowd shuffles into the fair after exchanging coin for tickets and maps. A few Fairgoer parties have stepped to the side to free up the line as they socialize and wait for the rest of their friends. It looks that if you make your way toward booth now you'll be at the front of the line without rustling the feathers of the other parties.
Straight ahead past the ticket booth you see the Big Top tent with its 3 towering peaks, outside the main entrance of the extravagant tent is lined with posters and large painted caricatures of the big top performers.
Under the bridge you hear the squawking of swans. looking over the bridge railing Rix sees enormous swans pulling gondolas at a leisured pace.
Rix makes his way directly to the ticket booth with a smile on his face.
"Good evening! I'm so happy I was able to catch the carnival before you moved on again. How much for a ticket and a map? The journey was a little more taxing on my wallet than I had expected."
He allows his embarrassment to show clearly on his face and taps his coinpurse with no audible 'clink.'
A silver statue of a dancing faerie is mounted on the roof of a ticket booth and surrounded by fluttering butterflies. The booth is decorated with an animated depiction of the night sky, with shooting stars arcing across it. An elderly goblin perches behind the ticket booth counter, peering at you quizzically through a spyglass. He lowers the spyglass and calls you out: “Greetings, Fair Fairgoers!"
"Entry to our extraordinary extravaganza is but 8 silver pieces per....Wait. Hold on a moment." The goblin abruptly stops and swipes up his spyglass once more, looking Rix and Dandelion up and down. "Why you two have already been covered!"
Shuffling some things behind the booth he hands over a pair of tickets, two pairs of size appropriate wearable butterfly wings, and a map of the carnival.
He looks to Dandelion, "Sorry little lady, but the fake wings are here so the staff know you two didn't sneak in."
"Now one ticket are will get you into 8 rides Most here have been buying handfuls, but between you and me two to three tickets each should be plenty to get you through the night."
Dandelion glares at the butterfly wings dangling from her hands.
"I... Am I supposed to wear these over my actual wings? ... We're not doing that."
She shoves her arm through a strap, letting it slide down and dangle from her antecubital.
"Where should we head first? It looks like there are events that happen depending on the time", she points to the top left corner of the map. "Should we head to the Big Top tent? I fancy some free shite, er, welcome gifts."
Rix straightens the wings on his back, and looks over the map.
"You're right! Let's make sure we get to the Big Top in time for the Extravaganza. And I'd like to figure out what this Witchlight Monarch is."
He leans closer to Dandelion, trying to pull her aside as they clear the crowd at the front gate.
Rix, whispering, asks, "Do you know if the passage to Prismeer is open to anyone? Or is it something we shouldn't be too forward about? I don't see a portal or passage marked on the map anywhere..."
"I'd like to try the Mystery Mine first, unless you think there are more welcome gifts than these neat wings! How do I look? They aren't as nice as yours."

The scoll has one use remaining.
Rix thanks Madryck again and boards the carriage, ready to head to the carnival.
"Dandelion, have you ever been to the Witchlight Carnival?"
Dandelion looks over at Rix, unslinging her bag over her shoulder while stepping into the carriage after him. She holds up two fingers.
"I've been twice, in my younger days. Ran off and snuck in, rather. Those trips were my happier memories though."
She shuts the door and lets out a big sigh.
"Alright, let's do this. This better be an all expenses paid type of trip or I'll just have to sneak in again. For old time's sake."
Rix dusts off his coinpurse, trying to remember the last time he paid for anything.

Dandelion pulls her attention away from the window and rolls her eyes at Rix, she'll be damned if she wastes her coin when she can sneak in.
"It'll be fine, we're not hurting anyone by not paying."
She pulls out a small knife and nimbly flips it through each finger continuously.
"We'll probably be stuck in here for a while until we get to the carnival. Satyr, tell me your life story until I fall asleep."
