Name: Malky Noree Race: Gnome Class/Subclass: Artificer / Armorer Background: Archaeologist Simple Backstory: Though most rock gnomes have a talent for tinkering, Malky had always been curious about how previous generations went about it, and thus began his career exploring ancient ruins and museums. One day he found himself in an ancient, now empty, treasure horde left by the Tyrant of years past. While wandering around and re-examining the carvings and notes on the walls, he, rather literally, stumbled through a door that had been hidden for centuries. Inside was only a single suit of armor, but one which he was able to, somehow, understand how to don, and then operate. With his new armor, Malky headed back to Beldrift to do more research on what this ancient marvel would be capable of. Character Sheet: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/39296202/
Thordahr was born in the Factorem District of the city of Beldrift to a prominent family. His family was very close, and he never knew a time when he didn’t have at least one of his parents around. Thordahr was an overly enthusiastic child who thought he knew everything. As he grew older, he tried to be the responsible one, doing what was expected of him. He didn’t have many friends as he always felt like he had to keep an eye on the children of his family. Thordahr joined the worshipers of Elestine at a young age and soon found himself an acolyte in the order dedicated to peace. Eventually, he became a full cleric and has spent his life following the ways of Elestine.
As of late, however, Thordahr has become caught up in the fervor for political change, and has served the past several years as an agent of the Ossric Alliance. They have urged him to keep up his clerical duties so he can recover any useful information from the elites in the temple leadership.

Name: Sieghart Gravenloft
Race: Human
Class/Subclass: Ranger (Hunter)
Background: Celebrity Scion
Backstory: Sieghart is the son of a famous retired general, Leonhardt Gravenloft. He and his twin sister grew up in their estate in the Iron Cauldron, but they would also spend time in the Cloud District as the general’s reputation made him quite popular among the nobles. Because of his father’s accomplishments, there were high expectations of young Sieghart. However, he didn’t show any of the skill his father featured. He was carefree, aloof to the life with high society and sometimes even rude to the highborns. The only activity he really seemed to enjoy were the hunting trips. He felt alive in the great outdoor. Sieghart was also quite good at it. He wielded a bow better than any other weapon. There is one thing that Sieghart hates above all, being compared to his father. His one wish is to be able to achieve great things not as the son of a celebrity, but as his own man. Which is why he decided to leave his life behind and join the Ossric Alliance. He hopes to achieve great things and to be recognized as his own person rather then by the accomplishments of his father.
As a child, Varlan lost an arm. He waited a year for his family to be able to persuade (and pay) a travelling priest to grown him a new one and in that long year he became accustomed to the prosthetic limb his aunt had given him. Thus began an obsession with machines and mechanical improvements to his body that would change his life. He knew, from bitter experience, how frail the body was, and he also knew how powerful (if clumsy) his mechanical arm had been.
His aunt taught him what she could, and on his fifteenth birthday she sent him with letters of introduction to her old teacher. So began a life devoted to machines and, more specifically, machines that enhanced his own abilities.
That was several years ago; Varlan has paid the debts to his teachers in the Factorem and now seems to make his own way in the world on a continuous journey – literally – of "self-improvement". He does not like to be separated from his armour (or any of his machines); to him they are an integral part of who he is and what he is, not mere tools.
The Ossric Alliance have since employed his services investigating mostly minor matters, so he was surprised to be called upon to assist in the recent troubles.
Note: Rolls were awful before I got the erroneous 'manipulated' message (total 68!). Have gone for points-buy.
Backstory: Like many before him, he was born without a copper to his name and parents that barely seen silver. He worked the mines for a while like many before him but found it didn't suit and found less reason to keep it up when his parents was killed in one of the accidents of the mines leaving him without reason to really play too nice. Worked around for some shady types until he got picked up by the alliance by a better offer.

Backstory: Nexiron was adopted by the House of the Shining Sun as an infant. The children raised by the monastery came to the House in one of three ways: (1) their parents had died, and no one else as willing to raise them; (2) their parents needed the money and/or couldn't afford to raise another child and "sold" the child to the House; (3) their parents were arrested by the Protectorate for being traitors. Nexiron fell into the last group. His mother and father, agents for the Ossric Alliance, disappeared when he was 2 years old. An informant told the House that they were imprisoned in the Iron Cauldron. No one had heard of them since then. The members of the House have been careful to keep Nexiron's origin's a secret, telling him that his parents died in a plague that visited the city.
The House is located in the Pauperis, providing aid to the poorest members of society in this area. But, the House is also affiliated with the Ossric Alliance, and trains some of its members to serve the alliance.Nexiron is one of those individuals, posing as a beggar, but, also keeping an eye on the doings of both the Protectorate and the Low Landers.
A lifelong resident of the Crown district, Norros knows little of the hardships below, understanding only that Lowlanders say it's difficult. His role in the Ossric Alliance is more like a hobby, or perhaps a shiny badge to show off to his friends. That said, no one can doubt his ability to help. He has the spark that lets him into the heart. People become desperate for his approval.
Now the Aureum... That's a whole other game. Norros is smart enough to know that's the big game in town, and knows that if anyone but OA gets it, it'll spell disaster.
Backstory: Aurelie grew up in the Pauperis district. Her father, an elf who had inherited a natural affinity for magic from his ancestors, was imprisoned shortly after Aurelie was born, and he has not been seen or heard from in 17 years. The official story is that he was convicted of unauthorized use of magic, but rumors say he was involved in a resistance movement against the government, possibly affiliated with the Lowlanders. Aurelie was raised by her human mother, who worked in the mines, and taught her to stay out of politics as much as possible. They were poor, and Aurelie unfortunately grew up in an neighborhood of despair and petty crime. At age 18, her Sorcerous Wild Magic manifested, and she is still learning to control it, while trying to keep it a secret from the authorities. She decided to affiliate with the Ossric Alliance out of fear that she would be accused of being disloyal to the government and imprisoned like her father.
They say that when you're born in Pauperis you have nowhere to go but up. The truth is you just have nowhere to go... Oh sure, some have escaped the district but Pauperis clings to them like a stench that you can't wash off. You get out, you advance a bit, rise above your station? It can work, but everyone knows... You're Pauperis born and bred til the day you die, even if you are able to move on up to Sedge or Trade or Factorum or even (as if!) Cloud District. Sure, Lando... That may happen once in a lifetime. But even with the fanciest of airs the stink lingers.
Finn Of'Gren accepted this at an early age and instead of raging against it she decided to make the most of it. If all she was ever going to be was Pauperis Scum then she may as well revel in it! The funny thing is, by embracing her lot in life she actually moves in and out of Pauperis and the other districts far more than most. It's a part of the job, after all. Mingling with the other classes, making contacts, learning of scores and marks and angles... See it, want it, take it and then get away with it before anyone is any the wiser. With her skills and gumption, Finn Of'Gren was living the high life. Or, Pauperis' version of it, anyway.
There were whispers, though. Well in her profession there was always whispers but the ones about Aureum were become more and more consistent. The relic, believe it or not, was actually thought to exist. And some of the high and mighty muckety-mucks were all but starting a civil war over the thing. Yeah cause a civil war wouldn't hurt nobody but the peons... Finn's people. It was always the dregs of Pauperis who took it to the back of the head when anything went wrong, wasn't it? So Finn Of'Gren got it in her head that maybe instead of just sitting back and taking advantage of the distractions and opportunities this nonsense was going to cause that she should instead... Maybe see if the thing couldn't be scooped up by her instead. Maybe she'd be able to use the relic, whatever it is, for the good of Pauperis. Or maybe at least for herself... So she found a way in. The Ossric Alliance was trying to play the middle of the road Good Guy role and Finn figured she could work for them and perhaps use them to her advantage... Maybe.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Name: Anvi
Race: Aasimar (Fallen)
Class/Subclass: Warlock of the Undead
Background: Sage
Backstory: Like all too many of Beldrift's citizens, Anvi was born into poverty in the slums of the Pauperis district, but she was not destined to remain there for long. Her parents gave her up to the local clergy shortly after birth, distraught by the unsightly growths which covered her face and the strange visions which preceded her arrival.
Anvi's new family endeavored to keep her sheltered from the outside world, and they were largely successful; she spent the bulk of her formative years cloistered away with her nose in the books, oblivious to the turmoil brewing in the city. As she grew older, however, she grew restless, and began to chafe at her caretakers' restrictions. Under cover of night, she escaped her cloister to explore the city that she hardly knew. And she was horrified by what she saw.
At last, the pieces started falling to place. The cryptic visions that had plagued her dreams since childhood took on a new and terrible meaning. She dove once again into her books, learning all that she could of the Umbral Choir. She was born in the decay, bore its mark upon her face. Was she meant to help bring about the death of the old order? Expose the decaying foundations of the city and bring it all crashing down? There was only one way to find out.
Shortly after her twenty-fifth birthday, Anvi packed her meager belongings and left her cloister for good. When the Ossric Alliance put out a call for volunteers, offered a solution to the violence and destruction left in the wake of the other factions, Anvi jumped at the opportunity to answer. With any luck, they wouldn't be too late.

Maybe.

We're doing one small murder-y thing for a bigger, better reason. The ends justify the means.
