So every 6 seconds it has a chance to escape and ambush us from behind?
We should take care of it somehow, tie it up, kill it, banish it to another plane etc.

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(ooc: for the round it's held we all have advantage and it's a auto crit if we're within 5 feet... so ev1 take a shot, I guess?)
Chadderlay raises his staff above his head with both hands and brings it down in a mighty swing over the Slaad's head. (also going to use Power Strike for an extra 1d6)
Attack: 8 Damage: 10 + 1 bludgeoning damage.
(unless the above attack was a natural crit, here is the crit damage):
7 + 5

2 + 2
Ha ha! The above post is unedited and I actually did get a natural crit.
So the first 2 is discounted and only the second 2 counts toward the crit damage.
Total is 18 bludgeoning damage.

(ooc: some of you should be familiar with my familiar but for the newer members it has been a while.)
Chadderlay will use his action to summon his familiar 30 feet up the stairs and using their telepathic link instruct it to move into the room at the top if it can and dodge at the end of it's turn.
If sight permits any who catch a glimpse will see a black and white tuxedo pattern cat appear and dart up the stairs. Mister Fancy is on the prowl.
Chadderlay will use his movement to begin up the stairs.
"I'll leave it to those with sharper weapons, my familiar, Mister Fancy, and I will meet you at the top."

@Brian_Avery: Is this find familiar? The spell with a 1 hour casting time (plus ten minutes when cast as a ritual)?
At any rate..
Up the stairs you find on the upper floor, a large telescope dominating the thirty-foot-diameter circular chamber at the top of the tower. Gazing into the telescope’s eyepiece is a hulking, frog-like biped in wizard’s robes that pays you no mind as it mumbles to itself.
Adamantine shields cover the observatory’s windows*. A large chunk of stone from another building has crashed through the roof and embedded itself in the floor like a jagged stone knife. This intruding fragment bears a strange inscription on one side.
<*this was an oversight on my part when I was asked earlier if there were windows. Given that they're clad in adamantine and the walls are just stone, I don't think it made too much difference, at least I hope not.>
Slaad Wis save DC20 9
The slaad is paralyzed.
Did you wish to ascend the upper level of the observatory, or deal with the slaad further?
Angus will ascend looking for any clues to unlocking the mystery of the central tower.
Isn't there a save at the end of each round?
So every 6 seconds it has a chance to escape and ambush us from behind?
We should take care of it somehow, tie it up, kill it, banish it to another plane etc.
Yes, please don't waste it. I may not get another chance to be this useful.
<I actually forgot about the additional saves. You guys want to just run this bit cinematically? It would be far more expedient.>

Chadderlay's staff strikes the alien amphibian with a "bonk".
It looks mad.
Angus swings twice at the paralyzed slaad.
First Longsword Attack: 29 Damage: 12 magical slashing + 13 radiant (crit damage already added)
Second Longsword Attack: 28 Damage: 16 magical slashing + 8 radiant (crit damage already added)
Tetrevess casts sacred flame, for 10 HP radiant damage on the paralyzed Slaad. (automatic failure on dex saves)
he says”I don’t want this thing following us, I agree- it dies here..”
So far, 77 to the paralyzed slaad.
Here's rhe save x Paralyzed so I'm not slowing things down by anticlimactic, but I think Sam is still up.
12
So, then it just rolls back to the rest of the party again. The slaad is at the edge of bloodied, it still looks mad.
<it has telepathy, but paralyzed creatures can't use it. It doesnt have too much to say anyhow.>
Sam will move away and cast sacred flame on the creature
18 raident damage
Bouns action war priest
attack 12
damage 11
It failed the check again, party is still up.

Akame walks up to the slaad and casts Guiding Bolt in its face. 21 attack, 33 radiant damage on hit.

Angus again swings twice at the still-paralyzed slaad.
First Longsword Attack: 22 Damage: 17 magical slashing + 11 radiant (crit damage already added)
Second Longsword Attack: 23 Damage: 16 magical slashing + 14 radiant (crit damage already added)
