Dimitri put a hand on the rope, and the other hand on his cane as they strode into the Veiled Forest. He kept quiet, with the lighting from Khessa and T'bitha, listening for any unexpected noises, their footsteps fell onto the deadfalls, with the regular tempo of his cane. He breathed out softly, fingers moving in a specific rhythm, casting Gift of Alacrity and Mage Armor on himself, some tricks he picked up, preparing for any ill-fated encounters.

Tristan waits and takes the rear position. He draws his sword, which also lights up, helping those around without darkvision to see. Drawing a small knife, he cuts the back of his hand, letting the blood flow down the blade. As it does, the light turns from white to a purple glow (Activating crimson rite). That's new. Seems like my magic is affected by these powers as well.
Picking up the rope, he follows the rest of the group into the veil...
"Well this should be interesting."Hadi says, grabbing onto his piece of rope and beginning to follow the others. Seeing Dimitri cast the spell of protection around himself he simply raises an eyebrow in surprise and wonders if he should do the same, though being in the middle, for now will save his spells concentrating on helping find their way through this mist, if possible.

T’bitha grabs onto the rope behind Tristan watching the darkness swallow everyone in front of her. Even with her darkvision it was unnerving not to be able to see as far as she usually can. She keeps her ears open for any sounds that are not made by the party. She especially keeps alert for anything behind them.
”Tristan, was it always just you and your father? What about your mother? What side of the family do you think you’re related to those ancestors of A’yeth Taersi?”

Tristan shakes his head, raising his sword higher above his head. "I had a mother, but she passed a few years before my father. Natural causes, or so the doctor said. Her side of the family was descended from the nobility of A'yeth Taersi. My line is one of the few that survived the disappearance, most likely because we were exiled. That is merely speculation, however, we don't truly know. How about you? What is your story?"

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
You all push into the forest, making slight adjustments in your course as a tree appears in front of you. After about 15 minutes of walking, Khessa and Dimitri, you begin spotting a faint glint of light and you pop out of the forest into a glimmering field, with the bright sky above you. Looking around, the scenery looks familiar. Realizing you must have walked in a circle, you lead the group back in. T'bitha, you don't hear anything moving through the forest, that isn't your group. The loudest thing you hear is the sound of twigs breaking under their feet and the conversations going on. After 30 more minutes of traveling, you come across an open glade. As you step in between the two thick trees, the vision that you're accustomed to returns to you. You seem to be in an enclosed clearing, thick trees create a palisade-style barricade leaving only one entrance or exit from this clearing. Sitting in the middle of the glade stands a single, 10 foot tall, red barked thorned tree. Small red bulbs hanging from its limbs. The clearing is circular in shape with a 60 foot diameter.
Dimitri squinted his eyes at the sudden light, realizing the odd scenery in front of him. The open glade was an eerie sight in the dark forest. It was almost like the forest were avoiding this red tree, impossible to say out of reverence or fear, if the palisade was to keep something out or keep something in. He turned to glance at Tristan and T'bitha - theoretically the two people most knowledgable about the Veiled Forest - nodded his head towards the tree. "Ideas?"
((does it look like the red tree was illuminating the glade?))
"I had a mother, but she passed a few years before my father. Natural causes, or so the doctor said. Her side of the family was descended from the nobility of A'yeth Taersi. “My story is with Eilistraee. My eyes were illuminated with her vision of a life free from a monster that dominates my people. I fled the Underdark when I realized there was nothing left there for me. It took me time to realize that I can do more good with surface dwellers. My life is above ground now and I can never go back. I don’t want to go back.”
T’bitha pauses as soon as she sees the tree, trying to recall any details from the books she’s read from Ozemon’s library.
Noticing how all party members prove capable of casting spells, Khessa widens her eyes in surprise and interest. "I can learn a lot from them!" she thinks excitedly. Maybe it is because she is too distracted by this tempting perspective, that she doesn't notice that she is leading the party in circles...
"I agree that this very peculiar forest is confusing" she thinks to herself "but I have to make sure to stay focused".
And finally the blonde arcane warrior finds herself at Dimitri's side, in front of the open glade with the red barked thorned tree. Hearing him asking for ideas, she begins to think aloud: "The crypt is clearly not in the glade. So if we are to be practical, perhaps the best (and safest) course of action would be NOT to go inside and rather walk in the forest, around this glade. But such a plant intrigues me a lot... I've never seen anything like it! I'd like to examine it... it could certainly be dangerous, since the forest hasn't grown around it, but it could also be useful... What if it hides a secret to clear the veil effect of the forest, for example? Anyway, does anyone, unlike me, know anything about this tree?"
Seeing the tree, Hadi swirls his hand in the air causing a spectral version to appear directly in front of it which he then directs towards the tree to pluck one of the red bulbs. At the same time Laza takes off from Hadi’s shoulder and circles up above to see if there is anything else moving in the glade ((perception 10)).
T'bitha, if there was anything in the journals or books about this tree, you've not found it. Your mind absolutely blanks when it comes to this strange tree. Hadi, Laza flies up to the canopy of the glade and circles around. Laza doesn't see anything other than you and the tree in the glade, and no movement. Khessa, while you've heard of redwood trees, you've never heard of one that looks like this, let alone one that grows, what appear to be fruits. Hadi, you send your spectral hand to pluck the bulb and call it back. When it returns to you, you observe the bulb in a better light, and much closer. The skin of the bulb looks almost translucent, and there appears to be a viscusy fluid inside.

”I have not come across anything like this in any of the books or journals I’ve perused. It is strangely beautiful.”
T’bitha gently touches Tristan’s forearm as she walks by him and says, “May Eilistraee find favor with you. Search your ancestral past, maybe this is something you know deep in your knowledge?” ((OOC- Guidance cantrip add 1d4 to any skill check))
T’bitha approaches the tree both curious and fascinated.
T'bitha, as you approach this tree, you begin feeling this pulling sensation, like the tree is calling to you. Make a wisdom saving throw for me as you continue to approach.
Hadi, as you watch T'bitha approach the tree, you smell the bulb. It gives off a very faint smell, you assume it's the liquid inside actually giving off this smell, but it has a faint metallic smell to it, with a hint of bitterness. You assume, to get a better smell, you'd need to open the bulb up.
Plucking a fruit Tristan shakes his head. "No, nothing about this forest is anything like I kne- I mean what was written about. It used to be a place of light and beauty. Now it feels as if something is draining all the life out of the forest, leaving behind a rotting husk." Just like me.
Even so, Tristan takes a look at the fruit, wondering if it may be edible. The gods know we could use some luck right about now.
Khessa, intrigued by Hadi sniffing the bulb, asks: "What does it smell like?" But she then she decides: "But what do I waste time asking him? I better try it for myself..." and she brings her face close to that of the elf, trying to identify the scent of the liquin inside.
"Hmmm... faint metallic smell... a hint of bitterness... and the color it has..." a thought crosses her mind like a flash "but isn't it... BLOOD ?! And if it is..."
"T'bitha! Tristan!" she calls her urgently, gesturing "Come back! I'm afraid the liquid inside the fruit might be... BLOOD! And if so, this plant is likely to have really questionable eating habits!"
T'bitha, you shake off this strong desire you suddenly got to hug this tree, which looking at the thorns on this thing, is a really good thing. Now that you're closer to the tree, these thorns are like 4 inches long, and they look extremely fine pointed. Perfectly pokey.
Tristan, since it sounds like you walked up to the tree to pluck one of these fruit/bulbs. I need a wisdom saving throw from you as well. As you touch this thing to pull it free you can feel it pulsing in your hand, as if you're holding a beating heart, it continues to pulse after you pick it for a moment, gradually coming to a stop.
