You notice that there are several people that seem to be walking around. You try to focus on them but you can't really see anything wrong or out of the ordinary.
Maev manages to compose herself and turns her attention from the grumpy dwarf Rosado to what seems to have captured the dwarf's attention. As the forest child turns to take a closer look herself she hears Bayrith chatting away, "Yes, I will tell you whats wrong, we're not in a nice tavern yet!"... "Come now all, we mustn't dawdle!"
The Gnome shrugs and follows along, far be it from she to be the one who dawdles... her appraising gaze locked upon the sight before her of the buildings and people as she continues following her rag-tag little group. Then as they get closer she gives Rosado's dwarven bum a playful slap, "come on grumpy-bear, let's go find that tavern... first round is on you right?"

Somehow I get the feeling the tavern isn't going to be quite as comfortable as I remember...Narstin says as he peers ahead at the cluster of buildings, trying to discern why it seems off.
Just like Rosado, you see people going about, but you notice that there's this melancholic expression on many of them. This becomes more evident as you all come closer to the town.
The people look ragged and sad, many of them coughing, sneezing, and shaking. They also frail and starved, which is weird considering they are a town on the main road. Even in their conditions, you can see that men still push carts of stones off to somewhere and women still carry baskets full of bread and fruit for their own homes. It would seem as if the entire town has been struck with some sort of illness.
Narstin's steps slow as he takes in the condition of the townsfolk. These people all look sick. What could plague an entire town at once? And do we really want to walk in and expose ourselves to that?

Bayrith, still muttering to himself, trudging along with his head down, finally looks up hearing Narstin's words. He stops and looks around, actually taking in his surroundings for once.

"Hmmmm, very peculiar indeed. I wonder" he says to himself, half thinking. "Definitely strange, might be a good opportunity.....we'll know more soon."
He begins to make his way towards the nearest town person.
Maev gives Narstin a look not sure she correctly understood the meaning of his words... then shrugs and shakes her head turning to Fionnagreeing with his words, "but we cant leave them like this I don't think." The little Hedge Witch nods her head in agreement, "yes... we just cannot just leave them to their fate, without at least seeing what is afoot, determine if we can render aid in healing them or perhaps even finding the cause of this strange malady."

You go towards an old man who sits on a small rocking chair, humming to himself. As you approach closer, he notices you and looks directly at you.
"Welcome to the town of Delving, traveler," he says. He gives out a very loud series of coughs before he composes himself and speaks again.
"Sorry if the entire place seems as bit... sickly. But I assure you, there is nothing for you to worry. This illness isn't something that spreads naturally. At least, that's what the local priests say. Anyways, welcome!"
He smiles before he gets hit by another coughing fit, this time much more violent than the one before.
Rosado will leave talking to stranger to holly boy (Narstin)
He will shift to the back of the group and slowly turn around with his crossbow still in his hand. You never want be suprised from the back.(crossbow is pointed to the ground. Rosado does not want to threaten townsfolk)
He will say to himself but quite openly "Bloody, what have you dug from the rocks to bring it to yourself"

Bayrith, starts examining the villager despite any protests. Just rudimentary examination, he feels for a fever, examines any exposed skin for any signs of rashes or boils.
Medicine:12
"HHmmmm, I'll need more information than this." he says to himself before continuing to ask questions to the villager. "When did this start? Who was the first to become ailed by this affliction? Does everyone have the same symptoms?"
The whole time he is badgering the villager he continues with his "examination".

You try to relate this to anything you've learned or seen before, but nothing seems to ring a bell save for maybe a common cold. This doesn't look like any natural sickness or ailment to you.
As you examine him, you notice no physical ailments except for maybe a few warts on the old man's face, but they seem to be normal warts. You do however find that he has a very high fever but what's strange is that it seems to fluctuate wildly.
"Oh what are you... oh well it all started about 5 days ago. A green fog suddenly blew over from the mines nearby. It spread across the entire town and then it disappeared as suddenly as it came. The next day, people started becoming sick real fast and having a hard cough, sneezing, shivers, and cold sweats. Our priests examined every single sick person and tried every known remedy but to no avail. Then our local alchemist examined some sample spit and blood and noted that they reacted to magic sensing devices and found that they weren't able to infect bodily cells, whatever that means. Now everyone in the whole town's sick, but still we carry on doing our labors 'cuz if no one works, then this town would be filled with nothing but ghosts right about now."
Bayrith, reaches into the folds of his clothes and pulls out a small book. He begins to write notes from the villager's answers on it as he turns to leave, not saying anything else to the old man, and walks back towards the rest of his group to tell them about his new found information.
Fionn looks up. "An just where may these priests of yers be found good sir?" he looks around for a temple or church
Investigation. 12
"They're over by the church in the town's center. I do believe they're still there right now, unless they're at the tavern, trying to heal the more extreme cases."
As you look over at the buildings, you notice that there's what seems to be a be a tall belfry that you can see, peeking through the line of roofs.
"If you were thinking of goin' there, just go straight down the road and take a left at the triple junction. You can't miss it."

Maev allows the healer's peace to work and continue their investigations into the strange illness, while she heads off looking for the villagepub, tavern or inn to get a drink and see what she can find out about the strange cloud or fog... whatever that had come from the mine before all this had started. Looking to inquire about the mine itself, it's history, reputation, if it is still being worked or has been abandoned or not, etc.

You ask around concerning the mine, but many people are either too busy or don't notice you to answer any of your queries. At most, you gather that this town's main export is iron that comes from the mine but that's all the information you can get.
Meanwhile, your search for a tavern leads you to a large building made of stone and wood further down the road. Outside the door hangs a sign with a carving of a pickaxe broken at the shaft and the name "The Broken Pick" below it. Inside, you hear muffled groans and moaning.
Maev listens to the sound of muffled groans and moans coming from inside and opens the door, needing that drink now more than ever... but curious as to what the sounds are about as she strides inside...
