Vanir, your performance is worse than your average, but not at all bad. Cassia, your performance is above average, and you can see everyone but Gundren at the gate. Just then, you can see him on a horse riding twords you. He has his horse, another horse, and a giant cart pulled by 2 oxen. "Finally back, we can begin the journey back now. This is also where we separate. Me and Sildar will wait in Phandelver. Any questions before we leave?"
"Are you expecting any trouble for us along the way? And just in case we have to fight our way through, do you happen to have some healing potions for us?" "Also, any special instructions, like: 'Don't peak under the cover to see what you're carrying'?"
To the others, Beowulf says, "By the way, just a suggestion to the team: We might want to consider our positions as we travel, in case of attack. Those who have the highest Perception ability would do well to be up front, so they can spot any danger." "Ideas... anyone?"
"Just don't use the items inside." Gundren says, "Someone also needs to drive it, or the oxen will just stop." I was going to ask for the marching order, so thanks for bringing that up.
"In case there is a sneak attack from behind us, it's probably best if I take up a position to watch our backs.", I say to the team.
NOTES to DM: As we travel down the road, I will constantly be scanning the road behind and to the sides, for any signs of danger. With each night's rest, we'll establish a rotation for who's on watch. We'll hobble the oxen, to see to it they don't run off, in case of any attack.
To Sildar I make the request, "I assume you have the stake, chain and leg irons to hobble the oxen each night, correct?"
Again to the team I ask, "Who's going to drive the cart? This should be someone with high perception ability, in order to spot danger ahead. Sorry Cassia, but you may not be well suited to handle a pair of oxen."
"So Vanir, would you be willing to drive the cart, while Cassia rides beside you, keeping an eye out for danger?" "How does that plan sound to each of you?"
Beowulf takes up his position behind the cart. Offering a silent prayer for protection, he then exclaims, "Fortune favors the bold, let's be on our way!".
[[Apologies for my absence, I won't let it repeat. Let's assume Gwylla has been following, but her nose stuck in a book.]]
Seeing as the going will be easy to keep up with on foot, Gwylla will walk behind the cart. She calls up her familiar, a raven, and has her perch atop the cart. She also casts mage armor on herself for protection.

You've been on the Triboar Trail for about half a day. As you come around a bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty get ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickness on either side.
This looks like a perfect spot for an ambush. The question is: Did it already happen, or are the dead horses part of the ruse to block us and trap us. "Halt the cart immediately.", I say to Vanir. "Prepare yourselves for battle." I have my sword out and shield up, as I look first behind then on both sides. "You might want to take cover under or around the cart." I say to Cassia specifically, but to the party in general for anyone who might be better served fighting at a distance from cover. "Vanir, apply the brake and lock the reigns in place." To Gwylla I ask, "Might your raven help us to see whether or not there are opponents in the woods to either side of the trail? Make sure the bird flies high enough to be out of arrow or bolt range, if you choose to send it up."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gwylla telepathically commands Lenore to fly up about 200ft and circle around. Once she is at altitude, Gwylla goes into a trance and sees through the raven's eyes.
Sorry for the late response. We just finished our weekly training at the fire station. So... back to the story...
After putting some large branches in front of and behind one of the cart's wheels (as chocks), Beowulf stands guard next to Gwylla, to protect her while she's in a trance, watching all around the trail behind the cart and to the sides.
To Vanir and Cassia I say, " Do you see anything in the woods on either side of the trail, near the dead horses? Are either of you any good at hiding? We need to get a better idea of what's going on up there. ".
"If someone in our party is stealthy enough to go undetected, we might gain an advantage by knowing what we're up against."

"Welcome back Cassia. I'm ready. Did you know that some of those ships in the harbor have 3 masts and are taller than the buildings in Phandalin?"
Vanir is relaxing near by, just practicing his Viol (Performance Roll: 7).

The highest perception is spilt between Cassia and Gwylla work a +4. Gwylla had only posted once, however.
