Few know of the existence of the Druidic Circle of Light. The DCL hides its existence, even from other druids, due to its controversial philosophy and methods. All Druids value the balance of Chaos and Law, selfishness and self-sacrifice found in the natural world. But a small but influential number of Druids looked at the world around them, and realized that in many places, especially the large cities, Chaosand Evil were gaining the upper hand. The rich and powerful oppress the weak and the poor, and their cruelties go unpunished. More often than not, city guards and sheriffs are bribed into looking the other way, as the lower classes of society are forced almost into slavery by the unethical actions of merchants, politicians and aristocrats. The concerned druids saw no hope that this situation would rectify itself anytime soon. But the majority of senior druids seemed content to sit back and let the struggle between Lightand Darkness play out without interference
The group began to meet in secret so as not to attract condemnation from their more aloof brethren, and called themselves the Circle of Light. While still officially maintaining a True Neutral alignment, they have begun to create special teams of non-druids to tip the scales back away from evil, and restore balance to the world.
These "Balance Teams" each have a unique group of individuals specially trained with physical and magical skills to accomplish missions that will even the odds. The DCL determines where "adjustments" need to be made, and the teams each receive their instructions from a druidic liaison. They have the freedom to accomplish their mission however they can, but with the understanding that their goal is to increase the influence of goodness in the world.
Team 2 is comprised of Dwarven specialists that openly combat forces of evil, taking on gangs and private militias that prop up the corruption of the rich. They never directly attack government forces however, and try to avoid battles in crowded places to avoid unintended casualties.
Team 3 is made up of Elves, and designed for more covert operations. Their strengths lie in gathering information, disrupting the business and reducing financial resources of criminals, and occasionally assassinating particularly cruel leaders in secret. They also are encouraged to avoid injury to those not directly involved in evil undertakings.
Nothing is known of the mysterious Team 1.

Through his years spent as a soldier, Tane had always felt like there was a better way to deal with his enemies. Head on combat did not suit him, so he was placed in a small squadron tasked with scouting, hunting, or spying on enemy troops. This did not allow for much head on combat, for which Tane was grateful. However, small skirmishes were not always unavoidable. One such skirmish left him the only survivor of his squadron. This was the last straw; he was done with the army. He left without saying a word to his commanding officers.
After the incident, Tane spent his time alone in the woods. Eventually, he started hunting down bandits, stopping them before they could hurt anyone. Occasionally, he would take on the job of a mercenary or bounty hunter. Though he would only take on jobs that dealt with taking out or sabotaging evildoers.

Brief Backstory: Kyrsa was a soldier of moderate rank for a long time. However, she grew to realize that those higher than her had no love for those that served them. She witnessed many horrors that could have been prevented if only her superiors listened to her. If only they cared about the lives in the balance. With this realization, she left the army as soon as she could. She found peace in defending the small towns she encountered on her travels. But she couldn't flee from the guild she felt for leading so many to their deaths. She had no surviving family, as all of her close relatives had also been a part of the army. All of them died in battles she knew were doomed to fail. So she kept moving, hoping to find something to cling to. Somewhere she could put her skills to good use. When the circle of light reached out to her, she accepted without hesitance, ready to serve someone, anyone who truly cared about the ones they were supposed to protect.
Brief Backstory :Winter was raised in an orphanage, it is unknown to him what happened to his parents and why he grew up in the awful place. He was a shy lad. always keeping to himself and take long to open up. One day at the orphanage someone took notice of him, and took him home. He didn't want to go somewhere new, but the mysterious stranger didn't care. The stranger showed him to a city below the city where there were people of various things. The stranger always told him to keep close and stay quiet. The stranger, now his new Mother taught him the ways of the land and the art of sneaking. She used his quiet nature to steal insignificant things and eventually he became bolder and bolder. Eventually he stole something rather interesting, a note that was for someone else, this note containing information about the druid of light and how they need deception and thievery. Intreged, he tells his mom that he's going out and he will be back with treasure one day. He heads off to see about applying to the druid of light elven covert operations.
Backstory: Born the middle of three, Jhaaraed knew he would be dedicated to the study of the weave from the moment his oldest sister chose her path as cleric. The family tradition held: one to the gods, one to the weave, one to the arts. As it was, he and his siblings entered the world precisely in that order and with the appropriate abilities.
Fond of his sister, he would often visit her when wandering for his studies. Upon one such visit, he was troubled to find the clerics struggling to battle an illness which poisoned bodies and land. Although they would counter its physical source, its roots ran deeper. Whenever they would quell an outbreak, it would pop up again a few settlements away, sometimes at two or more, sometimes in opposite directions. Ultimately, he discovered it to originate from people who in their desperation or envy had given in to using potions sold by a band of charlatans. The charlatans were captured eventually, but the damage they had done was deep. The people had turned inwards upon themselves with disregard toward others. They poisoned others' land for their own gain. They used chemicals to simplify their lives regardless of the cost to others and the land. This change was worse than any magic, it came from their hearts. Could magic even help?
While he initially thought transmutation or even standard elven alchemy might help, he found them to be only superficial aids - and sometimes with even further damaging consequences. His mentor guided him toward enchantment, instructing him that the transmutation of the heart can be effected upon others, by our words and actions - that by revealing the splendor of the weave, even the darkest bile can be changed to ambrosia. And so he began his studies in earnest...
Brief Backstory: Born to a minor noble family, Galinndan's life was easy. At least, until he learned enough to start questioning things. And very soon it became easy again, as he learned not to voice those questions of his. But they never left his mind, and while he visibly spent his days hanging in court, learning a bit of magic and trying various hobbies, he secretly started to learn more shady skills. Starting with disguises, by taking up acting, which he used to mingle with commoners and thus learning more about how things really were. This cemented his dislike of the noble life, living in ease not caring about the problems of others. He started learning more in secret, but kept up attending court to learn more of his now enemies. Eventually he felt he was old enough and knew enough to start making a change, but apparently someone had noticed his 'side-studies', as a druid approached him...
Brief Backstory: Chalyssa comes from a long line of elven vintners but never really fit in to the family business.....or the family social scene either........or family functions....lets just say she was the black sheep and leave it at that. When she left home to sign on with the estate guards of one of their suppliers there was a collective sigh of relief all round.
Brief Backstory: Born in a devoutly Lolth-worshipping city in the underdark, Dalarian escaped to the surface world as soon as it was possible. First he tried making a living with his art, trying not to get involved with mortal affairs, he could not stand to see how similar the darker parts of the surface world were to his original home. He began waging war against the worst of the lot. He drew the attaention of the DCL, and signed up as their mission and his were quite compatible.

Brief Backstory: Raban started on the wrong side of this conflict. Coming of age among other streetkids, they worked odd jobs for the corrupt merchant and noble class until Raban was forced to reckon with the fact that they and their kith were expendable in the eyes of the powerful. After barely surviving a bad scrape between two noble's personal armies, Raban was found by a a Circle of Light member, healed, and given a new purpose in disrupting the corrupt reach of the oligarchs of the city, as well as finding out what happened to their found family of misfits and urchins.

Alignment: Chaotic Good
Background: Criminal/spy
Backstory:
"Abandoned by our family, my brother and I found our way in the world by simply taking what we needed. Mind you, we only took from those who had something they didn’t need... most of the time. We moved from village to village, city to city, avoiding attention. Until one day, they found us. We fought until we could no longer stand. They beat us until we could barely breathe. I woke up a day later. In the bed of a kind soul who took pity on me. Blast me, I can’t recall his name. To my dismay, My brother wasn’t so lucky. Once I could stand, I thanked my savior and made my way to the ones who hurt me. I found three of them, at night in a tavern, laughing and drinking. Anger stirred within me. Before I knew it, they were all dead. Phantom like blades disappeared from their chests only to reappear in my hands. It scared me, but the fear was outweighed by my satisfaction. I walked into the tavern, ignoring the startled stares of those around me. I took anything valuable off the dead, then left, closing the door behind me. I made my way back to the house of my savior. I did not talk to him again, rather I left him the money I had acquired, by dropping in through the window. After all, no deed should go unrewarded, good or bad."
After Elran’s (Akyan’s brother) death, Akyan began drifting away from thievery and other petty crimes. He became a hired assassin or bounty hunter, or would take on jobs that involved stealing personal information or family heirlooms. He would travel from town to town, city to city, to find these jobs.
Note: (Akyan did not grow up among other drow. Because of this, he did not undergo the combat training that most drow go through. Elran was trained by other drow and did start training Akyan. As a result, Akyan is skilled with a blade, more skilled than the average person, but definitely not the most skilled.
Elran also affected Akyan’s view of life and how to treat others. Elran always repaid depts and acts of kindness, oftentimes with greater kindness, no matter how long it took him to do so. This part of Elran has stuck with Akyan, even if it is a bit twisted.
Elran didn’t speak of their parents much he often avoided the subject. This lead to Akyan believing that they were abandoned by their family, when in reality, it was Elran who left, taking Akyan with him to escape their abusive family.)
Elran had always been his conscious. Since he is gone, there was no one to keep Akyan walking in the right direction. Akyan never really thought about who he worked for, or questioned the motives of who hired him. Most of them wanted revenge and that was something he understood. However, eventually he started to realize that, at times, he was hurting people who didn’t deserve to be hurt.
After realizing this he reverted to his old way of living, stealing what he needed to survive. He kept on this way for a few years. Unfortunately, many towns had learned his face.
One night, he decided to sleep in a stable loft. This was something he had done when he was younger, and kept on doing, in order to get out of the weather and not have to stay in an inn. However, this time a villager had seen him go in and alerted the guards. Soon after the guards burst into the stable to arrest him. After this, an old man ran into the stable demanding to know what all the ruckus was about. The guards tried to explain, but the man denied them claiming Akyan was his stable hand.
Later Akyan learned that the man, whose name was Teff, was a retired horse soldier, who ran a large horse training/breeding/selling business. He made most of his money by capturing and training the wild horses that lived in the mountains outside the city. These horses were widely sought after for war horses.
In order to repay Teff, Akyan took on the role of stable hand. He spent about ten years living with him. In this time he learned all he knows about horses. This is where he got his first horse. Teff also gave him rights to choose a horse out of any round up whenever he needs a new mount.
Teff also had a son named Simon. Simon never protested against Akyan staying with them, but he made it clear, (to Akyan at least) that he didn’t like him. Akyan eventually found out that the reason Simon didn’t like him, was partly because he new he was a criminal, partly because he is a drow, but mostly because he didn’t like sharing the ranch with a stranger.
Akyan only left Teff’s ranch after Teff died. By that time Simon had been married, and started taking control of the ranch. A few days after Teff died, Simon told Akyan to leave saying, “Having a dark elf around is bad for business.”
After leaving Teff’s ranch, Akyan began taking on similar jobs as before. However, he was a lot more careful about who he took jobs from.

After barely surviving a bad scrape between two noble's personal armies, Raban was found by a a Circle of Light member, healed, and given a new purpose in disrupting the corrupt reach of the oligarchs of the city, as well as finding out what happened to their found family of misfits and urchins.
Will you be sharing content for this Campaign? I have another character I started playing in a different Campaign (which seams to have stopped for now) that I would like to play. I just don't have access to either Drow or Soulknife. If not, no worries, just thought I'd put him out there.

Edit: I realized i forgot to add my character alignment.
