Hello there! My name is Eli and I am looking to recruit players for a new Play by Post campaign I've titled, Seeds of Fate. This campaign will be somewhat unique in that nothing has been prepared yet - the seeds of fate have yet to be sown. That's where you come in!
Together, we are going to seed the world that we want to play in. One massive adult-sized sandbox for us to roleplay are greatest fantasies out in (within reason - don’t be a perv ) . I will shamelessly say that we are going to be adapting the 10 Truths idea from the RPG Ironsworn to do this, but in a little bit of a different style. The players will provide 6 truths about the world, while I will provide the other 4 (and fill in the blanks, connect the dots, etc. - you know, DM stuffs.) Beyond the 6 player provided truths, there will be many opportunities where I will ask for player input on details so as to continue the theme of cooperative worldbuilding.
We will play and discuss the game in discord with Avrae the bot at as our Roll Facilitator. I will have a discord channel for discussion and notes, while the play channel will be on DDB.
I am looking for 6 players/worldbuilders that want to embark on this journey. The play by post application will be as follows:
1. Your preferred name and pronouns
2. Your experience as a dungeon master and/or worldbuilding
3. Your experience roleplaying
3. Your experience with play by post, including frequency of posts
4. Your timezone
5. Your one truth that you would like the world to contain - This can pertain to culture, populations, environments, realms, politics, trade, threats, etc. Get creative! If you have a backstory in mind, you can use this to build up your origins proper!
6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain.
My Four Truths:
1. The campaign will take place in the 'flintlock' era, in whereas the first prototypes of firearms have been invented. They are quite rare and valuable.
2. The world is separated into five continents, the one in the center called the Crosslands. It is by far the smallest of the continents, but is the central hub of trade in the realm. It is the most civilized and most populated, but also the largest factor in wealth inequality. The rich live in lavish castles while the wretched struggle to survive. The party will have met in the Crosslands, though might not begin their adventures there.
3. The are rumors from the High Study within the Crosslands of a new technology being developed - one that combines both magic and mechanics. Some believe that it is the future of the world, while doomsayers claim it will seal its end.
4. The continent to the south of the Crosslands is a land overrun with giants called Noregard. Those sentenced to crimes punishable by death are exiled there. Survival is unlikely.
Once we have our 10 truths assembled, I will begin to create the world and you will all start at level 1/4 (using a 1/4 cr stat block of your choice pending approval). Once we have our 10 truths assembled, we will discuss characters. You will all start at level 1 and we will roll for stats!
This sounds fantastic! I love the idea of using tools from other RPG's to enhance 5E PbP games.
1. AJ (She/Her) 2. Three years experience as DM. I tend to run games in existing worlds but with my own lore. Mostly that's because I like making lore, but suck at making maps :D 3. Three years experience in varying RPG's: 5E, Pathfinder and recently been playing Blades in the Dark. 4. Two years experience with PbP using Discord and Avrae. Due to health reasons it is the format that works best for me. I am online regularly and can post as often as necessary to keep the story flowing. I will always communicate if I need to be offline for any extended period of time. 5. Timezone is GMT+10 (Australia) 6. Each of the five continents are known for a particular mineral that can only be found in that land. Historians and geologists posit this is only possible if each continent were created simultaneously and manifested quickly. Each mineral can be used to make particular items and trade of the mineral is controlled by the continent that produces it. The Crosslands is where the raw materials for flintlock firearms are produced. (I left a lot of details vague on purpose so it can be fleshed out later if I am selected). 7. There are rumours that the new technology being developed will require minerals from all five continents.
Experience: Started in AD&D playing and DM’ing. Picked it back up 3+ years ago, doing in-person, virtual and play-by-post; posting generally once or twice a day.
magic is alive and well. Anyone can create magic items with enough time, skill and a bit of luck.
I hear there is a thriving community on the continent south of Crossland that has struck a deal with the Noregard’s.
2) I’ve never DMed. But I do have minor experience with world building. 3) I’m new to play-by-post, and to DnD really. I totally understand if you don’t want a newbie! I’m not sure how frequently I’d be able to post, but I’ll certainly try not to ignore anything and I’ll most assuredly say if I won’t be able to post for a while.
4) Eastern Standard Time 5) One truth: domestic magic is common in most places on the five continents. By domestic magic, I mostly just mean remotely controlling small objects, like if someone charmed a needle to see without being held. 6) rumors of a mineral that amplifies a magic weilder’s power by a hundredfold.
2. Started playing D&D in high school, DMing in college - which is to say a long time ago. I've dabbled in world-building but I'm better at filling in gaps and adding to existing than creating a world from scratch. So, I've mostly done existing campaigns and altered them to my party's whims and foibles into a larger sandbox.
3. Not a lot of RP experience, though not for a lack of trying. I have the unfortunate luck of finding many groups that strategize more than roleplay.
4. Similar to above. The few attempts at PbP have ended much sooner than planned or expected.
5. Central Standard Time, USA.
6. Each continent's politics are decidedly different, matching their government to their for what their kingdom/country is famous. For example, the Northern Kingdom, being more frigid and barren of animal life but abundant in ore-rich mountains and forests, is ruled by the toughest challenger for life, decided by ritualistic combative and survivalist games.
7. The most zealous of any religion or faith swear their God(s) were once mortals that ascended to become powerful deities. Then again, those with the least conviction claim the opposite - that the Gods were stripped of their supernatural abilities through the ingenuity of mortals.
Hi! This sounds really great and right up my alley! I'd be super excited to join in! My Discord is WishIHadSalad#1400
1. Liza, she/her
2. I have DMed before, only for a couple of one-shots that I more-or-less forced my friends into lol. I have two PbP Discord servers that I also run. Though, my major in college is creative writing, so I know quite a bit about Storytelling lol.
3. RP is my favorite thing about D&D! I've played 5e for the past three years, and roleplay has been the thing I lean towards every time. I just love telling a good story and being able to get myself lost in the characters.
3. Like I said, I run 2 servers so I know quite a bit about PbP. I can and will usually post quite frequently, tbh I probably have to restrain myself more often than not from replying too much!
4. EST
5. There's a mysterious and terrifying assassin that lives somewhere within the world, only often living through rumor rather than sighting. People call them "Whisper," mostly due to the signature "shushing" motion they do to their victims as they die. Nobody can seem to agree on what Whisper looks like, some claiming them to be an elf while others might say a tiefling. As their marks have no consistency or reason- with them targeting both powerful people and rural nobodies alike- it is largely impossible to know where they'll strike next.
6. There's a power struggle currently happening on the Crosslands. The richest people there are trying desperately to gain more and more power over the poor majority, and others are trying to desperately keep up. There's even talk of a coup in motion.
1. Your preferred name and pronouns - Vos (He / Him)
2. Your experience as a dungeon master and/or worldbuilding - ~20 years?
3. Your experience roleplaying - ~20 years (Is there a difference, really? A DM must roleplay all the NPCs!)
3. Your experience with play by post, including frequency of posts - January 2022, at least once per day but sometimes much more.
4. Your timezone - PST
5. Your one truth that you would like the world to contain - Magic and technology are in fact opposing forces. Heavy concentrations of the two too near one another can result in Chaos Energies being released - there is a reason the doomsayers are worried. However, if such a merger were possible... it would change everything. [Game mechanics-wise, low-level magic users can play around all day long with technological items, however, a level 20 arcanist or diviner next to a steam engine would spell disaster for both.]
6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain. - Piracy has always been a problem in the seas and oceans surrounding the Crosslands, but recently sailors speak of a vast Dread Fleet. Some say one pirate is trying to rule all the others, whereas others say a foreign power has conspired against the Crosslands, using the ruse of piracy to bring it to its knees.
2. I'm very inexperienced. I've developed one one-shot campaign and Dm'd for a few friends a couple days ago. I'm just trying to play by any means I can find.
3. For years I've loved role-playing in any way possible. Though it's hard to find an outlet considering non of my friends like it.
4. This is my first time doing something like this.
5. I live in washington and my timezone is Pacific standard.
6. The recent invention of firearms has caused turmoil in certain regions of the 5 continents. There are people who believe that guns are the second coming, some people who have a reasonable/responsible view on guns, and then there are the people who despise even the thought of holding a firearm.
7. There is an ancient creature lying dormant deep under one of the 5 continents. If it awakes, the world would seek utter destruction unless a brave hero manages to defeat the monster.
1. Your preferred name and pronouns: Durthon, he/him.
2. Your experience as a dungeon master and/or worldbuilding: 3 years as a DM for 5e, mostly in person with a small group of friends running premade adventures.
3. Your experience roleplaying: started over 10 years ago (close to 20 if you count PC games), I've tried a few different systems (2e, 5e, Call of Cthulhu, Fading Suns)
3. Your experience with play by post, including frequency of posts: this is the only account that I have on this site, so a bit over 3 years. Can post daily most of the time, if things get too hectic I'll let the group know and reduce it to 3-4 times a week.
4. Your timezone: US Pacific (GMT-8 now)
5. Your one truth that you would like the world to contain: there are two moons in the sky. You can usually see them both at night and sometimes see one or the other during the day. On the rare day every few years when both are visible during the day, people without training can cast spell while trained wizards and mages fail to cast theirs.
6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain: there is an island past the eastern continent where people age backwards, getting a year younger for each fullmoon night they spend there.
2. I have been a dm for going on a year and have been worlbuilding since before high school. So awhile.
3. I have been playing dnd and role-playing for about 3-4 years.
3. I have been doing play by post for about 3-4 years ago and can typically post around 1-2 times per day.
4. MST
5. There is a blackmarket throughout the continents that deals in strange currencies; time from the end of your life, a firstborn child, a beloved memory. They sell anything and everything if you're willing to pay. The market is run by a mysterious masked figure known only as the Broker.
6. There are whispers that the giants of Noregard are building and army to take the other continents for themselves.
1. Your preferred name and pronouns: DragonDenn He/him. 2. Your experience as a dungeon master and/or worldbuilding: I've been DMing on here for about 3 years now. 3. Your experience roleplaying: Been playing DND since 3.5. 3. Your experience with play by post, including frequency of posts: Been playing here on Beyond for about 3 years now. I normally post once or twice a day, with less posts on weekends. 4. Your timezone: CST 5. Your one truth that you would like the world to contain: The power structure of the world is held in a triangle of power. The Godly make up one side of that triangle, the Government of the lands the second, and the third is held by the powerful Mercinary guilds. Most countries are run by a triad that consists of the king or queen, the head priest of that land, and the Commander of the most powerful of the mercinary companies of the land. 6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain. The Godly have decided to remove both other non-divine powers from the triad of the Crosslands.
1. Your preferred name and pronouns: ixi (she/her)
2. Your experience as a dungeon master and/or worldbuilding: About 1 year DMing PBP
3. Your experience roleplaying: Just over 3 years of pbp on dndbeyond with D&D 5e. Dabbled in Cyberpunk and own Coyote and Crow.
3. Your experience with play by post, including frequency of posts: As mentioned above, just over 3 years of PBP. I post more frequently on dndbeyond as I have full access. Discord I’m a bit slower to respond and less familiar with the platform. Though, I am a loyal player (in games that have been running for approx 3 years) and place quality over quantity in regards to writing and RP. I considered not applying due to solely discord, but I’ve been hoping to find a place/campaign that fills a void in creativity, RP, PC bonding and development I’ve been missing, so I thought I’d throw my hat in the ring.
4. Your timezone: EST
5. Your one truth that you would like the world to contain - This can pertain to culture, populations, environments, realms, politics, trade, threats, etc. Get creative! If you have a backstory in mind, you can use this to build up your origins proper!: Healing magics are rare/only available to the few, thus making Medical practice and knowledge more specialized. Herbalism, potion making, and healing kit skills are more relied on. Perhaps limited to specific crafting guilds, clans, or governing bodies of education.
6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain: A purple haired woman rumoured to have tamed a unicorn and holds untold healing prowess.
2. DMing/Worldbuilding Experience: Have a bit of a limited experience DMing, having done a mini campaign and a few oneshots, but will soon be starting a long campaign with some friends. Have done bits of worldbuilding since a teen.
3. Roleplay Experience: In D&D only, I have about three and a half/four years experience. Overall, have nearly a decade of PBP/text rp experience. Got started rping through video games and rp forums. Have a bit of experience on D&D Beyond, and a bit on discord, though only have a little experience using Avare (though more than willing to learn more).
3. PBP Experience: My PBP experience is listed above. I try to post fairly often, at least twice a day, if more depending on the game's pace. Though will always give space for other players to do their thing, and take charge if they want to! Weekends might post a bit less in the evenings, due to work being early in the morning, but it's not a problem on weekdays.
4. Timezone: EST/EDT
5. Your one truth that you would like the world to contain: In the distant past, there was said to be a small society of magic users that wished to test the limits of the lands. Though they've long since fallen and faded to obscurity (the reason for their demise unknown), some of their experiments can still be seen or felt to this day. Some whisper of meeting talking animals or seeing the water of a pond float out on a clear night.
6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain: A small mining town on a western continent was recently destroyed, with only a crater left where it once stood. Some say it was caused by whatever they were mining up.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The ever growing document of character concepts can never be too long, can it?
A couple things I want to address based on feedback and thoughts.
1. It seems that there is a lean towards playing in dndbeyond forums, and I am totally fine with this as opposed to using the discord bot Avrae. I will still be creating a discord then that will be used for discussion and notes.
2. I've decided that for convenience sake, we are going to go with a standard level 1 start. starting at 1/4 level was an effort to start as a commoner , but then I thought about tracking equipment and stats and it just sounds like a tedious endeavor to me. Once I've filled the roster, we will begin rolling stats.
I am still going through the applications and will reach out accordingly If I think you will be a good fit. I will announce when all spots have been filled and recruitment is over. Thanks to all those that have applied so far!
Play-by-post experience: A good bit (should be able to post at least once perday)
Timezone:Eastern
My one truth: Years ago most outsiders going to most countries had to tell a guard all of their personal information and check all items in any container
Rumor:It was rumored that long ago a great evil was banished by 5 Magic users that are said to still exist to this day, Blended amongst the ordinary.
2. I have never DMed a game before but play in a few PBP games where we aid in creating the world.
3. I have been playing PBP games for 2 years now and am a RPG player for a long time. I post everyday, several times a day when needed
3. As previously mentioned, I have been playing for 2 years now. I enjoy PBP. I like discord and avrae for ease of use on the phone vs DND Beyond. I play on DND Beyond as well so know how to roll etc. etc.
4. EST
5. Magic users were hunted on all the continents, except Noregard, for standing in the way of technological progress. Very few magic users are left on any of the continents and their magics are even less widely known/used
6. There's a secret sect of druids trying to find other magic users to protect them from genocide.
2. I have been DMing for 3 or 4 years, having created about 5 homebrew worlds.
3. My experience roleplaying is mostly from the DM-seat, but I've played a number of RP centric characters in the past.
3. I've played and DMed in a few games. I will typically make a post every one to two days.
4. MST (GMT-7)
5. Truth: On one continent there is a hate of spellcasters due to a historical event caused by magic. On this continent there is a sect of government dedicated to hunting mages (similar to the Salem Witch Trials). Unfortunately there is something on this continent that amplifies magic, which for some spellcasters is worth the risk. (If I am selected I’m more than happy to flesh out the details of such a government)
6. Rumor: The giants on Noregard protect a powerful relic, one that could further the combination of technology and magic rapidly.
If this is still accepting, I would like to join in.
1. Your preferred name and pronouns. Krayveneer (He/Him)
2. Your experience as a dungeon master and/or worldbuilding. I've DM'd for a family & friends game that fell rather short due to loss of interest in the game format as a whole on the players' part -- most probably caused by my lackluster storytelling, but I've had some experience in worldbuilding. Not as much as probably others, but some.
3. Your experience roleplaying. Rather new. Starting only in the last year or so.
3. Your experience with play by post, including frequency of posts. I've only joined one PbP game in D&D Beyond so far and so far it is my preferred platform as well as game format. I'm not as familiar with D&D on discord. I should be able to post daily once or twice, perhaps more, but usually at odd hours.
4. Your timezone. GMT+07, which is why I usually post at odd hours compared to EST/CST.
5. Your one truth that you would like the world to contain - This can pertain to culture, populations, environments, realms, politics, trade, threats, etc. Get creative! If you have a backstory in mind, you can use this to build up your origins proper! One continent is the center of Theocracy. They have an amicable albeit distant relationship with the Crosslands and other continents/governments, but rarely pursue the courtly intrigue played by the other leaders of the government. However, despite their appearance of the most holy light, the shadow remains the darkest under the light. Magic users who doesn't get their power from a divine source are persecuted in this continent, but not all citizens of the continent agree with the propaganda and a call to a regime change has been sounded.
6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain. It is rumoured that a gate to another realm, one that is filled with aberrations and monstrosities, is the reason so much progress in both magic and science are happening lately.
2. Your experience as a dungeon master and/or worldbuilding: I DM'd a few games in 4e, making my own campaigns. I've DM'd some one shots in 5e, and I've started to GM 'No Thank You Evil' for my daughter.
3. Your experience roleplaying: I've been playing D&D since 3.5e. I started in 2005-2006? My favorite part of role playing games is the RP, otherwise why wouldn't you play a video game?
3. Your experience with play by post, including frequency of posts: I've played in a few PBP games. I can post 1+ times a day, baring any unforeseen circumstances. I'm currently in one PBP game.
4. Your timezone: EST/EDT
5. Your one truth that you would like the world to contain: Esveraldale is the continent to the north east of Crosslands. This is a place of old magic. It is filled with lush forests to the south, swamps to the east, and several active volcanos to the north west (known as the coast of fire). There are several magical cities that defy description located around the continent, as well as dozens upon dozens of druid groves, loosely organized into conclaves by each geographical region. The continent is run by the Forum of Esveraldale, comprised of representatives from all the cities and druid conclaves. The Forum has decreed that technology and machinery are a mockery to both nature and the arcane, and would bring down the wrath of the gods upon them. Thus, most advance technology has been outlawed.
6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain: There is a rumor of a creature, a creature that haunts the woods on the edges of towns at dusk. It has many names, but most know it as Bampus. No one story agrees on what the Bampus looks like. However, what the stories do agree on is that this creature will snatch away children that wander to far into the woods at Dusk. The children are returned the next morning at dawn, wandering back out of the woods as if nothing has happened. But they are never quite the same. Some say that these 'children' that return are not really children, but the spawn of the Bampus, used to spread evil and chaos into the world. Others say that the children have seen unspeakable horrors. Most just say it's an old wives tale used to keep kids away from the woods at night. However, if you travel enough, you may eventually run into one of these 'children'.
I am closing the recruitment thread! Thank you all so much for taking an interest in the campaign. I have made my final selections and will be reach out to those I haven’t yet today. If you do not receive a PM from me by the end of the day, it means that I have decided to move on with others. For those of you that are not selected, a special thanks to you. All of your ideas are so creative and inspiring!
As a special announcement, I’ve decided to add an additional player to the total of the game, for a total of 7 PCs and 11 truths! Because, well, a lot of these are so good.. 11 doesn’t quite have to same ring as 10 truths but hey - it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to. People have done stranger things, right? (Bad pun, sorry sorry)
I will post here once more to let you all know when I have finished reaching out. Thanks so much to you all!

1. Adam He/Him
Sounds really fun.
1. Kris (he/him)
4. Your timezone: CST
6. A rumor your character has heard, the truth to which is uncertain: A purple haired woman rumoured to have tamed a unicorn and holds untold healing prowess.

just an unstable unicorn.
1. Name: Nahbois (she/they)
The ever growing document of character concepts can never be too long, can it?
Hey folks,
A couple things I want to address based on feedback and thoughts.
Name:Belpraxon Azul III (him/he)
DM/world builder experience:not much
Role-playing experience:A good bit

1. Tani (they/them)
This sounds like fun!
1. Your preferred name and pronouns: Joe (He/Him)
Alright folks,
I am closing the recruitment thread!
