This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Knowing he can't fight underwater in all his gear and being no battle against an actual aquatic creature and his minions Dex looks around quickly. Finding mid size object like a stone or rock he picks it up and throws it into the water, attempting to drop it in front of the Sahuagin. Just as he throws the rock he pinches a small piece of moss and yells "athril ogan tidol"
Cast light on the object and try to land it in front of the creature hoping the bright light will distract him long enough for the villagers to make land fall.
Probably need a roll so I attached a ranged attack roll.
Dex takes a couple steps into the water and stops short. He recalls his lessons and hears master Durjour's voice. "You can't help anyone when you be dead!"
Out of major spells and out of options Dex tries a second time to distract the sharks or creature. In a last ditch effort to save the swimmers he will send another light stone in the area of the sharks.
Looks like the villagers are SOL. Not a chance he is going to go toe to toe in the water. Once it becomes apparent this is a lost cause Dex will finish his checks and head to the boat to pull off the island before it disappears.
(You can fight underwater, but each attack will be at disadvantage. If your sure you want to leave then tell me and I will continue on with the villagers dead)
Dex stands motionless on the shore for a moment. Knowing he won't be any good to anyone dead, already seriously injured and out of spells he turns and heads back toward the ship.
He takes a quick job past the housing keeping to look for anyone else and heads to the ship. Once at the ship he looks up and shakes his head before walking to the gangplank and onto the ship.
Standing on the deck and watching the island sink Dex takes a short rest to pray and think about what could have went wrong in the battle and what he could do better next time
He looks for anyone who may still be in the water or anything of note.
If there is time for a short rest he will use a hit dice to recover some of the damage.
Flora Isle and the rest of Palma Flora grows ever smaller on the horizon as Wavechaser cuts through the choppy waters of the Lucidian Ocean. Several refugees from the village are huddled on the deck of the ship, while the crew tends to the vessel.
As you look around you see a burly, hairy man is playing a card game with some of the refugees. A half-orc gazes out at the waves, as she smiles at a dolphin leaping through the ship’s wake. A young male elf with pale-green skin and watery eyes is speaking to a female dwarf with a thick, knotted beard at the ship’s helm. A handsome, muscle-bound man is flirting with one of the refugees.
"We should rest. I am not sure this ship is truly protection against water creatures like we just saw. I wish we would have been able to save a few more."
After a few moments he will find a crewmember and inquire to a rest spot. Once that is set up he will settle down for a long rest.
Ridani solemnly nods "Well at least we were able to save some"she looks to the few villagers huddled together. You find a spot near the villages to rest and awaken to find its currently night time.
The crew are going about their business. The villagers look exhausted and some are crying fitfully.
Dex wakes and finds Ridani "what you say we go find out where this tub is going?"
Without waiting Dex gets up and wanders off to find someone in charge of the ship. Once he finds someone he will inquire to the destination and if there is anything needing done on the boat.
He nods his head to him and walks off to the captain's quarters. Remembering his time on the ships he draws back for the proper manners for a captain. He knocks on the door. "Dex'Tar Battlehammers, servant of Avandra. Permission to enter ma'am."
Assuming that is granted he will enter and introduce himself and ask about the plans from here.
"Hero may be a bit, well... exaggerated but yes we did what we could. Fortune favors the bold."
Looking at the map Dex takes an easy pose. "I don't speak for my new friend, Ridani but I am on a bit of a walkabout and have no place to be or to currently call home. I am at your service. I have heard of the sea denisons but what would cause the isle to sink like that? If I was back at the Pearl Shrine there would likely be some text that would have a clue but here I am at a loss."

Dex finds Ridani and introduces himself properly.
"We should rest. I am not sure this ship is truly protection against water creatures like we just saw. I wish we would have been able to save a few more."

This is what Ridani looks like
Dex wakes and finds Ridani "what you say we go find out where this tub is going?"
Without waiting Dex gets up and wanders off to find someone in charge of the ship. Once he finds someone he will inquire to the destination and if there is anything needing done on the boat.
The crew member says "You should see Captain Three Earings. She is in her cabin" He points to the location of the cabin at the back of the ship
