"Perhaps he's testing the limits of his potions' shrinking ability. That's Diminution or something, I think? We should get started though and do what we can, still might be gold in it for us though the danger just got a lot greater. Everyone on guard." Nemi draws her shortswords and starts into the garden.
Algernon is going to look for flowers that aphids like, since those seem like the smallest thing on the list.
”I don’t know about you, but I think we should look for aphids first, since those were the smallest thing on the list. Something like a mouse would be a bad idea to fight at our current level. Hopefully the gods don’t put one in our path before we’re ready.”
Horkur ponders for a moment before nodding in agreement with Algernon.
"Yes, I recall seeing those little critters around the farm as a little one. We would tend to see them under the leaves of the beets all the time - one year they got so bad it made the leaves turn yellow from all the damage."
He looks around for a moment, then realizes again that he is now considerably smaller than a few moments before.
You begin to search the flower garden. There is an ominous undertone felt as all is strangely quiet and the light filtering down through the petal canopy is dim and oddly multicolored, a constant reminder to you of your strange new circumstances. Even the smallest flowers tower above you now.
Before too long you spot some activity. An ant the size of a large dog is crawling over a rock. It goes over, out of sight on the far side, then crawls up on the rock, antennae waving, then crawls back to the far side. It seems like there may be something of interest on the far side of the rock, which is about 10 feet tall and twice as wide.
(At least, that’s how big you think of it in comparison to your proportions. In other words, it’s about twice as tall as you)
Horkur immediately freezes and observes the ant's behavior for a moment. After seeing it's obsession is currently on something beyond this large rock, he immediately tries to start sneaking from flower stem to flower stem in a 20' arc around the rock to observe further (if that is possible).
Nice sneaking! You advance unnoticed and can see that there’s something lying on the ground in the far side of the stone, with several more ants swarming around it. Your first impression is that the something on the ground is… a person? But it’s hard to tell from this distance, with the ants all over it, about 4 or 5 in total.
Elric tries to compose himself after the revelation of their unexpected over-shrinkage. Equipping his shield and mace, he creeps forward slightly to try to see what the ants are crawling over.
Horkur swallows hard, trying to avoid the loud gulping sound he is sure he made. "Well, it seems as though Rezlin has been far less than honest about his prior help as well..." He thinks to himself as we works to position.
Signaling to the group within sight of him that he is going to try to arc around for a view from the other side of the dwarf - he continues to sneak around the immediate vicinity to try to assess the threat and chances of additional "visitors".
Stealth Check:5 (I rolled twice due to forgetting disadvantage - please take the lower)
Horkur, the ants have detected you! First one, then the others start marching towards you, antennae trembling. Their carapaces are jet black but at this size you’re able to see many hairs covering their bodies. They have bulbous inhuman eyes that don’t give a natural impression of where they are looking. But their mandibles open and close and look quite dangerous.
Horkur trips over his long chainmail hauberk while moving from flower to flower falling flat on his face. He gets up and sees the ants starting to march directly toward him.
"Ahhh" He screams, startled at the sight. "Um, nice ants.. Good ants.. We can talk through this, right..?"
Rolls in game log:
Animal Handling: 8 (I severally doubt this does anything)
There are 4 ants, I should have mentioned. Their alien stares are unnerving, it’s difficult to tell what their intentions are but probably not good… best roll for initiative, just in case!
On his turn, Algernon walks forward, taking point in their formation, tilting his head slightly to the side, lowering his staff to his side, holding it perpendicular to himself. The claws at the end of it begin to twitch and flex as he speaks.
"Before you fight us, know this. No matter the outcome, no matter what happens, you will die here, and we will not. You might be able to survive this battle and kill everyone involved, but we will live on long after this world dies, where as you will not."
He then uses Primal Savagery on the nearest ant, moving towards it if need be, swiping at it with his staff as the claws begin to glow a bright acidic green.
Initiative: 8 Intimidation against the ants: 8 Primal Savagery Attack: 18 PS Damage: 4 acid damage
Horkur and possibly Elric get to act first. The ants seem uninterested in Horkur’s pleas or attempt to interact. They are approx 30-50 feet away and closing.
The axe bounces harmlessly off the ant’s carapace and clatters to the ground! Now the ant is upon you! It tears up, mandibles gnashing, trying to bite!
17 to hit, 6 damage!
The other ants are closing in, not quite reaching you, still 10-15 feet away.
16 Horkur - threw an axe
14 ant - bit Horkur!
14 ant - moved closer
14 ant - moved closer

11 Nemi -
8 Algeron -

(by the way, I’m open rolling in the game log, though that doesn’t show the modifiers)

"I just hope he isn't also testing the limits on it's duration too!"

The halfling cleric stands frozen, late to react to the danger.
Horkur holds his attack until the leading ant is within 20 feet and throws one hand-axe.
Attack: 6 (pretty sure that missed but rolled 7 damage if wrong).
As a bonus action he pulls a shortsword from its sheath to replace the thrown weapon..
