Your group of companions stared along a long winding frozen road of the north, with no end in sight. The winter storm that currently rages all around seems to have a life of its own, constantly changing direction and finding the exposed part of flesh for it to steal away what little warmth you have.Your companions decided to travel this far north during the winter months due to a rumor of riches buried in the northern mountains. During your trek back to civilization it wasn't well for your party, several people falling ill from the mountain chills as well as injuries sustained on the road. With the state of the party and the distance needed to head back to your starting town would be a suicide trip. A rest was needed in a warm dry place. The forest and plains were not a great place to sleep at and any cave you find might contain a hibernating bear or other worse denizens that dwell in the dark recesses of the world. With that in mind a detour was made to a small town called Steamside, so small it wasn't even on the local maps.
While Steamside contained only seven buildings, no inns and no buildings which sold adventuring supplies you were surprised to be met with hospitality and welcoming smiles. There you met a Blacksmith named Giliam Aldus, who decided to bring everyone into his home until you all felt well enough to travel. While he was curious about a group of adventurers being out in the winter months with no cover, clothing or even enough supplies to survive a next couple of days he never seemed look down on you. In the short time you had been with Mr. Aldus you got to know the human well as he was a simple man. You realized he seemed to be happy just to have conversation and by the end of your time with him he seemed to know everyone by a first name basis. Your stay wasn't just recovery though, those that were able to helped him move the ore shipments to his forge, stoke the forge, or to prepare meals, those that were bedridden were only put to work once they were feeling better, though less labor intensive tasks, such as cleaning rust from tools or bringing completed horseshoes, and farming tools to folk of Steamside.
A couple weeks of resting, getting good food and waiting out a winter storm and off you all go back home. When you entered Gallo you had found that a lot of your jobs had either been filled with new individuals or the pay had gone down or prices for the inn had gone up. While it was quite upsetting to be in a spot with little to no money and all of your hard earned savings spent on the gear and supplies you currently have times can be tough but manageable, so long as money doesn't become even harder to come by. A couple months past and the gold you have earned in the past month is slowly going down. It costs more money to live then you make and many people are leaving Gallo. It was another night at the inn drinking some cheap swill and some overcooked potatoes, cheese and stale bread when a trader comes in and calls out the name or yourself and your friends. In his hand is a letter and he promptly hands it to you and lets you know that it was a note from some blacksmith in steamside.
Backstory: I am Jonjavar Droafin, a magnificent Triton Paladin in service to the Goddess Melora. I am the first son of a noble family, who sent me to Melora's temple to train at a young age. My child hood and even teenage years were spend in service to the temple, during my time there I met Kleifam and we struck up a casual friendship. Once my training was completed I set out in service of Melora, and take up my people ancient charge. In reacent months I found my thoughts being directed towards Kleifam, I took it as a sign from Melora that I need assist him. I have been travelling with Kleifam since.
Sitting easy at our table in the inn I take the letter as if it was meant for me and read it over, frowning as I finish.
The people of Steamside need help, I say we go. I place the letter on the table where the others can reach, and wait for their reply.
(OOC:How far is it to Steamside? Do we have enough to provision properly for the trip?)
Backstory: Chikao was born to a poor farming family a couple of miles out from a border town. He wasn't 8 years old when the leader of the a bandit group that had been harrassing surrounding areas showed up at his door. The bandit leader demanded that Chikao's human father pay his tithe. Since he was unable to, both Chikao's mother and father were taken away to be 'made an example of.' Chikao hid under the bed.
Several days later, Chikao was found alone by a neighbor who noticed the run-down farmland, and sent to live at the orphanage in town. The orphanage was far from able to take care of Chikao and his fellow orphans, so he took to stealing food on the streets, helping himself and the younger kids. Nowadays, Chikao lives a relatively modest life, stealing what he only needs to survive, save for whenever someone worse off than him needs something, or if he gets the rare chance to put an egotistical leader in their place.
Recently, several of the downtrodden people in my town were worried about the acolytes of Melora that were passing through, pleading me to help escort them, and bring them a safe journey, wherein we found ourselves in Steamside originally. (End backstory)
Chatting up one of the barmaids, my eyes shift over to the letter as soon as I overhear the words 'Giliam Aldus.' I excuse myself and promptly read the letter over Jonjavar's shoulder.
Already having made up my mind before finishing the letter, Jonjavar breaks the silence. I agree, it's the least we can do for them, looking around to see what the others think.
Backstory:Growing up in the Feywilds I enjoyed listening to the various Fey creatures stories. I would spend all day training with my longbow, and at night heeding the many creatures anecdotes. Once I was 25 I sought out more knowledge. So I went deeper into the wild, there I came upon a dark and desolate place. Shrouded in mist and foul smelling sewage I knew I shouldn't be here. I started to turn around but was grabbed by the throat with an iron grip. "Boy, you have come into the wrong place." A female cackling came from behind me. Choking I stood still. "Wh-a-what do you want from me?" I croaked out. Laughing she stated; "Mmmm you have something I want." Thinking about the situation and my knowledge of the Fey I knew this could only be a Hag. And the atmosphere of the place it could only be a Night Hag. A Night Hag back in the Feywilds must be an extremely powerful Hag. Even though I knew it was wrong and evil, I desperately wanted to know more. Hoping to strike a deal I stammered; "Well, why don't we do a trade?" "Hahahaha" she cackled; "What do you have in mind?" "I seek knowledge." "You want much young one." She stated; "What I want can't be obtained, yet, I will give you what you wish and collect on my accounts later." "Alright then." I shakily confirmed. Blinding light and pain coursed through my body. Images flashed through my thoughts, all sorts of magical practice and alien feelings pummeling my consciousness. I woke up on the ground. I had a maddening headache. I went back the way I came, stumbling and groaning the whole way. When I got back to my abode I meditated on the thoughts that where not mine. I could barely understand the basic meaning of a lot of the spells the old hag had shown me. I went off a ways to attempt to cast a spell. I thought I wasn't followed. I cast my first spell, it felt so wrong, but so right in an odd way. I heard distant cackling to which I remembered to be the Old Hags. "Hey you!" a familiar voice shouted behind me. "Galin?!" My mother was behind a tree a few meters away. Angrily she shouted, "What have you done! Why can you cast such evil spells!?" "I...I...I..." I stammered; "I made a deal for power and knowledge." "You should know better than to go making deals with a Fey!" She yelled to me. "I wanted to become something more than just a simple elf mother. To become something great!" "There are other ways than to make deals with the devil." She replied. "I'm sorry mother" I said ashamed. "Do not come home, you are no longer one of us." She cried as she ran off. Saddened that I broke my mothers heart I wandered. I was happened upon by Kleifam, he told me of a horrible evil and requested my assistance. Thinking I could help out I went with him, hoping to regain the love and acceptance of my family.
I glance up from my food. I read the letter and reply, Of course we should go, he needs our help.
The town of Steamside is only a 3 day trip away though a mostly small dirt path that only smaller carts can fit through. No stops of the way there of note but the woods around the area are filled with small game, edible mushrooms and other foraging options. Streams and creeks can be shown on local maps and at Gallo there is a local Cartographer with several maps of the local area raging from simple roads and creeks of the surrounding areas; to maps of abandoned dwarven mines and natural resources. Gallo is a town with a Blacksmith and Armory, General Store, Leatherworker, Tailor and Textiles, Inn and Tavern, and Woodworker and Bowyer.
Backstory: I am Kleifam a humble Firbolg priest devoted to the Goddess Melora. I have put upon myself a quest of enlightenment through seclusion in the woods of my birth. Before this i always stayed close to the woodlands but away from my kin allowing me to enjoy some of the creature comforts of civilization. However i felt my isolation back into the woods necessary in order for me to become closer to Melora. However as all places in this world you cannot truly be alone i had acquired two good friends during this time in my life. I have gained an eladrin friend from deep in the fae woods who i would trade with both food and conversation. Additionally i had befriended a unique friend by name of Jonjavar he is a prideful Triton through action and word. He is one of the aqueous folk who had come up to the surface to exterminate the evils of our lands and a paladin of Melora. All in all dependable friends, however now i wished for them to be my travel companions as well and i hope they will accept my request as I want to explore out from the woodlands of my birth and go out into the world. I am excited and hopeful for these travels and hope to aid the good folk that i encounter by spreading and protecting the kindness and grace that Melora nurtures in all living things.
Melora will provide us the provisions we require. Their request was urgent we should gather our travel gear and set out at once! Kleifam stands up and beings to gather his satchel, thankfully he had been staying at the inn this night and all his things were close at hand instead of his hovel out in the woods. We can't allow our friends to be exploited by bandits.
My friends, we should wait till morning and gather provisions for the journey. I don't want a repeat of the last time we ventured out that way. Come morning I will purchase us a map.
I signal the serving wench for another mug of ale, and order what ever gruel they serve here.
It'll be nice to hunt our own food, perhaps it will be less nausiating.
What provisions could do we need? I have all my travel supplies just in the room. The bandits may have caused more trouble since aswell. Since sometime would have passed since they wrote the letter
The price for the cheapest map is 5 GP and the most expensive one is 50 GP. Each of these maps lay out the surrounding area for about a ten days travel on foot.
As one of the serving wenches makes their way over to your table and starts taking away any empty dishes and discarded bones and other inedibles often found it hastily cooked and prepared meals she then looked at everyone a smile in her face as she says a well rehearsed sentance.
"Still hungry, well do you want some more Humble pie or would you like to try the Grilled snake and Macadamia, and as for drinks would you want water, ale or try some stronger stuff. We have a little left of our house specialty Kinderry which is a hard cider"
Regardless of our supplies, we should still wait for morning unless everyone else is okay with traveling at night. I feel a map of the area is necessary, especially if we have to hunt down these bandits.
I order the kinderry, and more pie. Come morning I'll use my last 5 gp to buy us a map.
"I agree with Jonjavar. We should wait till morning. Get a good nights rest and we should depart on the morrow. I will take some Kinderry if you will."
Kleifam stares at his companions while standing above his chair, coat already in hands and exclaims If you all are so insistent, its not like i would fare well to travel so far on my own. He places his coat back onto the back of the chair and with disgruntled features drains the rest of the ale from his tankard while sitting back down into his chair. I'll just have another of the ale's then if i'm to sit idle with our neighbors in peril, no point in sleeping in my nerves. I pray Melora watches them for now.
The barmaid comes back with your drinks and food. Dropping the cider in front ofjonjavar and his friend and giving a full mug of ale to kleifman. Whipping her auburn hair back and saying "The ale will be 3 copper, the kinderry is 2 silver and the pie will be 3 copper as well. Ill bring it back when its hot and cooked."
the inn was quiet with no wandering bard there to lift up peoples spirits with a enlighting song of heroes or love. Idle chatteringand the clanking of mugs laughs and curses from fellow patrons as well as the chefs in the back. A quiet night indeed. Your group had already paid for your rooms and no plans in the forseabke future.

Seeing Kliefam's distress I'll try and put him at ease.
Friend, we will do little good for the village if we arrive exhausted from out travel, and image if we should run into trouble on the way. If we rush to assist we could cause more harm then good.
I pay for the drink and food. I'd also like to see if i've heard of the Bronze bandits or Norlin. If I havent heard of them I'll ask around the tavern.
History-8
Investigation-9
(OOC) shippy for the love of god pick a different speech color, my eyes can barley see that shit.
Jonjavar and Kleifman thing hard about these bronze bandits and nothing really comes to mind except that jonjavar reconizes Norlin being more a dwarven name then a common one. The talking around the tavern mostly lead to people telling you to sod off with many fish related insults.
Kliefam glances curiously at the large Goliath seemingly staring at them from the serving counter, then turns back to Jonjavar and says: I understand your words, however for me the risk is well worth it, and there are plenty enough of us to deter bandits at the road, however if you believe it wiser to wait till morn i will have faith.
I agree, morning sounds fine; we should all get some rest soon, I say we leave as early as possible. Chikao says, turning away to take his leave for the night.

I pay for the drink and food. I'd also like to see if i've heard of the Bronze bandits or Norlin. If I havent heard of them I'll ask around the tavern.

(OOC) shippy for the love of god pick a different speech color, my eyes can barley see that shit.
Jonjavar Droafin, ITSP
Jonjavar and Kleifman thing hard about these bronze bandits and nothing really comes to mind except that jonjavar reconizes Norlin being more a dwarven name then a common one. The talking around the tavern mostly lead to people telling you to sod off with many fish related insults.
I need a good signature :s
Kliefam glances curiously at the large Goliath seemingly staring at them from the serving counter, then turns back to Jonjavar and says: I understand your words, however for me the risk is well worth it, and there are plenty enough of us to deter bandits at the road, however if you believe it wiser to wait till morn i will have faith.
Kleifam - Priest of Melora
I agree, morning sounds fine; we should all get some rest soon, I say we leave as early as possible. Chikao says, turning away to take his leave for the night.
