Thatch retrieves his arrow from the bear’s hide and slides it back in his quiver, hurrying to catch up to Mother Clay, supporting her as she moves toward the prisoner. As he hears the man’s story, and it becomes clear that Mother Clay knows the man, Thatch slips a small, thin strip of medal from his sleeve and steps forward. With a look toward Sir Valor, he begins working the lock on the stocks, attempting to free the man. “Where is Le Cloche now? Where are Sir Olvar and all of the other villagers?”
Thieves tools to free the man: 20.
.
Solly looked like he was about to resist being freed, " I don't know young fella, If I escapes from the stocks I will be deemed a homeless outlaw, leaving me family at the mercy of Le Cloche. Though...with young Master here I can say he took me into custody....and if you lot put paid to Le Cloche I've no worries. Alright, unlock me. But if you don't return I'll pop meself back in the stocks quick as you like."
" Le Cloches likely in manor still. "
“If Olvar has a weakness, it is to think the best of people (particularly Le Cloche). He didn’t even have a militia or any guards in the village. Sir Olvar left the town two days ago on horseback to confront the White Queen and save his newborn child.”
Villagers are likely staying at home, Le Cloches men looked plenty rough."
Oh no Lady Angela and a newborn child homeless. Morseth ask Solly "Do you know where Lady Angela and her child may have went after being ousted from her home? Perhaps a friend nearby or a shrine"
" I daresay one of the other staff has offered her shelter, she's quite popular."
"How peculiar." Tana glances up at the squirrel, smiling slightly at the mischievous creature.
'Hello there little one.' She projects her voice into the squirrel's mind, making sure to use a softer tone so as to not disturb the creature too much. 'You seem to be having fun and I'd hate to ruin it, but this man here is quite injured already. Could you perhaps not throw your acorns at him?'
(This is using Mind Link, the creature can respond.)
This is not the first time Tana has communicated with squirrels....but this does not go the usual way....the tiny creature immediately scampers up into the boughs and vanishes from sight.
" Get the blazes out of me 'ed. Yer not welcome here, little witch."
" Best hurry home before the White Lady takes you."
Tana frowns as the squirrel scampers off. She turns back to the group after casting another worried look around the trees.
"I believe we may be in the territory of some otherworldly force." She murmurs to the party, watching as they attempt to free Solly. "Has anyone heard of the name 'White Lady' before by any chance?" Tana inquires, also trying to remember if any other creatures had ever mentioned this name before.
(History Check: 5 or if applicable Religion Check: 18)
Solly pipes up, " “No one alive has seen her, but her white house has appeared in the eastern hills overlooking the town on several occasions over the years, only when the moon is nearly full and a child is due to be born. Whenever it appears, there’s a terrible storm (much like the one that is raging now). At daybreak of the third day after its birth, the poor little mite falls sick and passes away. They say the white Lady spirits their little souls away, but no one knows why.”
" Queen Fhionn, The White Lady, The White Queen...all names she's known by."
Valor considers, "Help the man free. Tana, Morseth, see what you can do to ease his aches. Give him some water and food. Argyle, Hotspur, Yessa, I would confer with you."
He pulls the three aside a little and says, "Thoughts? We need to scout this situation more, and find my cousin and the child if we can. But, we also need to protect Mother Clay, and this 'Solly,' if he is truly innocent as well. My father should also know of Le Cloche's actions as soon as possible. Yessa, you're knowledgeable about these otherworldly things any knowledge here?"
Morseth pulls out the Thullish Mead "I am sorry this will sting quite a bit. Brace yourself" He pours a bit onto a clean cloth and starts dabbing the wounds, slowly cleaning them. He then does his best to make Solly comfortable "I am going to need to find some clean bandages. Perhaps we will find some in town"
Hotspur ponders the deluge of information Solly has suddenly produced. As Valor draws his small council aside, the bard summarizes, "It seems we have two situations that may be connected. A witch or a supernatural being of some sort that curses newborns, only around the time of the full moon. When her house appeared, Sir Olvar left his manor to bargain with her, and is missing. In his absence, Lady Angela and her newborn are cast out of the manor and this churlish knave Le Cloche has claimed it for himself. My opinion would be to cast the interloper out of the manor, restore your cousin and her newborn to their rightful home, and then proceed to the White House to look for Olvar."

"Perhaps it could be good to gather some herbs here? There might be some with anti-toxin abilities in the woods." Tana nods at Morseth, glancing back and forth between him and Solly with a furrowed brow.
She raises her voice to the others, "I'm going to see if I can find any herbs of use. It's best if we do not linger. I feel that staying here may provoke some other creatures."
"I'm going to see if I can find any herbs of use. It's best if we do not linger. I feel that staying here may provoke some other creatures."
It was then that Argyle felt it best to report the bear tracks he'd found; how the animal had likely suffered its wounds days, even weeks ago. Whatever fight it had gone through had not been recent.
"If we DO run across other injured creatures," he continued, "I'm not entirely sure what that will mean, but we'll likely be able to tie it into all of this once we get more info."
He looked around him, and wiped the rain from his forehead. "It's getting dark. We should probably get inside anyway, yes? Maybe whichever house offers us their hospitality we can count as an ally."

Tana finds a stand of elder trees with many berries present and also locates large clumps of nettles nearby....there is little else about save some slimy looking yellow toadstools that she's fairly sure are a little too toxic to be of use.

Thatch tries to put the old man at ease as he worries about being slapped back in the stocks “Don’t worry, you are with Sir Valor now. We will take care of you.” As they ask about finding shelter for the night, Thatch turns back to Solly “What about you? Do you have a place to stay tonight? Would they accept us and Mother Clay as visitors?” He turns to Sir Valor “Mother Clay should stay with a villager, but we may put them at risk by asking them to shelter us.”
Hotspur remarks, "We might gain an advantage if we attack the manor tonight, when Le Cloche and some of his men might be sleeping. By tomorrow morn, they may have learned of our presence."

Solly stretched painfully after his medical ministrations and turned towards Thatch, " Well, young fella. I had planned on spending the night here, but thats changed now. Tana collects what she can, carefully tucking things into her side pouch before returning back to the group.
"Have we made any plans? It seems like night may fall soon. It's best we aren't in these woods when it gets dark."
As the group talked they looked north down the hill and through the village gate, though it was hard to make out details in the burgeoning gloom and driving rain.
The gate stands open and the gatehouse is deserted.
The street is empty and the cottages have shuttered windows, with no light visible within. Every door appears to be firmly closed.
You can see the central cobbled square, with the manor house standing proudly on its north side. Opposite the manor is a small inn. There is a faint light from within.
The road continues north-east, sloping down to a bridge over a stream. There it passes through a gate before turning east towards the black edges of the forest
"Lets head to the small inn. It'll offer some shelter and maybe more information" says Morseth. Once everyone is ready he begins heading in that direction escorting Solly.
Hotspur remarks, "We might gain an advantage if we attack the manor tonight, when Le Cloche and some of his men might be sleeping. By tomorrow morn, they may have learned of our presence."
"That may not be a bad idea. But it's a gamble. I'd prefer to know more about the disposition of Le Cloche's soldiers and be sure we weren't putting the populace at further risk." Valor thinks outloud. "Solly do you know if the soldiers frequent the inn? If not, let's head there to gather some more information before we make any further actions. Hotspur, why don't you go on a little ways ahead and get the lay of the land. Take Mizzen, Tana, and Teryl with you. You can easily pose as a traveling bard with some companions. The rest of us will come along and wait out of sight. Besides, neither Mother Clay nor Solly is going to travel very quickly. See what you can find out before we get there."
The bard bows deeply. "As you wish. Perhaps I ought to taste the wine, too, just to make sure it's not poisoned or anything." He looks around for the other three. "Ready?"
When they have gathered, the four of them will head down the hill, through the gate and into the inn.
Argyle nodded as Valor gave the commands. He again moved close to Mother Clay, determined to keep her safe, as he prepared to follow their leader into town.

Argyle nodded as Valor gave the commands. He again moved close to Mother Clay, determined to keep her safe, as he prepared to follow their leader into town.
Mizzen, Tana, Teryl and Hotspur made their way down into the village through the unmanned gate.
Keeping to the shadows as best they could in the heavy rain, the single street is empty and the cottages have shuttered windows, though Teryls keen ears pick up muttered conversations within a few of them.
Many are decorated with charms to ward off evil spirits: sprigs of heather, dried frogs and rabbits’ feet.
You reach the central cobbled square, with the manor house standing proudly on its north side. Opposite the manor is the small inn. There is a faint light from within.
A bearded face peers out at you from the door of the inn, then ducks inside. However, the door remains ajar.
Across the square the manor house casts a moon-shadow across it, black and foreboding. A figure appears at an upper window, silhouetted in firelight for a moment, watching you. But when you look up, it retreats from view and seconds later shutters are closed across the window from the inside. You can hear many rough voices singing in the hall, the rhythmic banging of metal on tables, and breaking crockery.
Hotspur rubs his hands together in anticipation as he prepares to enter his 'favored terrain': the common room of a tavern. He adjusts his cap, checks his breath, and saunters inside, fully prepared for all eyes to be on him.
He marches to the bar, smiling, and signals the barkeep. "Good man, my friends and I have just arrived from the eastern provinces, and have been journeying all day. We are thirsty and weary and looking for a place that can meet both our needs for the night. Tell me, sir, is there any room at the inn?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tana enters closely behind Hotspur, quickly glancing about once inside the inn. She nods in Hotspur's direction as he walks up the bar, trusting that he will handle any means of conversation. She then ducks into the crowds, searching for either the face of the bearded man from earlier or see if she can spot anything interesting about the manor from an inn window.
