Shavaris looks up to Dageron, tears streaming down her face. In a weak sort of tantrum, she smacks her offhand rapier towards Dageron's feet, it spinning and clattering about halfway to him.
"Back to work?!" She slowly gets up and glares at Dageron. She sweeps her hand over the mural and looks towards it, averting her eyes from the one that shows Kerwyn, she can't face it again. "It's over! My mission, our mission... it is all for naught!" her voice is getting louder as she continues, a bit with hysterics starting as she responds to Dageron..."The unicorn is dead. DEAD!! The world is now in darkness, we'll never know sunlight again, what is the f*cking point??!! And not only have we all failed," she looks back to the last picture of the mural, "It was US that did it!! At least those of the AURYN. Do you not see?? There is Johnathan, Ward, and others that I recognize from the Hall of Celestia, I just don't know their names..." she breathes hard, trying to contain her anger and desperation as the news is all sinking in.
She looks to the rest of the group, her eyes landing on Stasolya. "What do we do now?"
Dageron lets the tantrum play its course before responding. "And where would you rather be if this truly is the end of this world? Crying on the floor like a child, or stalking our quarry so that we may fight on, if even just one last time. Even if it is futile for our salvation. Who would you rather die as, Shavaris the Broken, or Shavaris the Avenger? Besides, even if you are correct, the Conjunction has occured before. The world has ended before. If we cannot save this one, we can damned sure try to save the next one. Either way, our battle is not over." He reaches down a hand to the young woman. "Let's go recruit an Apex Predator to our side, so that it can **** up our enemies best laid plans."
Shavaris looks to the drow, "No sunlight? All plants will die. No plants? No food... "she trails off figuring she doesn't need to continue explaining. She then points to the part of the mural where the figure that depicts Ward is pointing the skeleton army as they are killing the woman with the star shaped birthmark on her forehead. "Because of Schmendrick, this woman is the mare we were searching for."
Shavaris stares at Dageron as he talks. A course of anger surges through her, but she welcomes it. She firmly grasps the man's hand and with that, strengthens her resolve. "I am not broken. I don't have many that I would consider close, and I keep losing them." She briefly looks at the part of the mural that contains Vader and quickly looks away before the tears come again. Her face hardens as she looks back at Dageron and nods, "Let's find it. This is a dead end," she glances one last time at the mural, "in more ways than one."
Kit-Tik didn't expect Shavaris to scream, so when she did he reeled back a bit. The thri-kreen listened silently as Dageron spoke to Shavaris, seemingly revitalizing her spirit. That was good, Kit-Tik was never one good at appealing to the emotions.
Seeing Shavaris react so drastically from the mural, Kit-Tik couldn't help but to take a look at the artwork himself.
The mural shows a few things that are concerning. The first is the Lord of Darkness, the great horned fiend, wielding a greatsword that was a big, or bigger, than any of those gathered before the painting. A sweeping arc of the sword has rendered a painting of Greko into two halves, just as it was reported he fell at the Temple of Time.
Next to that is a battle in a darkened place, perhaps a cave. Lord Vader's lightsaber sticks through Prince Adam's chest and out his back while Greko, now adorned in white robes, and Lelith, try to save him. In Vader's hand is the Shard of Division.
The next painting shows a village, no doubt Hagsgate, in flames and ruins. Bodies litter the streets as the combined might of the AURYN teams fails to bring the monster to heel. An army of skeletons marches beyond that...
And beyond that the last painting, the one with the unicorn. A beautiful woman with a star on her forehead, an alicorn protruding from the star, as she is cut down by skeletons. Lady Kaede, Amitola, Johnathan, Ereni, and Nodjeim watch as Ward points toward her, seeming to set the skeletons upon her...
Stasolya, startled by Shavaris' sudden scream, trots forward to look at the mural that caused her such distress. She sees terrible, distressing events being played out--some of them events that she has certainly heard have happened, such as the slaying of Greko. She has never heard of murals like these. She muses, "Do these murals predict the future, or do they show events that have already happened... or are happening now? Or are they nothing but a deceptive mix of truth and lies to drive us to despair? The Gmork's influence may still be at work here."
She turns to face the party, her own fear and sorrow visible only in her dilated eyes and the stiff stance of her feet. "If the unicorn is dead, and the world has gone dark, we would not know it, down here. Atreyu said that Gandalf furnished you with mirrors to act as portals here. If we could contact him, we could perhaps ascertain if some of these terrible events have actually happened. If nothing else, from where he is, he will know if it's gone dark outside."
Kit-Tik nods approvingly to Stasolya suggestion, "This one agrees with the centaur."
Kit-Tik makes several clicking noises with his mouth to direct Rhino and Silk to keep an eye out for danger as he digs through his bag of holding for the handheld mirror Gandalf had given him.
(Kit-Tik can only communicate to non Thri-Kreens via telepathy. His telepathy has a range of 120. Assuming that his telepathy works through the mirror, Kit-Tik calls for Gandalf and shows him the mural. If not, Kit-Tik will hand the mirror off to someone else to do the talking.)
Still rigid, trying to get a handle on her emotions, Shavaris stares at Stasolya. Trying to comprehend what the centaur is saying, a glimmer of hope begins to blossom. "So you're saying that even though we know this first panel to be true... that doesn't necessarily mean the rest have happened?"
That's when it hits her. The feeling of pain, sadness, horror, loss... she about doubles over from it. When she stands back up, her eyes are wide with fear. "Please, can someone contact Gandolf? What... what was that?"
Oten walks up to the mural, holding a glowing orb in his hand to illuminate the images. "Whether it depicts the past or the future depends on when you are looking at it. Consider when this must have been painted. I don't imagine the undead here crafted these images, so at the time of its creating, I imagine Greko's fall was indeed a future matter. Now it is past."He turns around to face Shavaris, his eyes just two glowing pinpricks at the moment.
"So before you lose heart, know that I think it likely that there are events here that have not yet come to pass, and with the current state of the world, I consider there to be no better time to subvert prophecy a chart a new fate."
He glances at Tuto. "There is also perhaps... some good news here as well. I see two of my former companions, one thought dead, and the other thought traitor, fighting together for the cause of light."
Then he sees Shavaris' fear. "What is it? What is wrong?!"
While waiting on Gandalf's response, Kit-Tik responds to Shavaris, "This one never thought his travels beyond the Stygian Waste's would have him join this band of... heroes? Nonetheless, there are still many variables to consider in this prophetic mural. For example, this one does not see himself in the mural. Perhaps something as small as involving this one's self into the event will have a change on the outcome. And should these prophecies come to pass, the mural shows nothing as to things staying that way. So long as we persist in our cause, so too does a future for the realm."
"Ah also, I recall that the bands had a medallion to communicate to each other in real time across the realm. Perhaps we share our findings to the others as well?"
Dageron feels the shift as the others do... the un-rightness of the world. He puts his hands on his armor, the white painted marks across it, and prays in his native tongue. In his heart, as he does, he says 'How many priests of war are there, really? How many like me? How many who have come to this moment, at the end of all things, to fight to preserve all of the Gods of War. For what? Where are any of you when the battle turns? Where have you been all this time? HEAR ME NOW! If you see what I see, know what I know, then you are cowards if you do not intercede. I am here! Use me damn you, or to hell with you all!' After a brief moment, he steps away from the others a few feet, turning to confront them. His voice (exactly like Josh Brolin's) a growling deep rumble loud enough for all to hear. His tone is not unkind, but urgent, like a General preparing his troops for battle - for their last battle.
"Death is not defeat! HEAR ME NOW! Every living thing can die and we can still WIN. The Conjunctions are a rebirth of all things. Our ONLY GOAL now must be to stop our adversaries from controlling the conjunction before the reset fully occurs. If we do that, all of the death that follows will have been part of the Grand Design, and all of those lives will have had meaning. PURPOSE. Our victory will be in having prevented theirs. Our monument will be the countless lives to be born over the many eons to come in a new world, and of the SOULS that we will have saved from eternal OBLIVION who lived once in this world. Such goals ARE WORTHY! Now, do not seek comfort from Mithrandir, or to feed your worries about our fellows undertaking other missions. THIS IS OUR MISSION. We dawdle too long and risk TOO MUCH. Come. Let us find this beast and set it loose upon the world once more. We are no longer mere Auryn bearers. WE BEAR ETERNITY ITSELF AND OUR BATTLE IS NOT YET WON!"
As if expecting his words to resonate, he looks to Shavaris and Shirin, a fire in his eyes. "I need you both on point and we have to move faster. We've encountered no traps save the undead, and that was the Gmork's doing. Be cautious... but not too cautious. Throw rocks ahead of you if you must. You two in lead, two center - including me, and two in rear. No more than 10' spacing. Get moving." He doesn't wait for their responses, but instead turns to Otem and Stasolya. "We're moving quickly now, Stasolya will continue to try to reach Mithrandir but do so with care not to trip and shatter the mirror. Get us an update on the Triforce - nothing else matters - then report in to me. Oten, you are to be her eyes and protector while she is distracted - nothing gets that mirror. Die for it if you must. You're taking up the rear." He then turns to Kit-Tik, "I need you to keep pace with me for a short time, I have need of your unique talents as we walk, we take center." He motions for Kit-Tik - and everyone else - to move and starts down the direction Shavaris had been going originally.
Gandalf's voice can be heard as he responds through the mirror shortly after being shown the mural.
"All of these events are both true and false. Greko is true. Prince Adam's death is false; he has been saved by the forces of destiny, though it almost came to pass. The fate of the Shard of Division is unknown, because there has been a fight with Lord Vader beneath Aughra's Observatory. Vader has been killed...but the fate of the Shard is beyond us now. As for the unicorn...she is gone...and the suns have set..."
Shavaris looks to Oten and Kit-Tik as they try and make sense of the mural before them. She hadn't dared look at the one showing Kerwyn's death any longer than the briefest of glances as it had hurt too much. But she looks now and seeing Lelith there gave her a mixture of feelings. Did this show the future? Is she fighting for us now? Is Kit-Tik right, that there are now new members to help in this mission that things might start swinging their way? She remembers the speech Atreyu and Gandolf gave when they first arrived to Skyloft and how abysmal it all seemed.
Not being an AURYN barer herself, she ignores that question as Kit-Tik raises it, letting Stasolya decide for herself.
Dageron soon brings her out of her thoughts as he apparently shouts to his God. "I thought you just berated me for breaking our stealth.." she murmurs under her breath as she watches him. Wondering what his chants are meant to do.
As he turns to face them, Shavaris stands still listening to his words, the sheer volume and how he talks just about stuns her. She almost starts to contradict him, how can everything die and we still win? But decides against it as clearly he is on a roll. As he continues, more questions pop up in her mind, she looks to the others to see what their reactions are from this man she doesn't know at all.
Then he stares down at Shirin and her and all thoughts sort of disappear. As he finishes with his plan she responds, "Yes, sir." and passes by him to take the lead down back where they came and continuing down the main tunnel.
Just as she turns, she hears Gandolf's words. It makes her falter, but she continues. Strength in Kerwyn's, wait did he say Prince Adam? Who's Adam? and the desolate feeling of the death of the unicorn.
Kit-Tik nods in agreement to Dageron's orders, but makes the remark, "No need to shout, loud one. We are all right here and can hear you just fine. Thought this one agrees that we should share our findings swiftly and keep a move on."
The thri-kreen hands the mirror to Stasolya and walks alongside Dageron.
As if Dageron's words have triggered something inside Oten, he snaps to attention and his javelin slides out of its sheathe into his metal grip. He nods, confirming the orders, and takes up position next to Stasolya.
"He speaks the truth. The Childlike Empress can reform Hyboria out of naught but a grain of sand... in dark times such as these, the herald call to our nobler duty is a vital boon." Stasolya nods to Dageron, flashing him a smile of gratitude, and hurries to take her position in the center of the formation, accepting the mirror from Kit-Tik to show the mural and put the group's questions to Gandalf. Her own pain and sorrow she keeps hidden, but as she listens to Gandalf's words, silent tears escape from her eyes and course down her cheeks, barely visible at the edges of the pale blaze that streaks her forehead and nose.
"What of the Triforce of Courage?" she asks Gandalf, holding the mirror up to see, if she can, his clouded image.
(( Assuming everyone moves forward, but at minimum Dageron proceeds with those that do. ))
To Kit Tik, "I have been frustrated that all of the wrong gods have shown up to this grand war, and these final battles of our existence. I find that, perhaps, I have erred. Perhaps in many ways. There is a chance that my Gods may have been guiding me and others in ways I wasn't considering. A subtler strategy than I would suppose of them, but the strategy that works is always best." He reaches to his back and pulls forward the small Gremlin child. "I didn't even think twice to take this one in during these times. What a meaningless gesture, and completely outside of my nature. In this moment, I realized just how much so. I may be reaching for something not there, but your unique ability to communicate... can you speak with it? Tell me its name and purpose. Tell me of its kind and how it came to be in Skyloft. Tell me why I am supposed to not get it wet or why there is so little known about these creatures. I wonder if this one is meant to play a key role in what comes... or if I have needlessly brought him into dangers not present at Skyloft."
Right on cue, as Stasolya holds up the mirror asking about the Triforce a tiny ball of blue light zooms through the mirror and into the midst of the people here. The tiny fairy looking for their friend Shavaris will try to spot them and once they do they fly over immediately and give them a tiny hug as they land on their shoulder. "Sorry I'm late! I had a lot to do. Got the triforce, fled a tarrasque, got caught in an invisible force-field, took out a traitor, punched Vader, found a unicorn, and brought the triforce to Gandolf.... who gave it right back to me to bring here." They hold up the triforce. "I've been very busy. Is there trouble here? I'm really good help!" The look around to the other people and say "Hello other people! Oh! A centaur! You're very pretty!" they do a little bow to the centaur and they address everyone there, "Hello everyone. I am Delphinium, or Fireflight. Whichever you like. So, what do I need to do?"
Shirin listens to the voices for their echo back, hoping the spell he was maintaining would help to muffle the impulsive yelling and screaming of his companions. Shirin passes his eyes from the mural to Dageron as he makes his speech, and then looks to Shavaris as she takes leave. Hearing that Vader was dead both both exciting and relieving, though he wish he could have been the one to strike the final blow. He wondered what would become of the glowing red sword he wielded at he fall of the Ivory Tower.
Shirin keeps pace with Shavaris as she steps by him to return back to where they came from. He keeps his ears out for noise of any creatures that may have been lured by the eruption of emotion in the previous chamber.
She looks to the rest of the group, her eyes landing on Stasolya. "What do we do now?"
"Sunlight is not all there is to this world." The drow says calmly. "Breathe, Shavaris. How do you know the unicorn is dead?"
Shirin will take stride to the mural and make a closer inspection of it, hoping to make a conclusion of his own.
"Let's go recruit an Apex Predator to our side, so that it can **** up our enemies best laid plans."
Shavaris looks to the drow, "No sunlight? All plants will die. No plants? No food... " she trails off figuring she doesn't need to continue explaining.
